Our chef was a funny happy guy but not a very good teppan cook. He used too much oil and sauce which made the griddle black and he didn’t scrape it frequently between items so there was black residue on everything he cooked. I’m Japanese and somehow having a Filipino man cooking teppan just doesn’t cut it for me. His knife skills were sloppy too and I was quite disappointed by the overall entertainment factor(very little knife juggling) and lack of precision and attention to aesthetics.

I am not originally from Vancouver(and have had teppanyaki many times), so my experience of this teppanyaki dinner was a-ok(food and dining atmosphere). It was a Wednesday evening, and there were three small groups of people when I arrived. The dining area looked spacious, and the large squared grills are surrounded by seats. This place would look a lot fancier if they made renovation. I ordered chicken and steak combo with white rice(C$ 30). Spring sprouts, mushrooms, and onions were served. Chef was entertaining while grilling. Food was fresh but it got cold very quickly. It wouldn’t be a bad idea to place cooked meals on top of the grill to remain heated. My server was very easy-to-approach, she made me enjoy my dinner. The overall experience was not bad, but I probably won’t re-visit unless they make some upgrades.

My boyfriend and I went here for our 2nd year anniversary dinner on NYE and it was definitely a fun and delicious experience. I ordered the tiger prawns and steak and my boyfriend ordered the Filet Mignon. Both were cooked just right, with or without the sauce the meal was tasty. We were both entertained by the chef, as he was able to catch not only prawn tails in his hat, but we saw him catch a lobster tail shell and half of a lemon(separately)! The only thing I have with Teppanyaki is all the oil and butter they use, but I think that is pretty standard and really makes the food tasty: P I have been to Kobe’s downtown and now Osaka, both are comparative, but I believe the prices and parking at Osaka are a bit better. Although, Kobe has nicer décor(more stylish) and it’s a more spacey. I recommend going to Osaka Teppanyaki for a special entertaining meal.

Came here with my fiancée for the first time, I did not like the way the inside of the restaurant looked. It looked old and although it was not dirty it just seemed dirty because it was old. They need an upgrade ASAP! I am so picky with restaurant bathrooms. and same goes with this one. Besides that the man who was making our food was hilarious! and the food was good!

The service here is great, and the restaurant itself is pleasant enough, if a bit tired-looking. Unfortunately, the food just doesn’t cut it. The steak was decent, but the rest of the meal was disappointing. My salmon was literally swimming in burned teriaki sauce that drowned everything that came after. Vegetables were soggy and flavourless(although the onions were undercooked) and the prawns and scallops were under-seasoned, barely recognizable as Japanese food. Worst of all, the prawns/shrimps had not been properly cleaned and tasted of intestine. Nasty. Also, the food all came out flabby rather than seared, as though the grill hadn’t been properly heated. The chef was barely competent with the teppan theatrics and should have just avoided them since they detracted from the experience. All in all, not a great meal, not a great time, and not worth the money. Spend a bit more and go somewhere else for your teppan.

Ive been here a few times unfortunately my better half likes it and we go for him. However my last experience was one that i will never forget and will not be returning ever. The cook came out and started doing the usual theatrics with the cooking utensils and drops it on the floor which if uve been these floors are scary«very dirt» he then picks up his spatula and continue using it like nothing was wrong like it ain’t no problem to drop stuff on the floor. I politely asked him to stop using it and to change it for clean one. He looked at my and said really? I was like«wtf» yes really he walks over with his i cant believe ur making me do this additude and just rinses off in the sink instead of getting a new one. I do not agree with this it grossed me out. I dont go out to dinner and spend money to be treated like this!

Phenomenal place for dinner with flare. The food is delicious, the chefs are amazing. You get seated around a large grill with several other people. They have specific seating times, so make sure you arrive on time. Your orders are taken, drinks arrive, and the chef begins. Yes, the miso soup and the salads are pretty much from the bag, but it’s the fresh grilled food that you are here for. The chef begins to cook and entertain at the same time. With a quick flick of his wrist, he whips the tails off the shrimp. Then another flick and they fly into the air, and he catches them in his hat! Then he arranges a bunch of onion rings into a towering stack… and sets them on fire. While you begin to eat, he continues to cook the various meals, serving up fresh vegetables, seafood, chicken, and beef. We usually get the Seafood orders, with shrimp, scallops, and salmon. The vegetables include zuchinni, mushrooms, carrots, and onions. The salmon is so perfect and tender it’s flaking apart and melting in your mouth. The pile of bean sprouts always comes last. There’s usually some sort of terriyaki sauce, or perhaps just a soy sauce. We also order a side of fried rice, which is delicious. The chef also does a fun thing tossing the raw egg before cracking it over his tongs. Highly recommended – adults and kids(if they like the food) alike will enjoy the show!

Food here is very tasty and the portions are huge. We shared the chicken terriyaki and steak. I would recommend making reservations, if you have a small group you will be seated with others. Chef was funny and waitress was very nice. Only complaint is that tit was freezing out and I was sitting by the door and whenever customers left/entered I felt a cold breeze. However, I did notice the manager did his best to ensure the door was always shut.

The food is delicious! Best egg fried rice I have ever had! Super fun and entertaining environment. Great for a date, a staff party or a night out with the girls.

Worst service I’ve ever experienced; will never ever, ever be returning. We came to Osaka for my cousin’s birthday; he had made a reso the week prior for 6:30pm. The day of the birthday dinner our group arrived at about 6:20pm. Instead of being greeted in a friendly manor and wished a happy birthday my cousin was told«you’re early» in an annoyed fashion. Then we were told to sit in the waiting area as our table wasn’t ready and an itty bitty amount of Saki was offered to us for our trouble. We had debated leaving several times during the wait however my cousin was set on this place and since we’d already waited so long we figured we might as well stick it out. Well, an HOUR later our table was finally ready. By this point we were all unhappy and starving yet no apology, no nothing was extended to us. The service during our meal was slow and the food was blah. I had the beef tenderloin and it was just not good; the meat was chewy and flavorless. I was very unimpressed especially given the ridiculous prices. The food really was comparable to what you would get at a mall food court stir-fry place only you pay triple the price for it at Osaka and get to see a little more fire. Also, because me and another guest decided to share a meal we were charged a whopping $ 7.00 extra — yeah just to share. We asked why we were being charged that and the unfriendly waitress said it was because they have to give us extra veggies with our meal. Yeah right. I might have seen one extra bean sprout. Basically, if you decide to check out Osaka you should go expecting to pay only for the show and not for the food. I really wish I could give this place zero stars but since I am obligated to give out at least one I will give it to the cook because he was nice and kind of fun.

Dont let the negative reviews dissuade you. This place is awesome. IMO Teppanyaki is kind of like Mongolian Grill meets a Poker Table. Super fun atmosphere, excellent food. As previously stated, yes the salad is «from a bag» but so is the salad from 95% of other japanese places in Vancouver. Get over the salad, everything is was rad and delicious. The soup is a consumè with fried onions. Delicious and simple. The teppan shrimps are tasty as well. And the steak,(upgrade to tenderloin guys) was melt in your mouth. Super good accompanying sauces. Way too much sake, and it was all over before I knew it. Ronaldo was our chef(best chef in the house!). Do it guys.

Awful. I’m a long time enjoyer of teppanyaki, and while options are limited in Vancouver, I will definitely not be returning to Osaka Teppanyaki. We went on a slow night, and relatively early, so the place was not busy. I can take or leave the chef shtick and our guy was nice, so no comments about that part of the experience. But from right off it was clear the food wasn’t going to be great either. The shrimp was okay but way too sauced, so it arrived on our plates in a puddle of shoyu/teriyaki/ajinomoto. Veg was unevenly cut so the big chunks of mushroom and zucchini were undercooked and the small ones were squishy. Same for the steak. The chicken was even worse… no joke, how teriyaki chicken done on a teppan can be so poorly done(dry and swimming in sauce) I do not know. Accompanying veg fared similarly. We left much of our pricey dinner on our plates. I hate the attitude you get at Kobe, and it’s definitely more expensive than Osaka, but at least the food is edible. We’ll go to Kobe if we need a teppan fix, I guess =(

Meh. Everything was so salty. And why they busted out the frozen salmon when a fresh market is a few blocks away, I’ll never understand. The steak was decent though.

Seriously– AVOID! The quality of the food is poor. Salad is from a bag, the soup is just broth(miso soup would be an improvement). My fried veggies I could have done better at home. And, the waitress took my full plate away while I was in the bathroom. I guess because they were so busy, they were eager to turn over the table seating. The worst part was the people partying HARD in the bathrooms. Seriously people, this is a restaurant!

Finally a place in Vancouver that is good food and worth it’s money!!! It’s so hard to find decent eats being that I am not from here. Typically a bill for 3 of us to eat is around $ 90 and sadly no drinks are included :(and geeez the food is so mediocre… I would definitely go back because the service was good; the food was worth its price & beer served its purpose! Its also so conveniently located and boy do you leave feeling full!

Fun way to eat! Staff are nice. Food is ok. I think it is a bit overpriced for what you get. The restaurant itself felt a bit crammed and cluttered. At the end of the day, i would return.

LOve LOVe LOVE this place! and here are the reasons why this place is loved(probably the same reason why it can be hated too…) 1– the crowds that are drawn here are loud and rowdy and always having a freakin great time 2– they blast the music on the weekend late nights and its usually always good 3– all the chefs find some way to either make fun of you, embarrass you or entertain you so that you forgive all the coy remarks 4– the smell is AMAZING while theyre cooking…(it just REEKS on your clothes, hair and skin when you leave!!! aaaahhh!!) 5– amazing bartender(only 1 lady usually tending to the entire restaurant!?? i give her props!) theyre usually SUPERBUSY on weekends… so make sure you make reservations! if you happen to forget, they WILL turn you away! although. ive also seen them try real hard to accomodate walk-ins when they could. BEST items: Filet mignon … melted like butter in my mouth Salmon teriyaki … sauce is made right on the grill and then drizzled all over that salmon… heavenly. tigerprawns … the BEST ive ever tasted… juicy big pieces of tiger shrimp from thailand… yumyumyum fried rice … ok, i dont know what it is about their fried rice here… it is out of this world. egg, minced garlic, japanese mushroom, carrots & onion with rice.(when you order this, it comes in a bigger bowl than the steamed rice… but id advise you to get your OWN! cuz i always regret sharing mine!!) if only i could figure out how i can come here and not leave smelling like restaurant!!!
