Their fried oyster sandwich is amazingly delicious. A perfect combo of fried oyster goodness with a perfectly tangy and creamy tarter sauce. They are particularly generous with their oysters too with three plump and juicy oysters in their sandwich. Can you say yummy?

Live only 1 block away from the food truck but never heard of this until I Unilocaled it on line. Tried it out at lunch with a 2pc sockeye salmon fish and chips, and a sockeye salmon burger for my wife. Portions were very large, taste was very fresh. My wife still thinks the salmon burger at Granville Island’s food court kiosk is better(in the farmer’s market) but she thinks this is very very good. With the close proximity to my place and quick service(though I was at the tail end of lunch hour), we will be enjoying their food more often.

I tried one of their beef sandwiches and it was super salty. It tasted nothing like their name implies. It wasn’t a bad sandwich by any means, but it was more akin to a British pub item with no nutritional value. Like none. The next day as I was passing by to go do some business in the area that morning, I noticed one of the cooks setting up. So I took the courtesy to politely mention the salt. He in kind minimally acknowledged my suggestion, but with a deer in the headlights look. Who knows what he was thinking, but in my mind he didn’t resonate as that of someone having any cognisance about the food they make with their coworkers and people who must then choose to eat it. So far I haven’t been inclined to go back for another try since… that could change?

Very friendly guy. I got the fried oyster sandwich. It’s called Chicken Fried Oyster. It’s yummy. They gave lots of oyster. It’s crunchy & yummy. It’s $ 11.55($ 11 + tax).

3 stars downgraded to 2. I returned for the hyped Chicken Special sandwich and it was. well. kinda meh. If it hadn’t been hyped it would still be meh but it felt like über meh because I had high expectations. The chicken was overdone and a bit chewy and the batter was plain batter, it didn’t taste seasoned. And there’s lettuce and mayo. The bun didn’t stand up to the chicken so it(the bun) was breaking apart on me. Maybe the bun holds up better if the chicken isn’t so chewy but even if that was the case, it still wouldn’t be amazing. I didn’t get the fries this time.

I’ll be honest, the only reason I came here is that I saw it on Diners, Dives and Dashes on TV. I’ve been to only one other of Guy’s recommendations, and it was the bomb, so I really had to see what this place was about. I ordered 2 fish(halibut and cod) and chips with a side of seafood poutine. The guys in the truck kinda looked at me and said that it was a lot of food and that I’d be superhuman to eat it all. I really only wanted to try everything and I was only half listening to him(I was kinda just looking at the food in the background). I decided to not heed his warning and order it anyways. The nice thing about this place is that it’s a food truck… with a patio attached to the back of it. Pretty cool because you get to watch the artists in the back of the truck prepare all the awesome food. The fish is awesome, I would expect nothing else of Vancouver. Seriously, you can’t go wrong with fish in Vancouver. The batter was better than average, but not really the best I’ve ever had. The«chips» were kinda soggy for my liking, they kinda reminded me of swiss chalet fries. The seafood poutine is a bit deceiving for the name. It’s really just fries with seafood chowder poured all over it. It’s CRAZYFILLING though. I managed to get through the poutine, and the two fish, but I couldn’t kill the rest of the fries. Maybe next time when someone me it’s a crazy amount of food and you can’t eat it I should listen instead of being mesmerized by food… or not…

Great food truck experience. Loved the attached mini patio that allowed you to watch the cooks. I could smell the truck first and followed my nose to the Chowder Poutine, which was actually Chowder fries, lack of cheese curds stops me short of calling it Poutine. Fresh hand cut fries with glorious steelhead, Ling Cod, I had mine minus the mussels and clams, its a texture thing. Lots of flavour and good portions for under $ 10. Great lunch.

Fresh Local Wild was featured on the show DDD and for good reason. I’ve never had a seafood poutine quite like the one here. Imagine a white wine seafood chowder full of mussels, bacon, carrots and celery poured all over a mound of crispy fries. For $ 9, the poutine is quite a large portion and I had a hard time finishing it. Defnitely not your traditional poutine, but still wonderful comfort food.

Fresh? Yes Very! Local? Hell ya! Wild? Doesn’t taste farmed, that’s for sure! Now, from Taiwan, I know fresh fish.(Unfresh fish for frying, too much sauce, awkward batter… I’ve seen it all.) As a test, I choose fish and chips($ 17) and fried oyster sandwich($ 10). This place passed the test with flying colors! Fluffy cod with not too much batter on remarkable fries leaves a lasting impression in my mind and each oyster I bite into explodes and juices dribbles down my chin. It’s a beautiful sight to see anyone digging into their food. So quit staring at the lineup! XD

* 3.5 stars * Fresh Local Wild — You are a bit of a tease. Fresh. Local. Wild. I envisioned delicious fish with lots of greens. I don’t know why I pictured healthy food. After all, now that I know Guy Fierri was here, how could it be? You had me at seafood chowder poutine. I had to have it. I took the skytrain over from Yaletown for lunch one day. There was already a lineup. Still, my order was quickly taken. You told everyone in line to order first and pay afterwards so the food would get started. Then you had us all come back up to pay. It felt like an awkward and clumsy process, but it sure worked. We shared the poutine along with the roasted chicken salad. I admit, I wasn’t excited about the roasted chicken initially. I mean, it’s CHICKEN. And I wanted seafood. However, my BFF stated several times in between wows and oh-my-gods and mmmms that it was in fact quite possibly the best chicken she’s ever eaten in her life. It really was quite tender and juicy. The salad was excellent, as well. So, in fact, you can eat healthy here if you want — but definitely try the poutine at least once. The poutine was nice. I enjoyed the chunks of carrot but there was a strong almost overpowering celery flavor. The seafood was good. The dish wasn’t salty at all and didn’t feel so overwhelmingly rich. Both the salad and the poutine were quite large portions.

Decided to give this food cart a go after seeing it featured on DDD. I tried the oyster burger, as well as the clam chowder fries and the oyster burger. The oyster burger was unique. The oysters were firm and tasty. The fries were a bit on the greasy side, but tasted decent. The clam chowder fries poutine is their claim to fame, and is a unique twist on your typical fries and gravy. The chowder does go well with the fries, but this dish is really messy to eat. I would suggest a fork instead of your hands. The only thing I must say though is that this is one of the pricier food carts, with no items under $ 8.50. The burger was $ 11 or so and was a bit on the small size, though it included fries. If you get lucky, I suggest eating at the cute little table at the back. Scratch one off my bucket list.

In my meandering adventures through downtown Vancouver I have run into the Fresh Local Wild food cart on several occasions. I’m always in a hurry, have missed them, or they are already closed for the day. After seeing their teaser on Diners, Drive In’s, and Dives, I was in trouble. Like all of you I started to develop a twitch and serious craving for some Seafood Chowder poutine among other delicacies. Well today my friends! I was there in time to snag a Chicken Fried Oyster ‘Po-Boy’, but alas the poutine was sold out.(Take note: This stuff is so good they sell right out of it) So in the name of good research, I will have to hit them up again just for the poutine. Multiple times apparently, because I am a mushroom FANATIC and these guys have a Chanterelle Mushroom Poutine too. Now if you’re reading this post and thinking, «ew, Oysters!». Please put aside all of your negative memories brought on by previous oyster pitfalls. These are not the«salad bar in vegas» oysters, nor the«left out too long and have just sent your digestive tract to a very bad place» oysters. These are the oysters to be put on a pedestal of how to cook an oyster. Think fresh fresh fresh, just hauled out of the water for your culinary enjoyment. My Sandwich arrived with a HEAPING mountain of fresh cut, flash fried, crispy as hell fries. The only thing missing was the chowda! Even without being doused in vinegar, salt or ketchup, these fries were pretty phenomenal. Super fresh and skin on. My Po-Boy was a sight to behold. Oozing with fresh made tartar sauce that topped the Sawmill Bay Jumbo Oyster. Now I will admit, that like many people, I haven’t had a great relationship with oysters. But this sandwich is a game changer. Battered on the outside leaving the edges crispy and delicious while leaving the inside moist and fresh. There is no unpleasant fishy taste, just simply the delightful Oyster flavor combined with the snappy tartar sauce and fresh lettuce. The oyster manages to contain its moisture while the edges(my favorite part) were crispy, like oyster calamari if you will. Now completely aside from the food offered up by Chef Josh Wolfe, Fresh Local Wild stands apart from many of the food carts of our fine city. Their cart is a one of a kind. Custom designed to offer their clientele a shelter from our rain forest weather. A covered table and benches that could easily seat 4 – 6 people cozy and warm with a view of the kitchen. They also use a completely unique source of power. Their description pulled straight off their website says it best… «Mobile power generation is never easy but it can be Green. Fresh Local Wild has accomplished an industry first by creating a power system that runs off 100% VEG oil. This means that when we have used the oil in the deep fryers to it’s capacity we can pour it straight into the tank and fuel our generator. That’s why we say ‘Powered by Fish N’ Chips»! An onboard intake and custom filtering system allow us to use oil from any fryer, anywhere! « So really, the brilliant design of their cart keeps the hippies happy while the unique menu appeals to the gourmet foodies of our fine city. What a perfect balance for Vancouver.

Find Fresh Local Wild at the southeast corner of W. Hastings and Burrard, serving up some fresh ingredients sourced locally. If you’re into knowing where your food comes from, this is one food truck to support. If you’re about keeping your carbon footprint as low as possible, this is one food truck to support. More on that later. If you’re into delicious, delicious food, well, you’ll have to let your tastebuds be the judge on that one. The chicken fried oyster sandwich !!! If you love oysters, get it. The next day, we tried the seared tuna melt. Now THAT is the way to make a tuna melt. We visited Vancouver for four days and ate here twice. The first time, we were able to enjoy the mobile dining patio that Chef Josh Wolfe built with his own hands. It’s attached to the back of the truck, and you are basically eating ON the food truck itself. On the second day, we were back around lunchtime, and they were BUSY. The table was full, but it looks like you can make reservations via email! Re: carbon footprint — Fresh Local Wild is powered by 100% vegetable oil, essentially using up what was JUST cooking up the fish and chips. Would definitely visit again if I’m ever so lucky to be in Vancouver again. What a beautiful city. :)

(thirty/thirty) I had such high hopes for this one. Not only was this my first Diners, Drive-Ins, and Dives location, but it was also my first food truck experience. The episode in question(as far as I can remember, anyway) featured two menu options. One of them was the oyster po-boy, and the other a seafood chowder poutine. Now oyster just isn’t something that tickles my fancy, so I opted for the poutine. As if my arm needed any twisting, really. Poutine is my middle name. Caropoutinelyn. Not exactly what someone like me would call modestly priced. I can’t recall the exact dollar value, but it’s more than what I would spend at Fritz or La Belle Patate to satisfy my craving. I did enjoy the small but well-heated seating area while I waited for my order, and had a friendly chat with the guys on the truck. The poutine, however, left a lot to be desired. Average tasting fries piled high with a lot of cubed carrots, and not enough seafood to balance it out. I know what you see on TV is not necessarily what it actually is in real life, but since then I’ve had other Food Network featured restaurant experiences, and for the most part, they’ve lived up to their reputation. Of course, it doesn’t help that I don’t care for cooked carrots, and there definitely was an abundance of them. In any case, the meat to veggie ratio was off, and not in the way that I would have preferred. I would be willing to say that perhaps it was an off day for them, because for the most part, people seem to love ‘em! And I know many are big fans of the poutine, as well as the other menu items. Unfortunately, this one put a bad taste in my mouth in more ways than one, and first impressions count. Sorry, FLW, but I’ll pass!
