Great place for bargain sushi in downtown Vancouver! The ‘happy’ menu with three items for $ 9⁄10 is good value as portion sizes are large. Similarly the bento boxes are great value, too. Everything tastes freshly prepared which is a nice change from the other cheap eats available on Granville Street. Not the place to find a delicately prepared piece of sashimi and the service can be oddly slow even though we rarely visit when it’s crowded.

Although I visited this place during peak lunch time(around 12pm), it was completely empty. I was a little skeptical about this place, but wanted to try their Sushi Special, so just went ahead and ordered. For Sushi Special, you get to choose 3 items out of 30 rolls/cones and a bowl of miso soup for $ 6.95. I chose a Spicy California Roll, Dynamite Roll and Chicken(Teriyaki) Roll. Miso soup tasted pretty good, and I was glad that it wasn’t salty or bland. Spicy California Roll was nothing but a California Roll(crab meat and cucumber inside) topped with spicy mayo. It doesn’t mean that it was missing on something. It still tasted pretty good. Dynamite Roll was rather below average because the size of prawn tempura was too small to taste anything. The batter was thicker than the prawn itself. Chicken Roll wasn’t good enough for my liking since chicken teriyaki was tough and very cold. I don’t know if I would come back but they indeed have the cheapest sushi for sure.

Sloppy rolls. Gave the guy two chances to make takoyaki. He undercooked it both times. Worst meal I’ve had on my vacation here so far. Quality and execution.

I’ve been in this place several times since last year and is getting worse, service has never been good but food is OK(quality /price), but this time the service was terrible. I went after lunch around 4 pm, there were just 3 or 4 tables taken, I asked for a puff was only me and the«waitress» told me — Sorry, the puffs are dirty and I don’t have time to clean them cause I’m here just by myself, please sit in another table– Additionally, she kept talking with the guy in the sushi bar all the time that I was there, I needed to wait for a long time just to have more tea. Gooosh… I decided to eat there just because I was starving. Guys you have good food but you should improve your service a lot.

If I could give this place a zero, I would. We ordered tea 8 times, and it took forever. I guess it’s a standard expectation that cheap sushi comes with crappy service but… this takes the cake. Two out of the three of us didn’t get food for ½ hour while everyone else was served first… and our one friend got what he didn’t order and when he told the waitress she said«oh, well the other waitress was wrong» and didn’t offer to replace the roll or take it off the bill. WATCHOUT!!! They add 15% TIPWITHOUTASKINGINTOTHEMACHINE!!!

Used to come here a lot due to price /value, but our last lunch was terrible. — My friend asked if the smoked salmon roll was on the happy combo menu — Server said yes; he ordered it — They brought the food after we waited for a half hour — It wasn’t the smoked salmon roll — The waitress said it just wasn’t on the Happy Combo menu, and that server was new — She didn’t offer to fix it or do anything different — When we paid, they still charged him for the other roll they brought out, even though he didn’t order or eat it — The server clicked through the tip prompts to give herself a 15% tip on each of our cards. I used to really like this place, but when the server chooses her own tip out of my money after bad service, that’s pretty dishonest.

This place is utter trash. I ordered the Salmon Bento Box off lazymeal. I get there and I’m waiting behind two women who are ordering food to go. I don’t know if it was them or the woman at the register but something between the three of them was taking longer than it should to finalize an order. I’m waiting there and I see my food sitting on the counter but not waiting to be an impatient customer I waited my turn. After she finished up with those two women, she doesn’t even look at me for another minute or two. When she finally acknowledges me I tell her that I’m picking up an order. She was confused. Another woman waiting tables pointed at the plastic bag on the counter and the woman at the register says, «That’ll be 12.55» I’m like, no it won’t because I already paid and it says PAID on the receipt that’s taped to the bag. So I get back home and the mess continues. Something is wrong with the soy sauce. There was a weird sweet aftertaste but not in a good way. Soy sauce is supposed to be salty. The salmon itself tasted dry and brittle, almost like I was chewing on wood shavings. So not only was the service terrible, the food was terrible. I can tolerate terrible service if the food is good but it’s not.

Prices are good, food is passable. I’m used to living somewhere that has no cheap sushi but the sushi is all pretty good. In Vancouver, there’s plenty that’s cheap but I’m finding that it’s not always a good idea. The bento is fine, some nice variety of tastes, but the raw fish items are just a little lacking in freshness, so I’d stay away from them.

Cheap combo boxes. Good value. Never dined in always take out. The chicken quality is alright. You get what you pay for — expected. This remains my go to for a fast fix. Make sure you’re hungry! You get a lot of food for $ 7.50

Awful service with a waitress that didn’t know her menu. We ordered the dine for two and we didn’t get our dumplings, our ice cream, and when we asked for chicken teriyaki instead of udon, the waitress didn’t change the order for us even though she said it was okay. When we made a fuss they still made us pay full price and the waitress put on this hella fake oblivious game face. Was super unhappy with the service and the food was only mediocre at best for the price. In the 15 years I’ve lived here, I have never had a worse dining experience in Vancouver.

I’ve eaten here a few times. I don’t order anything complicated. Just the basic avocado and cucumber roll. It came out in a decent manner, prices were fair. Nothing outside the box but it served it’s purpose for the moment.

Bang for the buck is ok. BC roll to avoid, they use only skin, no flesh. Fish freshness is ok. There are better cheap sushi places nearby

Great value for the good food, easy location and very organized place. I had Katsu udon and it was really tasty. The meat was good. The only problem is that it comes in a very deep bowl full of rice on the bottom but with no enough sauce for the rice when the meat is all gone. I sadly ended up just eating half of the bowl. But still worth the price of $ 7.95. They also have good sushi special for 6.95(3 rolls of your choice and Miso soup). It is pretty close to Yamato location, which offers sushi special for $ 6.25. Both sushi are good with the difference that Umeda does not get so crowded as Yamato.

It must be something about this end of Granville that sucks. Umeda is an unassuming sushi place next to many other unassuming shops. Customer service is meh at best. I’ve been here over 4x and I’ve only had one decent server. The others just don’t give a shit. They’re there to make their minimum wages. Their food is adequate at best. In fact, I can’t remember any dish that stood out as excellent. I do remember ordering a beef teriyaki roll that was so sweet I couldn’t finish it. I’ve given this place enough tries and chances. I won’t return.

The lunch special was great value for $ 9.99 but I’m taking off two stars because this Beatle the length of a twoonie decided to crawl down the booth and near our heads. I got grossed out and we couldn’t finish our meal since we saw the bug crawl into a cup and out… Not coming back.

my new favourite take-out place. you even get 10% off your take-out orders! for exactly $ 6.60, you get a choice of three rolls(and there’s a pretty good variety included — yam tempura rolls, negitoro rolls, salmon cones, etc.) and miso soup. the sushi is surprisingly fresh and of decent quality. their bento boxes are also a great deal, and huge! i can eat a lot but couldn’t finish all the tempura it came with.

This my my local go-to sushi bar for cheap food. Their special pricing is unreal! Your choice of 3 out of 30 rolls for $ 7! And you get a further 10% off if you do to-go! They have a nice little place which is clean and tasteful. The chefs at the open sushi bar are always friendly and greet people as they come in. Seating is primarily in large(6 person) booths, but there are a few smaller tables. The sushi cuts are nothing particularly special compared to other places around Vancouver but the price is what really makes this place. The spicy tuna is good, but has sauce on top which not everyone likes. I also recommend trying the yam tempura rolls, they’re very fresh and delicious. Overall my favourite place to get cheap sushi in Vancouver and for that reason 5 *!

You guys don’t know how good you’ve got su-sh-«it»! $ 6.95 sushi special that includes THREE rolls from a huge list to select from and miso soup. It’s tasty, fresh, and served with REAL ginger not that colored red crap. Service is standard but their price vs. quality ratio is what kept me coming back. For LA standards, this is really GOOD sushi that would also cost me at least $ 20 for something similar. For Vancouver standards it’s good, but c’mon, a fulfilling meal for $ 6.95!!! I’m jelly.

$ 6.95 for 3 rolls(usually corresponding to 24 pieces) and miso soup? Count me in! You can choose between 30 or so options and indulge yourself in cheap, delicious sushi goodness. I’ve never eaten in, but they have a clean, well-maintained interior with what appears to be ample seating space. We usually just call them ahead of time and grab our food as takeout, and they’re good about taking orders on the phone(they’ve never messed up). I’m especially a fan of their spicy tuna, chicken teriyaki, and yam tempura rolls: that’s my standard combo for the $ 6.95 deal! If you’re looking for a tempura roll, I would definitely recommend the yam tempura over the salmon one; the crunch ratio(yes, I will use that phrase) is more even for the yam tempura rolls.
