I have ordered take out a handful of times for one item: Captain Crunch Roll(flash fried California roll) I’ll admit, after ordering my first Captain Crunch roll for take out, I thought the dine-in experience would be worth it because of how munch I liked the roll, but dining in was a bit of a disappointment. The atmosphere felt very club-after-last-call when the lights come on. The drinks are cleverly named, but the taste didn’t have me ordering another round or even finishing my first(if you like the taste of rust, order the Vampire’s Kiss). Don’t get me wrong though, I’ll still be ordering the Captain Crunch roll for take out, but I won’t be dining in again. If you’re not one for traditional sushi, give the Captain Crunch roll a try.

Though I was only here for drinks, have to say the place was pretty funky, a club-like feel to it and the servers were pretty attentive to our group meeting. It’s actually called just Zero, so new ownership. We were there for an hour, and no pressure from them, about half full on a workday 3pm, not bad. Did see a few tables order ramen, in huge white bowls, so will have to report on that. That would be a welcome addition here on Granville instead of going all the way to denman/robson for ramen lol.

I came here with 14 friends for my bday. The food is reasonable for downtown. They have Sapporo on Tap for about $ 14 a pitcher and 3 shots for $ 10.99 is not that bad. The service wasn’t that bad. I was wary of booking my party here because of the comments on Unilocal. But it was down town, on Granville and could accommodate a large group of people with cheap booze. Their 151 roll was alcoholic as it really was infused with 151. You might leave hungry for the price, but it’s not unreasonable compared to all the other non all you can eat sushi places down town. Booze wise though, you can’t really compare. This place is pretty cheap.

It was my partner’s birthday and we were starving and his friend says we should check out Point Zero. I dumbly thought it was going to be bad pub food. I was pleasantly surprised when he said it would be Japanese food. So we come in and we find ourselves chatting under purple light, candlelight and loud music, we were really digging the atmosphere. It definitely wasn’t your typical sushi place, not a California roll in sight. They had a massive list of specialty rolls, all 7⁄8 dollars, would have liked some cheaper options. We ordered a bunch and had a bit of everything. It would have been nice if there was some kind of sample platter, we missed it, maybe? I don’t know how you could complain about the service, our sever was so friendly and quick, when we were missing one of our shots we didn’t even have to say anything before he went back to fetch it. Red dragon shots = yummy. I’m not sure what all the rolls were since we only ordered two rolls ourselves and the rest of our party ordered the rest. We got the 69 roll that was crazy delicious, I usually don’t like a lot of sauce on my rolls, but they made it work here. The Bob Marley roll was disappointing, it was small and for some reason the rice tasted refrigerated where in all the other rolls it was perfect. On the other end of the table clearly they did a better job of ordering, there was a deep fried salmon/cream cheese/jalapeño roll and it was by far the best. Another mistake we made was ordering the tempura, so overpriced for the small 5⁄6 pieces that it was and the same quality as any other place. A bunch of people ordered udon bowls that were smaller than our friend had made them out to be. Overall, it was a good experience and there were some things we’d love to go back for. It was nice to get a feel for the place, what’s good and what’s not. The great staff, the atmosphere and a few great rolls will bring us back.

1 star, just because I can’t do less! My main complaint is about the owner. What a rude guy. He is simply a businessman(not a good one obviously) who cares about the money, not about the customers. I won’t talk about the quality of the food. It simply was not good.

I don’t really understand the bad reviews for this place, I have been here numerous times with my boyfriend and friends and everyone has really enjoyed this place. I absolutely love their extensive menu of creative rolls, and most of the ones we tried are so delicious and fresh. I love sushi and have been to many sushi places and this has to be one of my favourite place. However, I have noticed that their service gets a little sloppy when it gets busy. But overall, I definitely recommend this place.

Stopped in to Point Zero for a Saturday night date, it was 6:30 and the place was empty! It is a huuuge restaurant on the Granville strip with like 30 empty tables, they are obv doing something wrong? The common complaint of the menu being too long with not enough variation is SO true! It was so frustrating to read through the novel of a menu of suspiciously similar rolls trying to find a possible jem, I ended up settling for something basic. They have a long list of cocktails which I did not order because some ass stole my wallet including my license to drink in public! I look forward to trying some of the space age looking drinks on my next visit. We started with sushi, the man got the Blue Crush roll(I think that’s what it was) and I got the Vegetarian roll. Both were good but mine was a bit bland and missing a couple of the ingredients. We also got don-buri rice bowls, mine was tonkastu tofu with egg and it was quite good although the«miso dressing» they put on the rice is a touch sweet for dinner time but I really liked the tofu!

Had the tigers eye and it was delish. However two things rubbed me the wrong way: 1. No refills on a $ 3 diet coke 2. Terrible service. We were ignored. There were only about three tables being served during our stay.

A sushi restaurant with a casual sports atmosphere with great weekly specials — good for groups of friends. Every Thursday, they have a special promotion for $ 25 for two — changes weekly. We had a salad, miso soup, chicken curry with rice, rainbow roll(this was good!) and glass of sangria each! Definitely our bang for our buck, but food and service was meh. My friend who doesn’t go out much, thought it was great value and decent though. — Pros: cool selection of rolls, food presentation, price point and portions — Cons: quality, concept, service — Sangria: they boast that it’s pretty good … can’t support that claim. I recommend La Bodega for best Sangria in the city. — Mixed concept: sushi bar that serves curry, big screens for sports, bar + sushi bar. Totally agree with Kat S. review on here. Everything in one doesn’t work!

Went into this place on a Monday night to use my Living Social coupon($ 15 for $ 30 worth of food & drink). Despite there being 2 servers in plain sight, we had to wait over 5 minutes to even be acknowledged, let alone seated. Once seated, we immediately informed them we had the Living Social coupon and ordered the beer special(Granville Island picther for $ 9.95). The server hesitantly informed us that she may not be allowed to give us the beer special with the coupon. This was not stated anywhere on our Living Social coupon and it was clearly stated $ 30 for food ANDDRINK. We decided to overlook that and asked her if it was ok if we ordered over $ 30 in VERY overpriced sushi and put the beer on a separate tab to be paid in cash. She responded with«That should be fine.» We ordered 3 rolls, ebi mayo, and appies. The sushi was good but not worth the price. As we were nearing the end of our meal, the server came over to notify us they would be charging us the full $ 18.95 for the pitcher. We told her she should have told us this before ordering as we over-ordered on the food to reach the $ 30 coupon just to put the beer on a separate tab. The manager(and possibly owner) came over, started yelling, and created a huge scene in his restaurant saying he has had nothing but troubles from these coupons and isn’t making any money. I’m sorry but that is not MY problem. The point of these coupons is to provide customers with a great experience without making much money in order to generate REPEAT business. We told him to calm down, paid our bill but will never be going back. Good luck selling $ 10 rolls in Vancouver.

I’m really not sure where to go with this review, so I’m going to break it up into components. Food: Meh. Tuna gomae = blech. I was starving, so ate it, but the tuna was slightly fishy and the gomae was practically dry and the sauce was not good. I appreciate that they were trying to go for the black sesame sauce, but it wasn’t working. If you’ve had the black sesame gomae at Guu, this is crap in comparison. And for more money. I was going to order some rolls because they sounded interesting, and I was impressed when my friends’ rolls came out and they had wild salmon on them. But the rolls looked sloppy and didn’t hold together, and based on the slightly fishy taste from my tuna I decided against it. I got some veg yaki udon instead, which was okay. It’s fried udon with vegetables and sauce. Kinda hard to eff up. I had a piece of veg tempura from a friend and the batter was actually excellent. Nice and light. The edamame was lacking salt. There was none on there and I’m not a huge salt fan so when I need salt, there’s an issue. They remedied the situation when we requested the salt. The menu is too large. They need to pick a couple things and do them well instead of trying to do everything and doing them half-assed. Atmosphere: Bizarre. Is it a lounge? Is it a sushi bar? Is it a club? Is it a sports bar? I’m so confused. Service: Actually quite good and accommodating. There weren’t many people in the place, so I would certainly hope they could take care of us. The manager was happy to have us there and offered to adjust the volume of the hockey game if we liked. We were there for the giant tvs to watch hockey. It was really the only draw for us. Price: On the high side for what you are getting. If they want to go the sports bar route(why else would they have so many giant tvs?) they need to come down on the beer prices. Food prices are fairly high for the quality. I’d be willing to come back if my wallet wasn’t left so light at the end of my meal. Overall, I had a good time because I was with a good group of people and we were watching the hockey game. Would I come here for the food again? No. Would I come to watch the game? Maybe. But I probably won’t be drinking much.

In the vein of non-authentic sports-bar-inspired sushi-club/restaurants comes Point Zero, and it seems to want to play off of the success of The Eatery in Kits. 1 — The menu is laughably enormous, and even though I ordered the rolls other Unilocalers recommended, they really were sub-standard. Sloppy rolls, and(as others have noted) no real green tea, which is weird. 2 — They need to stay on top of the drinks, and know their stuff. I asked for a Manhattan and got a blank stare, and all our table agreed that we wouldn’t order a second round after our first drinks as the cocktails that arrived were only okay. 3 — The service was bad. Our waitress was grumpy and had attitude. In fairness, the owner did come by our table to check in, and he seemed really nice. It might’ve been better if he was our waiter. This is a work-in-progress, and it could be alright if they pull it together I suppose — the combo of mediocre sushi, bad service, and atmosphere means I won’t be going back.

My friend and I went here for a quick bite and some drinks after attending the Expo 86 Quarter Century Lookback Party at Science World. After wandering down Granville Street we came upon this place. The fact that it was so empty on a Friday night should have been a huge red flag. We were seated quickly. We ordered the salt and pepper dry ribs, a Sangria Blanca, and a vodka and ginger ale. After taking our order, our server, Julia, disappeared. We were later told that she was settling the bills with other customers. 15 minutes passed, no drinks. We flagged down the hostess who said that our server was assisting other customers. Another staff member passed by — Ken, I believe he was a manager — and we asked for water which we got right away. A few more minutes passed, our server returned with food we hadn’t ordered. We told her we ordered the dry ribs which was the other order she had on her tray. After she left, another server stopped by with an order of sushi that wasn’t ours. At this point, we still didn’t have our drinks. I decided to go to the washroom to wash my hands; there was no soap in the women’s washroom or the handicap washroom. After I returned to our table, our drinks arrived. I received a rum and ginger ale; I didn’t complain given how long it took for our drinks to arrive in the first place. The dry ribs were lukewarm and fatty; I wouldn’t recommend them to anyone. The manager, Ken, stopped by and asked how we were doing. My friend complained about the ribs being cold and he offered to reheat them. We declined; I don’t think it would have made them any better. I mentioned that there was no soap in the women’s washroom. Instead of saying that he would have it looked at right away, which is what I expected, he said those issues are handled by the janitorial staff and that he would let them know. At the end of our meal, the bill came a lot faster than anything else we had asked for that evening. The manager came by again and said that the dry ribs were on him next time. While I appreciate his offer, I won’t be coming back. Rating: 1.5 star –Service was terrible. Our server was slow and we were almost given the wrong food on 2 occasions. I would have given it 1 star, but added .5 star for the manager trying to make it better. –No soap in the washroom and no definite promise that it would be taken care of right away. –Food was bad. Normally I would go back and try something else, but given the bad service and the other bad reviews here, it’s not worth a 2nd attempt.

Did you just write on my arm? We were confused from the very beginning. With three other guests we had reservations at Point Zero lounge on a Friday. The first bout of confusion came from our glasses: our waiter only brought three instead of four, then there was a lipstick stain on one of them, gross. Second, the menu is overwhelming, we sat there for a while looking at the menu and tried to decifer the differences between rolls. FYI the rolls are not that different from one another. Third, the concept for the restaurant is quite confusing. It replaced space lounge, so is it suppose to be a space themed restaurant? The tacky planet lights and large neon light panels are still in tact, does not have a «sushi restaurant» feel at all. Don’t have that many complaints about the actual food. It was good, but could have got better sushi somewhere else for the same price. We had a groupn as well and ordered the penthouse plate, pretty good. The most bizarre part of the night was at the end when the waitress, who actually fit in with the ambiance since she was spacey herself, dropped off the bill and as she was walking away she brushed against my brother and drew a huge line up his arm with a pen. She looked and walked away. I’ll have to admit we all were really amused because this place was just so odd in every aspect. They are not ironing out kinks, they are just one big kink.

I came here after passing by it a few times on Granville street, and curiousity finally got the better of me. I mean, how can you pass up a sushi dining experience with the feel of a lounge and massive screens showing the hockey game, and a ceiling lightining system that looks like planets in space? It’s so crazy trippy that I just had to go to say I’ve been. Husband and I showed up on a Thursday night and while the street was jumping, Point Zero was mellow with only about 3 other tables in use. The place is so large and can hold a ton of customers, so it felt a little strange to be in such a large space. The servers were nice though, and weren’t at your table every two minutes — they knew to give you a few minutes to go through their massive menu. PZ has the largest assortment of specialty rolls I’ve ever seen. I couldn’t believe all the different combinations they could come up with, it was impressive and overwhelming at the same time. We had a hard time picking out three rolls out of over 30, but we finally settled on the volcano roll, the x-roll, and the rock’n roll. The x-roll won hands down. It’s a spicy deliciousness of crab, eel, salmon and tuna, and it is fierce. The husband was sweating buckets and going through jugs of water, but it was the happy kind of spicy where you just keep eating it despite the tears coming out of your eyes. Endearing. The other rolls were just okay. The volcano roll was a good portion size since it was heaped with fake crab meat. The rock’n roll was nothing spectacular, but it was a great price for a crab & scallop roll. Overall the place is decent. It’s décor is pretty bizarre, like it’s not quite made for a Japanese restaurant vibe, but it’s food is somewhat okay priced. I think they need to bring their menu in a bit, I spent over half an hour picking out the rolls in my super hungry state. I may go back to try some of their drinks(that menu was pretty extensive as well), but I’ll be sure to stop by when I’m not starving so I can take a better look at the menu!

Pretty much all I have to say is… get the REDNINJAROLL. Warning: you must like spicy. on a scale of 0 – 10 of spicyness…(10 being flaming-hot-you-need-ice-to-continue-breathing), I give it a 7.5÷10. Very deliciously spicay. This is not your regular spicy tuna roll. On top, they add a slice of avocado, a lightly and tenderly seared slice salmon with a crunchy fried tempura layer and the perfect amount of spicy mayo. If that doesn’t sound good, I don’t know what does. The combination of raw salmon and the lightly seared salmon is quite tasty as I’ve never tried that combo before. The waitress said this was her favorite roll and after my first bite, I could definitely understand why. They had a very large selection of rolls… it was almost overwhelming trying to choose which rolls to order. I noticed a lot of their rolls and dishes had asparagus in it. I personally am not a huge fan of asparagus so I wasn’t thrilled but honestly, is it just me or is asparagus in sushi weird? +_+ I’m sure you could request for it to be substituted but I was lazy. The venue is HUGE and almost has a *club* feel to it. There was a live DJ that night but the place was virtually empty when my friends and I were there on a Friday night. I don’t have many good things to say about this place but not many bad things either… I loved my red ninja roll but probably wouldn’t come back here without a Groupon.

I bought a Groupon here and started to regret my purchase after reading the other Unilocal reviews. However, I thought my night ended here on a good note. Upon entering the restaurant/lounge, it was virtually emptying besides from one other couple and the live DJ that plays on Friday and Saturday nights. We started with a pitcher of Mango Sangria($ 17). The waitress served it to us, but she was pretty sloppy scooping out the fruits into the glasses, although I don’t know if my dexterity is any better. haha. She was a nice waitress though. We ordered 3 rolls, gyozas, beef Yaki udon, and skewers of asparagus wrapped in bacon. I’ll talk about my favourites: 1) Miss Piggy Roll — I thoroughly enjoyed the bacon in my sushi. What a wonderful combination of savoury goodness with the fresh addition of scallops and asparagus. 2) Beef Yaki Udon — The noodles were chewy and nicely flavored with plenty of beef and veggies on top. Overall, I had a good time with my friends, partly due to the sangria, lack of crowds, decent food, quieter music(once the techno-playing DJ left), and my Groupon, which made this dinner much cheaper. I might come back if I’m downtown and yearning for sushi and an empty setting.

I’m a little surprised by the poor reviews posted so far, but given how short they are, I’m glad I ignored them before coming here. I would’ve rated 3.5 stars if I could, but it wasn’t quite 4 stars… yet(?) First of all, the place is huge compared to most other Granville Street restaurants — this was the old Space Lounge across from Wings — Point Zero has been open now for about three months so they’re still ironing out a few kinks. We arrived just after they opened at 4:30pm and there were just a few occupied tables. There was no one at the door so we waited for a couple of minutes before we were seated. While we waited, I noticed what looked like a DJ table(empty at that time though) so it’s probably pretty lively in there later. There are also several large screens to watch the game on there. It would be cool if they had some kind of specials to go with game nights. :) My first impression of the menu is that Point Zero is Downtown’s version of The Eatery. The rolls are imaginative and artistic and slightly overpriced — I would still come back anytime for something that is not your standard sushi fare. There are plenty of really good, really cheap places nearby if you just want to eat on the cheap, but not many places you can be social and enjoy trying a bunch of new tasty roll creations. Point Zero would be a great place for that. It was just two of us this visit and we opted for the Titanic platter and a tuna tataki roll. The platter had 4 fancy rolls and five pieces of nigiri sushi(see photo) for just under $ 30. Not a bad deal. When I asked for tea, the waitress asked me what kind. I thought it was a little odd but she clarified by saying they don’t offer ‘complimentary green tea’ but they do have tea. I ordered green tea and my friend had a cranberry juice. I was pretty surprised to get a Starbucks green tea bag on the side of a cup of hot water. Not my ‘cup of tea’, shall we say. I’d make sure not to order this again at $ 3 — especially with no pot. She also asked if we wanted miso soup — I thought, why not? Well, for $ 2.50 — that’s why not! I think miso soup should be super cheap($ 1 or free) if you order a certain amount of food. In total, our bill was $ 55 without any alcohol. Yep, pretty pricey! The food was really good — not ‘authentic’, but definitely creative. I will go back to try a few more items and maybe some cocktails before I completely make up my mind about this place. If the restaurant owners read these reviews, I would strongly suggest bringing in the green tea that everyone loves and stay away from tea bags. I don’t even mind paying for a POT of green tea, just no bag. Oh, and the servers really need to step up their game. Service was ridiculously slow for the number of people in the restaurant. Maybe get rid of the high heels if that will make them move faster. I also looked for some take out menus as I was leaving, but didn’t see any. I’ll update this after I go back — maybe with a group of girls so we can try a lot of different items!

Went in on a(thought-it-would-be) quiet Tuesday night. Took us 5 mins to get seated, and nobody approached us for ANOTHER5 minutes, so we put our coats on and left. Nobody noticed that either. =( I am a bit forgiving because there was a pretty massive group there… but still… Too bad, because from the other reviews, it looks promising. What am I going to do with my groupon now???
