Sadly, Loving Hut is now closed. There was a fire a few weeks ago and I guess they just couldn’t come back after that. When I went by today all of the window were papered over and there is a «for lease» sign in the window. :(I’m sad, they had the best vegan poutine in the city. :(

Loving Hut is okay. I want to think it’s fantastic, because it’s all-vegan, but I think it’s okay. The food is all pretty standard, pub-style fare — the kind of stuff you can get in any joint that serves beer, except it’s vegan, and Loving Hut doesn’t serve alcohol. The menu features items like pizza, yam fries, nachos, poutine, salads, burgers, a wrap, a bowl. All of them are passable. Other than the pizza, nothing is incredible. The pizza IS incredible. For $ 4 you get two pieces of pizza and a delicious dipping sauce, which varies with the type of pizza ordered. I’ve tried the Ocean Love and really enjoyed it. The crust has a great thickness and texture, and there’s loads of toppings so it doesn’t just taste like Daiya. The menus for Loving Huts elsewhere look so much more exciting. I am glad this place is here, though.

Awesome Possum. I love this place & eat here at least once a week. The Golden Rice bowl is terrific and so is the Nature’s wrap. I’m not a veggie or vegan but this place has it going ON. It’s not the best décor or ambiance wise, but I’m not picky that way. One downside — it’s cold in there. The windows aren’t double glazed so even with the heat cranked winter can be a bit hard to take in there… *aaaand it would appear they’ve burned down… Check back later…

YES !! as good as it gets !!! This restaurant is a blessing for Vegans !! Wait, i’ll re-phrase it — Its a blessing for humanity !! Not only will the food here Tintilize your taste buds, It is also good for the Earth! The Pizza is amazing and they use Daiya Vegan Cheese which is great for a dairy free alternative. Vegan food is long considered as to be Salad only, but there are so many options from Pizza to burger to rice bowls, faux chicken nuggets, Poutine !! Who says Vegan food cant be tasty? The pizza can take a while to cook though :) And for dessert, this is where this palce will knock your sox off… try the Chi-Cake… its soooo delicious !! its vegan and it will make u forget the Cheese cake you had before.

I am not sure why I thought this was an Asian-esque vegan restaurant. Outside of the multi-language bizarre television station Loving Hut is more westernized than anything else. Nonetheless, even though I was craving a wide variety of stirfry options, I remained seated. Choices of vegan pizza, burgers(portobello or a couple of types of patties) salads and soups made up the girth of this menu. [add italics and hint of sarcasm to girth, that’s basically they’re whole menu listed above]. I settled with the Rice Bowl, terriyaki sauce. There was also a choice with miso gravy. Crisp, bright steamed veggies, brown rice, fake chicken, mushrooms and tofu. I wasn’t the biggest fan of the shredded fake chicken, but everything else was pretty good. It certainly didn’t need the overzealous pepper shaking that must have taken place before it reached my table. I wondered if inside the kitchen there was a pepper sprinkler that sprayed each dish as it passed through to be served, but I digress… Service was attentive and sweet and the water had major lemon pulp, which I love. But, outside of the brightly coloured wall with inspirational words and frames of vegans from the past and present(Einstein to Sarah Mclachlan) and the rainstorm of pepper, I just felt it lacked spice, ambiance, character, something to separate it from a food court at the mall.

I found the Loving Hut through Earthsave’s Vegetarian Directory. I had no idea that it exsisted before, and I must say, I’m glad that I now do! I looked up this joint online before going, and the menu that I came across was very different from that one that is actually in the café. There are not a huge amount of options to choose from — but the dish that I had was fantastic. Everything is 100% vegan — making it very convienient for me. I had the rice bowl, complete with tofu, Gardien chick’n, and vegan shrimp! There were tons of veggies, and it was topped with a great miso gravy. The Loving Hut also offers handmade veggie burgers, pizzas either by the slice, or in full, wraps, and array of salads, «cheese“cake, and raw cakes. Excellent service, and the food was brought out extrememly quick. Two thumbs up!

I was hesitant to give this place a 4… ideally I’d give it a 3.5, but I’m feeling soft today. Here’s what you have to keep in mind: this is a vegetarian cafeteria-style restaurant. Comparing it to the other vegetarian/vegan restaurants in the city is somewhat unfair because it’s sort of in its own little category. As a vegetarian, I find it really hard to walk into a casual, fast restaurant where I can be in and out in 30 minutes, or grab something to go and take it back to the office. The salads are fresh, they don’t seem to skimp on the tofu, and the burgers look good(although I haven’t gotten to that stage in our relationship yet). That’s what’s so great about Loving Hut. The food itself is average, but if you want a good, warm, vegan meal made when you order it to fill up your tummy on your lunch break, this place is perfect. If you want a well presented meal in a cozy atmosphere, you’re barking up the wrong tree. Take this place for what it is: a fast, tasty vegan cafeteria with friendly service that’ll send you back out onto the street with a full belly for a low price. Oh, and the super lemony water they serve is delicious. Nom. Nom nom nom.
