Not too long ago, We had dinner here and I was delighted by the ambiance and how intimate the place was. I had the kale caesar salad with smoked bacon, anchovy and brioche croutons to start. I also had some diver caught scallops with caramelized onions, sunchokes and bacon jam. For main, I had the BC wild salmon with side stripe prawn ravioli, tomato fondue and saffron consommé. For dessert, Lemon cream cheese mousse with orange hibiscus meringue and tropical fruits. Service was ok and pretty standard. Food wasn’t bad but nothing special nor anything remarkable to be honest. Food quality was definitely there but the flavours were bland and underwhelming. My salmon was cooked perfectly. However, it was under seasoned and didn’t pair well with the consommé. They just lack what the French may call a certain je né sais quoi! Probably not coming back anytime soon but I’m still open to giving them another try.

We came here after church on a Sunday afternoon. We were happy that the brunch menu runs until 2pm. The place only have one or two other tables at that time. West Restaurant is absolutely beautiful, classy and stylish. I really love their renovations and decorations and it kind of reminds me of the nicer places in Vegas. Warmed bread with olive oil and butter was offered. I tried their smoked salmon Benedict with salad on side. It was tasty and presentation was nice. Portion was just right for me but for sure it will not be enough for the big eaters paying for 20 $ for it(tax and tip incl). Raspberry pepper truffles for dessert included and those chocolate balls will probably cost you $ 2 + if you were to get them at Godiva. Service was good and server girl was very nice and attentive. I heard their dinner is quite expensive??? Paid street parking available.

Fancy Pants! I missed this restaurant the first time when I drove by, it looks super tiny from the outside. I was there for brunch so I can only comment on the brunch menu. Everything was reasonably prices, nothing too pricy. Brunch cocktails are reasonably priced too. If you want the experience of an upscale restaurant but don’t want to pay the big bucks, brunch is the way to go!

West has been on my list of places to dine in for several years, so when I saw it was participating in DineOut Vancouver this year I immediately made reservations for my wife and I. We went there on a Monday evening and the restaurant was pretty busy. The service was top notch. I dare say it was neck in neck with another top rated establishment — Le Crocodile — where we visit on special occasions. We started with cocktails that were superb and thus skipped wine this time. Nice bread and butter to kick things off. The food(fixed menu at $ 40) was mostly very good: — Amazing(and surprising) tomato and gin soup. — Flavorful Asian inspired duck confit salad, great crunchy texture as well(we asked and were told the chef is half Vietnamese) — for entrees we both had the flank steak which was properly done although it arrived to our table lukewarm. Accompanied with a flavorful homemade steak sauce, bits of vegetables and a very good potato croquette it was weak in terms of volume in the starch department. That’s where I regretted not ordering the house fries or something else. Fois gras was offered as an option at $ 16. — Desserts were phenomenal, wife particularly enjoyed the chocolate and sour cherry dessert, I preferred the almond cake. We’ll have to back sometime and eat a la carte.

Came during Dine Out Vancouver. The deal seemed quite good at $ 40 per person. Service was amazing. Probably the best I’ve had in many years, but I don’t usually go to fine dining. The appetizers were great. The carrot soup was thick and creamy. The duck salad was heavily asian-inspired, almost like a hong kong stirfry veggie with bits of roasted duck. Unfortunately, everything else was just mediocre. I’m giving it 4 stars for the ambience, the service, and the promise of good food, despite the disappointing results. The dishes seemed like a homage to homemade canadian dinners from decades past. The salmon was done well, but there weren’t any extraordinary flavors. The beef had hardly any flavor. I thought perhaps the dine out vancouver dishes had to be kept relatively simple for the price point. The ambience was amazing. There were so many details to every part of the furnishing, plates, etc.

First time there and first time part of Vancouver Dine Out festival. We were very looking forward to it. But it turns out to be a disappointment! I’m not sure if it’s because of Dine Out that’s why it’s not up to the quality or they were always like this. Duck salad was WAY over deep fried. I couldn’t taste duck at all. It was like eating jerky but with salt. My Salmon was a bit over cooked but better than Roasted Beef. The Roasted Beef Flatiron was bad! Meat was super dry and the sauce taste like… HP sauce. Shocking I know some people may think it’s Dine Out $ 40, what do you expect. But after you order drinks and it turns out approx. $ 60 each. Non of the dish was worth it. Even dessert was shocking news. Felt like the Almond Cake was a picked up from some random bakery shop. Well, I won’t be curious about what’s like eating at West anymore. It was totally waste of money! But people there were super friendly, good customer service though. So I’ll give them credit for that.

We ended up here because we didn’t have any other plans. It was the only restaurant with vacancy and I understand why now. We sat at the bar and waited for our table, it’s a very beautiful restaurant and bar but I wish they would have mentioned the menu was pre set, bc there was only one dish that I really wanted. The server was super nice, very accomadating but unfortunately it I disliked that I can’t order what I want. I liked the oysters and my drink though.

My husband and I came here for the set New Year’s Eve Menu. It was a five course meal with each course having 3 options to choose from which is fantastic most places offer only 2 options. It’s rare that my husband and I go out and enjoy every aspect of the experience. The waiters are so professional, the ambiance was comforting, and the food was comparable to Joel Robuchon in vegas which is a 3 Michelin star restaurant. To start my husband and I both picked the Foie gras which set the meal off right. It was served with brioche toast and had fresh cranberries! It was delicious. 2nd course was a purée cauliflower soup which was really smoothy. 3rd course my husband has lobster gnocchi and I had the butternut squash ravioli with mascarpone cheese… Drool drool! Both phenomenal! Main course Is definitely the highlight of the meal my husband had the smoked duck breast and I had the wagyu beef cheek. The wagyu beef was like butter, melt in your mouth literally. The duck breast was my favorite, all the flavors in this dish were so delicious, I actually made my husband switch dishes with me so I could finish the duck. The duck is by far the best main course I’ve ever had in a restaurant. For dessert my husband and I both had the chocolate mousse. It ended our meal perfectly! West is definitely back in the game and is by far one of the best places to eat in Vancouver. I will be telling all my friends to come here for a special date night or special event. EATHERE!!!

I searched what the best restaurant in Vancouver was and West came up right away. I took my girlfriend here for a nice dinner and we were both blown away by everything. Great drinks, amazing food and 5 star service. The portions were big. we did the 3 course meal and we’re both stuffed. I got duck Confit and she got seared tuna. You have to check this place out it is unreal!

Beautiful restaurant, questionable and over complicated flavors, top notch ingredients at barely reasonable prices. So the goal was to have a quick Saturday lunch. Upon walking into an empty venue already I felt dumb for having frantically made a reservation an hour prior. The place was spacious and nicely decorated despite the unimpressive exterior. As requested, they sat us at the back where the full booths were located, a great place for the kids and foodies alike as we had fun peeping into the very open kitchen through the low pass-through as the meals were being delicately plated. The food quality was excellent but the flavors were too complicated. The under dressed«biodynamic greens» salad, though colorful and I’m sure healthy, was made with yucky veggies like sliced raw asparagus, watercress, celery leaves, and flower pedals, none of which worked well together. Next time, I’ll remember to bring my own favorite salad dressing. The hand dived scallops were also confusing with the bacon jam/thick yellow mush/thick darker yellow mush on which each of the $ 7 per medallions sat, pretty though. The tasty and perfectly cooked lobster gnocchi unfortunately came blanketed with an orange foam that looked like giant spittlebug attack. Our mains finally arrived after 40 minutes of torture, definitely not a place you pop in and out during your lunch break. Wonderful salmon dish! I’ve never had raw salmon roe outside of a sushi restaurant, interesting. $ 9.50 for a ramekin of fries and $ 11.00 for a small pot of shrooms, boy, overpriced food does taste better, or does it? Then came the free cocoa truffles! Actually, I think my fries paid for the truffles. Service was friendly and attentive. Would I come back? Maybe, if I can’t get a seat at Farmer’s Apprentice just down the street.

I used to love this place. And then I went here for my second anniversary with my spouse. And it was one of the most awful experiences of my dining diary. We opted for the ‘land’ menu: an uninspired selection of discarded cuts of meat(neck and jowls), at exaggerated prices because of the benign ‘broth’ poured on as accessory. It was all right. Wine pairings? The bottom barrel of California. Service? You’d have a better dinner in Dante’s inferno: slackjawed hipster staff. I was SHOULDERCHARGED by a waiter as I tried to make my way to the toilet. .. $ 500 meal. And I was treated worse than a slug on the shoe of a retired golf player. I would never go back. Ever. I am so utterly disgusted.

Went here for lunch with my mom. I ordered the gnocchi which was delicious and cooked to perfection. I had tea and a selection of pastries for dessert which was also excellent. The prices were reasonable given the quality of the food. Service was great too. I dont have too much more to say as I’ve only been the once. I would recommend it for sure though.

Too expensive for an overall mediocre meal. The interior and styling suggests this place hasn’t been updated since the 90s and the quality of the food matches in blandness. The halibut was boring and the duck breast was served lukewarm with veggies that had seen better days. Not to mention the incredibly overpriced wine list was upsetting as was the cold, poorly seasoned«fresh baked» bread. I wanted to like this place but it was a huge letdown.

Social evening for work — which meant I was not footing the bill, and could therefore just enjoy the food without thinking of the cost(a $ 17 salad! A $ 36 main!). Kale salad with beets: so pretty. I could have skipped the kale and just eaten lots of beets and chèvre, which worked perfectly together. The Moroccan-inspired lamb neck was to die for: melt in your mouth tender. The chocolate-and-matcha trio for dessert was ok: the cakes were a bit too chilled(and hard) and the chocolate lost to the matcha. Others at my table chose more wisely and oohed and aahed over their desserts. The space is lovely, and the staff are very attentive; it feels like a very special restaurant, and that greatly adds to the experience.

Not as impressive as I expected it to be, though nothing was bad — 3.5 stars(7÷2÷2015). We did tasting menu of land and sea. Drink including cocktail and wine was good. The only negative was probably speed, service was relatively slow.

My husband and I decided on a getaway to Vancouver on New Years Eve and called a few nice restaurants in Vancouver and West was able to accommodate us with a late night dinner on NYE at $ 98/person for a five course pre-set menu. We arrived 20 minutes early, got a cab much easier than anticipated, and thought we would grab a drink at the bar. The place was packed when we arrived and there was not a chance we would get a bar seat. Just then, we were approached by a staff member asking us if he could bring us drinks while we waited for our table. I chose the lingerie and lace and my husband asked for a drink that was similar to an old fashion. We got our drinks within 10 minutes and they were excellent! The drink they brought my husband was one off of their«old menu» and he absolutely loved it. As for the food. We were given three options for each of the five courses. We each got a different item for each course so we could taste as many different dishes as we could. First course– foie gras parfait and the sockeye salmon. Second course– lobster bisque and the crispy fried sweet breads. Third course — biodynamic risotto and the diver scallop. Main course– beef strip loin and the duck breast. Dessert– roasted pear and the chocolate Millie– Feuille. All of the food was delicious but my favorites were the lobster bisque(my husband loved this one too), the foie gras and the duck breast which was amazing and the best dish of the night in my opinion. Even though it was New Year’s Eve and super busy, the restaurant was super inviting, had great service and was just a top notch experience. They even did a small countdown at midnight for the groups that were still there. Overall excellent food, service, drinks and atmosphere.

We were waiting for a table at Vij and the host recommended we check out West for a drink. Best. Recommendation. Ever. This place is 5 stars from the ambiance, drinks, food, and service. We planned on just having a drink but ended up ordering some oysters as well. Much to our surprise, they served us a chilled lobster soup, warm and toasty bread, and truffles. The drinks were meticulously prepared and delicious in their own way. The Pimm’s o’clock was refreshing, made with fresh mint, cucumber and lemon. The Beldi was much stronger and was intricately flavored — down to a coriander spray used on the glass. Wow. Go here now!

When we knew that we were returning to Vancouver, we knew that we wanted to have dinner here again. We were catching up with friends and our server did a great job of being unobtrusive(e.g., she didn’t interrupt our conversation to have us listen to a long recitation about where our food was grown or how it was raised) and not rushing us along. I started with the greens with shaved vegetables and the dressings were very good. My main course was the salmon with octopus and horseradish dill sauce which was excellent. The salmon had a nice crispy outside but wasn’t dry or over cooked. We finished with a delicious walnut tart that I think was a seasonal special.

If you only have one minute to decide wether to give West a try or not, I will save you a further 30seconds and tell you yes. Food: exquisitely presented and of satiating proportion(bigger than Hawksworth) Wine: hats off to the sommelier for splendid insights; Kudos to the boss for making everything less painful for the wallet and for providing a good selection of wine available by the glass and half bottles. Cocktails: very creative and adventurous and average between $ 11 – 15 Service: TOPS. Attentive but not intrusive, polite and classy. Atmosphere: Love the balance of space and intimacy. Price: expect first tier restaurant pricing and weighing all aspects, I deem worthy of a visit. I had my doubts about West, especially given there are a few comparable choices in downtown and in close proximity to après-dinner activities but I believe it’s spotlight is overshadowed and deserves a revisit. Cherrio!
