NEWOWNERSHIPANDMANAGEMENT! NOWCALLEDWATERFALLSUSHI. We’ve tried many sushi places, and mediocrity has become the norm. Waterfall Sushi is priced right and delivers! Literally, they also deliver(after 4pm)! Our first experience was a take-out order of our favourite go-to choices, Wild Sockeye Salmon Sashimi(8 nice sized chunk pieces — not lox sized like I’ve been seeing lately) 10/10, Real Crab Cali Roll 10/10, Spicy Tuna Roll(spicy sauce is mixed in with chopped tuna, and delicious with crunchy green onion and maybe some tempura bits?) 10/10, chopped Scallop roll 10/10, Pork Gyoza with soft succulent outer shell and super tasty veg and pork mixture for filling 10/10, Premium Sunrise(most are only 8.95 for 8 pcs) and Victoria rolls… both are 10⁄10. Oh, and the great thing here is that they offer the option for brown rice! AND, it’s not an extra $ 1 a roll… only 50 cents! And, it’s only 25 cents for sushi… Not as bad as most everywhere I’ve been! I mean really… it’s only rice! Paying a buck extra per roll for brown rice is ridiculous, seriously! We wanted to try many things to get a flavour for this new sushi place just around the corner from us… and we’re super happy with what we’ve had! We’re lovin’ this place and we’ll be back whenever we get the need for fantastic sushi! We just finished all we could eat, and I’m already craving more :-)

A great little neighbourhood sushi restaurant. I only work in the vicinity, but it is a regular lunch stop I highly recommend to my colleagues. Lunch is always busy. I enjoy everything, and I eat a lot of Japanese food(I am not Japanese), throughout the Lower Mainland. It is worth the effort to go to. Something Oyaji Zushi does that only a few provide is black rice. Oyaji Zushi calls it brown rice. It is also called ‘Forbidden Rice’. It is a bit more money, but in rolls and don buri’s it is great. Try their teriyaki chicken don buri with black rice.

Maybe I’m a sushi critic. but Oyaji is mediocre. That in mind, its one of the better sushi places for around Granville Island. They should really invest time into making their sushi, because, even before I pick one up with my chopsticks. you can see the seaweed flaking off. That ruins the rolls experience, as your sushi is now no longer in one piece. Seaweed salad is yum! with sprinkles of sesame seed, but small for its price. But I would rather eat here, than the overly priced, eugh food in Granville Island food court. Around the area, and want japanese food? Try their neighbor. Sawa Lounge. Its a descreet place, I forget if they serve sushi. but their bento’s are really good! As well as their mochi’s. Very authentic taste and feel.

This sushi bar as a little off the high traffic streets and has a better décor than most other joints. The menu has more special rolls and they are tastier and more interesting than I’ve seen elsewhere. The downside is that you pay a little more — an 8 piece roll with ends up to be 10 $ with taxes. All in all not worth the extra mile, but if you are there choose it over the other sushi place just down the street.

I passed by this place on my way to check out the Granville market, and while the name«Oyaji Zushi» gave me strange mental images of an old man paired with vinegared rice, the sign stating«We Serve Wild Salmon Only» grabbed my attention. I immediately changed my plans and decided to have dinner here and save the goodies I was planning to buy at the market to eat the next day. I just ordered a few different nigirizushi(including one of the wild salmon, of course), a California roll, and a rainbow roll(because that roll involved more wild salmon), plus some miso soup. The soup was nice, good and salty but not overly so. Sushi was excellent, with generous pieces of fresh fish and good, not-too-large portions of well-seasoned rice. My saba was nicely marinated, with a dollop of sriracha on each piece, but I wish the skin had been left on.(I realize it’s more aesthetically/texturally pleasing to some people when skinless, but I prefer the traditional.) The salmon was indeed wild, its color an intense coral red with flavor to match. The makizushi were very well-made, nice and clean with no mayo to act as a binder(or at least not enough mayo for me to notice it), and lots of good wild salmon and tobiko on the rainbow roll. After tax/tip I ended up spending about $ 27(CDN). It’s more than I’m used to spending on myself at a sushi joint, but for the quality and the WILD salmon and the amount of food I had? Definitely a reasonable price. This place is definitely a hidden gem, check it out if you’re ever near the market.

Large, fresh, delicious sashimi! I was impressed by the portion considering the rolls were pretty average in size. Their wild salmon is the most beautiful bright color… and really melts in the mouth(as does the tuna). Spicy tuna roll passed the test but was not memorable. Mango salmon roll was similar… the mango topping was pretty much sitting on the roll because it was dry and unripe. Thanks to the generous, high quality sashimi, and the great location(right by granville island market), I’d return here.

I’m always on the search for quality, fresh sushi spots. One of my recent favorites is Oyaji Zushi — a quaint little sushi restaurant located in the Waterfall building near Granville Island. From the outside it almost looks like a hole in the wall — but the sushi is fresh, high quality and they don’t cheap out on ingredients or stuff your sushi with rice overload. They only serve wild salmon and you can have your sushi made with brown rice. Reasonably priced, with specialty rolls such as the Tuna Crunch Roll — tuna topped with Unagi and garlic chips for $ 8.50.
