I would have never expected to be eating at a meat shop and being able to taste such an amazing pulled pork sandwich. It was flavourful and extremely moist. However the sandwich didn’t get messy and the bread with nicely toasted. I personally don’t like bread toasted because I find it hard and cuts my mouth but it was not the case with this sandwich. The boys were extremely friendly, with great customer service and the cook was quite generous with the portion. Definitely a place to try one of the best pulled pork sandwiches Vancouver has to offer !

We moved into the neighbourhood last month and my husband had heard such great things about this place. We’ve probably been in 5 or 6 times now and yesterday they definitely lost me as a customer. I’m a vegetarian(don’t shoot) but I often swing by to grab some meat for my husband and son. Yesterday I tell the guy behind the counter I’m looking for a small piece of meat, anything really, for my husband for dinner. I said«nothing too big or expensive» and he grabs and rings up a $ 23 prime rib steak. Really? I was so shocked when I saw the total on the debit machine. I should have put my foot down and said no way. I was caught off guard and stupidly paid for the biggest most enormous steak. That was both huge and expensive. Being someone who knows next to nothing about meat I expect to be helped in places like this, not taken advantage of. Way to LISTEN to your customers needs guys. I’m not going back.

I can only speak about the sandwich … divine! I opted for the Cubano and it was one of the best sandwiches I’ve had in awhile, and I love a good sandwich! A healthy portion of roast pork, pork rillette, swiss cheese and pickled mustard seed in a Portuguese style bun. Wonderful combination of flavours and texture. I was full with just a half and the other half made for a great snack later. I’ll be making another trip west to try some of their other offerings!

I wish I had a butcher shop like Pete’s in my hometown. On a visit to Vancouver, my whole family bought meat to cook dinner and sandwiches at Pete’s. They were friendly and served up really high quality stuff. The fellow making our sandwiches took his time and did it right. They were delicious! Please go here.

I was really excited when Pete’s opened but unfortunately it only took a couple visits to realize they are not actually a specialty meat market but just another place to buy meat. We purchase fresh meat multiple times a week from specialty meat markets and having a shop two blocks from the house would save the trip to 4th ave especially during the construction. I went in on the Canada day long weekend and bought 5 racks of ribs. I asked the gentleman behind the counter if the membrane was removed to which he said yes, we always remove it. Those 5 racks went on my smoker for 3 hours to then be basted with homemade bbq sauce. When they came off I noticed the ribs had curled. The membrane in fact was not removed and was pulling apart on the back. This essentially ruined the ribs. No smoke flavor was absorbed due to the membrane and it makes a real mess of the ribs. I served them to my guests but was embarrassed. The next day I needed a 10 pound pork rump also for the smoker. I was going to go back to Market meats but thought I would give Pete’s a chance to make up for it. I went in, explained the situation to Pete himself and can’t honestly say I felt any appreciation for the money and more importantly the time wasted on those ribs. I spent another $ 50 with them on the pork and as compensation for $ 60, a ruined meal and three hours wasted on the ribs he gave me $ 5 off the pork roast. I gave them a chance due to their location but its back to Jackson’s and Market meats for me. Both of these place know meat and are worthy of the specialty meat market title. Sorry Pete, I tried but won’t be back

So, here’s the thing with Pete and his fantastic butcher shop, first of all, they put market, Jacksons, broadway meats, whole foods and hills to shame. Pete is knowledgeable as heck and has a fantastic butchery skill set. His cuts of meat are not only of the highest quality, but he does the cutting and butchery in house, he does old school classic meats as well as unbelievable new products like his Turducken sausage. You want a 45 day dry aged sexy piece of beef? Go to Pete, and if you don’t get one of his freshly made, to die for short rib sandwiches with a side of pepperoni, you must be crazy. Pete’s, its the only game in town for meats.

When the store opened I was SO excited to have a butcher shop near my house. Went a few times then asked out of curiosity how much butchering they actually do there in the shop. Answer: not much to none. So how is that a butcher shop? Doesn’t take much skill to open a cardboard box from Sysco of pre-packaged meat and put it on a tray… So I took my business elsewhere that actually cares about what they claim to be doing. Their music was always so loud too. Good bacon though! Too bad it’s not made in-house.

I always drive by Pete’s on the way to my parents. It’s a small little store that’s run by three guys — Pete(who I didn’t meet) and his two assistants, Alex and Matt? I think. Both were friendly and helpful, with a good knowledge on their products, including advising on whether their ground bison would be good for bolognese(which I just randomly spotted when I was there). The lighting is quite synthetic, almost industrial, and the store reminds me of a diner with the vinyl in the retail space, but this is useful to make sure things are clean. The selection is fairly limited and pretty pricy(bison $ 11/lb, panetta $ 4.79/100g), but the meat is high quality and very tasty(as my sauce ended up being). A promising store! I think I’ll come here more often. It currently ranks somewhere between Jackson’s Meats and Honest Butcher for me, but closer to Jackson’s(which I like most).

Awesome place! The guys who work here are great! They are a very helpful staff who and always willing to help or provide tips with recipe’s. I come here often due to its close proximity to my house and Pete’s Meat’s quality. The only thing that makes it not a 5-star review is they don’t have too much selection, although they are always happy to order anything for you. Also, special orders or unusual cuts are no problem here. Some friends and I are even doing a butchering class here next week! Good stuff!

My partner and I went to this deli because he had a coupon for $ 20 that he got for $ 10. After a 15 minute walk for us to get there, we looked at the great selection of meats and then at the sliced deli section. The deli section was only about 10 different meats, but with interesting combinations. Now I’m not a deli expert, so many of the choices are most likely everyday deli selections. The prices seemed quite high which is not uncommon for smaller businesses. The meat that we selected, schinkenspeck(German style prosciutto) and some Montréal smoked meat were delicious and made great sandwiches, though we will not get more until we get another coupon. And as always, Have Fun!!!

My date and I stumbled upon this place in passing while killing time before dinner. I will admit that I wasn’t paying too much attention to the meat selection(no pun intended). I was charmed by the two men working the counter. They were super friendly, humorous and actually appreciated my sense of retail humour. It was nice to be around a shop with people whom actually somewhat like what they’re doing. I didn’t pay attention to the meat selection ’cause I was too busy paying attention to the Man Cupcakes that I’ve heard so much about. These cupcakes have been on my wish list for a while now, order direct from the site. I was really surprised that they carried the brand of cupcakes in Pete’s Meats. They had the mini versions, therefore, I didn’t have to commit either financially or calorie wise… perfect for sampling. My date bought salsa, however, we’re still waiting on the verdict on that one.

They’ve got great meat, but their stuff is more expensive than nearby Jackson’s. We’ve been in a few times to grab things for dinner, but it’s not my go-to butcher because of the prices. However, these guys have great customer service. When my boyfriend asked about getting blood to make duck soup(it’s a Polish thing — a DELICIOUS Polish thing), they said they’d have no trouble bringing it in for him, and they’re always happy to recommend a cut of meat for you.

Pete’s Meat is a lovely little local shop on the Arbutus Walk that I have frequented two times so far and have been over the moon with happiness at the quality and cost of their products. I picked up some chicken, pork and deli meat here yesterday and a couple of rib eye steaks a few weeks ago. The price I paid for the chicken breasts was a million times cheaper than what I would get at an organic grocer or the butchers in Kitsilano and the quality was amazing! The breasts were huge and juicy. I even had leftovers for lunch the next day. The rib eyes were also amazing. I cooked both steaks rare with a bit of olive oil and salt. Even though the cuts were huge my boyfriend and I still managed to gobble both of our steaks down and I found myself in a happy meat coma afterwards. They also carry a wide selection of sauces, rubs, and vinegars which I can’t wait to try and are expanding into sandwiches. It’s a great little place and I really hope it picks up soon as I will definitely be buying all my future meats from this store.

I bought a coupon for Pete’s Deli from Living Social since it was down the street on Arbutus, close to where I live. $ 20 worth of deli meat for $ 10 is a very good deal and I could get meat for sandwiches to last me a while. The great thing with Pete’s is that it’s new to the neighbourhood and the location is pretty good, although foot traffic can be rather slow. The staff are friendly and I love some of their meat selections like blueberry bison sausages, pork loins, steaks, stocks made in house and more! It is also very clean and well kept. However, the deli section is super small with about 10 types of meat. They don’t carry a lot of products in the meat section either. So it may look kind of empty when you walk in. I guess that’s quite normal with new businesses to not have a large inventory. The prices are also on the high side, not the price range I was looking for. But I ended up getting some schinkenspeck(German style prosciutto) and some Montréal smoked meat. I’d love to see Pete’s stocking up on their products in the near future and perhaps it’s a place where I could get hard to find game meats etc. Wouldn’t that be nice?

Pete, you need more meat. I hoped that Pete’s Meat would fill the void left when Meridian Meats closed with Meinhart’s. Unfortunately, as a stand alone meat store and deli, the variety of different meat products offered at Pete’s is much smaller than even the grocery stores in the neighborhood. Their quality is high, their service is very good, the prices are moderately high but their selection is poor. I don’t know how a pig or a cow is broken down respective to cuts, and maybe Pete will butcher something special for you if you ask, but I am the kind of customer who wants to see it in the case for cooking inspiration, so this situation doesn’t really work for me. I have had 3 varieties of their homemade sausages on 2 different occasions prepared be 2 different people and the common thread with all of them was that the flavor was good but they were quite dry with an unusual texture. Maybe when the business is more established the store will be better stocked and therein lies the catch-22, will customers return when the store is not well stocked?

I have been going to Pete’s for about 3 weeks now. While the meat case is nowhere near the size of Market Meats or Jackson’s, Pete is quick to cut you anything you don’t see in the case. This has happened for me on numerous occasions. He also went out of his way to get swap a smaller turkey for the original size i had ordered. The meat is fresh and flavorful and the price point is pretty good for Kits. There seems to be more competition in the area for good butchers. I hope Pete and his partners to well.

Pete’s Meat opened back a few months ago close to our place, so we were excited to shop there as it is convenient for us. The first couple of weeks, Pete was helpful with suggestions whenever we go there. He explained that most of his meats are hormone-free, and he makes a lot of the sausages in-house. His deli chef is a super nice guy. We’ve spent hundreds of dollars there buying all sorts of products from them. So why did I only give them 2 stars? For two reasons. First, Pete kept saying that he will increase the selection of meats in a couple of weeks. Well, it’s been a few«couple of weeks» now, and the selection is still slim. Second, we went in to buy ground veal the other day. The deli chef said they are out of ground veal and Pete can ground some up for me. But Pete said no, and he’s out of ground veal and I should go back in a few days to check again. So I walked over to Market Meats on W. 4th, who’s also out of ground veal, but quickly offered to ground some up for me on the spot. I think the difference in willingness to service a customer is what I liked about Market Meats. So if Pete can’t be bothered to ground up some meat for me after we’ve spent hundreds of dollars at his shop, I guess in my mind his shop is only worth 2 stars.
