Most days this is a great place to sit and chat with friends over drink. Their food is typical for bar standards. Drinks are reasonably priced. I don’t go on live music nights because it is unbearably loud, you can’t hear yourself think let alone hold conversations with friends. Other than that, just a basic bar.

Was here with a bunch of friends. We sat on the patio and didn’t get greeted or passed menus till 15 mins in. For some reason we had 2 – 3 waitresses?(not sure what was going on). Ordered Nachos, could of used a bit more cheese or «filling» as at the end there was nothing but dried tortilla chips and a tortilla«lining» on the pan. I will did it an extra star for having«copper size» drinks =)

Good food and location ! Place has nice atmosphere and good service. The best thing in my books is the Nacho’s, not because they load them up with all the goodies and serve a good size portion but because they do something no one else seems to. Wait for it … the bottom of the nachos isn’t stick unappealing wax paper or parchment paper, IT’S A TORTILLA ! POW Mind Blow ! No more wasting chips and wonderful lumps of melted cheese because there is parchment paper stuck to the bottom. At the end it’s just tearing of chunks and everything is devoured by hungry mouths

I’ve been dragged to this place once or twice a year for a decade. It’s been an unenjoyable experience every time. The lighting, noise, and size of the place contribute to an awful atmosphere. If it’s a Thursday to Saturday night the place is chocked full of large groups of screaming 19 year olds. If they have a live band playing good luck being able to have a conversation, even on the patio. Even when I was 19 I found this place a waste of an evening. If you have any taste whatsoever walk 2 doors down the road to Elwoods.

My buddy just had a bad day, and he wanted to go out for some beer and killer nachos. Now, if you are in UBC on a friday, and want to have nachos, you can probably just go to Koerner’s Pub or Mahony and Sons to get some nachos, or, you can take your game to the next level by going to the Coppertank. :) These guys run a nice deal on Tank-sized nachos(good quantity, enough for 4 – 5 people) every Friday. And guys, I’m not talking about the generic miss-it-if you-blink cheese portions nachos. Their nachos have pretty generous amounts of cheese. Top it up with extra chicken, and you are in for a treat. Could it still be made a little better? Maybe if there is little more seasoning on the chicken strips. :P We went for a few batches of craft beer which were all reasonably priced. They had live music, and it was a decent atmosphere overall. There were plenty of large screen tvs placed all around, and it seemed to be a good place to go to on a game night. It gets pretty crowded on weekend nights, and most people seem to be UBC undergrads. Best part of the night? When this group came up to us and offered us a free pitcher for trading their smaller table for ours. :)

I’ve been here twice in the past week for some low-key birthdays, so I figured it was time for a review. ‘The Tank’ is popular amongst students, which should give you a pretty good idea of its character. Rough wooden décor with a few good larger booths for big groups. –Try the perogy pizza just for kicks, but only once. –Nachos are okay(but big!) –I love the fries!(And as such– the poutine!) –The deluxe burger has too many mushrooms and the balance of meat to toppings is a bit off. In summary, good for casual get-togethers with the gang.

I used to come here when I was a ubc student. Now as a 30 year old it’s weird because it doesn’t have the same feel as it once did. We come here after our baseball games and we usually play the trivia. The pizzas are pretty good but now that I’m celiac they have no wheat free options, the only things you can eat are the salads or potato skins. Beers on tap are not that great. I loved this place but they need to keep up with the new places!

Pretty much a bar to go and get hammered on HUGE beers and cocktails. I’m not sure how big the ‘tank’ beers glasses are, 24 oz’s I believe. But big, and around the $ 9/$ 10 mark. It’s a decent selection of crafts and imports. Usually full of UBC students getting wasted, that’ll either be a great thing or a bad thing depending on your sensibilities.

Awesome place to go to on late Friday nights with my friends after midterms. It’s super close to campus, and has a great live cover band performing those nights. Wish I went more often. It’s always super packed on Fridays, so we ended up getting seated near the stage, which was fine. My friend ordered the pulled-pork poutine for herself and I had some of it, tasted pretty good. I’m hoping to share the nachos next time. They have this apple cider that is actually now one of my favourites — Somersby! I had it with a shot of raspberry schnapps, I believe, best thing ever. Service is friendly but it takes awhile for drinks, especially if it’s packed. I’d rate it 3.5 stars if possible.

Came here with a few friends to grab drinks and snacks in December ’13. With $ 10 triple Long Islands and a location close to UBC, you know it’s going to be a hit with the student clientele-which is exactly the category that we fell under. Our waitress was prompt and attentive. It was a Monday evening and the place was fairly empty, so she was able to seat us right away and made us feel at ease. The Long Islands are large(think enormous beer mugs) and delicious, but definitely do not have thrice the alcohol content as one Long Island. That’s probably a good thing. Oh, and the nachos: those are phenomenal. Liberally stacked with cheese, meat and guacamole, and accompanied by salsa and sour cream, this is a snack-well, to be entirely honest, it turned into a meal for us-worth breaking your diet for. Fortunately, Coppertank is located right on a bus line, so you’re good to go even if you have a couple of drinks too many. I had a good evening out on my visit, but I’m not sure if I’d come back once I stop being a student.

Everything is sticky. The $ 4 red wine is served out of the refrigerator. The service is pretty lacklustre(want another round of drinks? good luck!). Buuuuut… they have large tables for groups, they serve giant«tank» beers, and the poutine is decent. I suppose I wouldn’t object to going here, but I certainly wouldn’t recommend it to others!

Warning: if you are over 20 and come here on a weekend specifically a Friday night, be prepared to be inundated by the UBC crowd! The place gets loud any energy is high which is fantastic, however I felt like an old bag coming here after my shift ended at work at 9 p.m. Maybe if I dressed up a bit, maybe if I was with a group of girlfriends I would have felt a little better about myself but I wasn’t. I had dinner with my boyfriend and we both really enjoyed the food, however as soon as we were done our meal we ran next door to Elwood’s to continue having cocktails at the big kids’ table.

Like visiting a textbook version of how not to run a pub. Empty on Monday night. Lumpen«barn wood» décor. TVs everywhere, though at least a few had something playing other than hockey. Just bearable tunes. 2 staff too busy chatting to notice my arms flapping for bill, having suffered indifferent tepid Guinness that took for freakling ever to get. Menu stupid, boring mix of nachos, pizza and burgers. Why go?

Wow this place was a let down. Came in last night for a friend’s birthday, there was a large group of us. Place was fairly empty for the first couple hours we were there. Our server was atrocious. It took a good 15 min of me sitting without a drink to order another one, and when I did it was because I had to flag her down. Several others in our group wanted to order more drinks/food, but she didn’t even stick around long enough for them to have time to ask. The kicker was when one of the guys in our group ordered an iced tea(8+ years sober), she brought him a triple long island iced tea. The food was decent and the beer selections are good… I do like the 24 ounce beers… nice change from 16 ounce sleeves that most bars in this city offer. Despite this, I probably won’t be coming back.

I’ve been coming here for 9 years now since back in my undergrad days! Such good memories with friends! They have good beer, and sports on their tvs. I came here to pre-drink for the Canada Gold Medal hockey game during the Olympics! And also for a late night dinner/large snack after a long day of work with a friends. We ended up ordering their gigantic nachos with everything on it, including chicken and guac! All for $ 23. That was really pricey, but also tasty. The sides also come in a really small container too, unfortunately. But, I would still come back.

Some friends and I headed over here for a quiet Wednesday after work drink and I was truly disappointed with the service. I can usually tolerate slow service, but this was SLOW. No one noticed we had arrived until 10 minutes after we seated ourselves. We had to make smoke signals to flag down the waitress, and when she did come, she bascially gave us the death stare. Would it have killed her to be friendly or crack a smile? What saved the night was a delicious order of poutine! The fries were hot and crisp, the gravy was just the right meatiness and thickness. Even my friend from Montréal approves, and they know their poutine. :)

They have HUGE nachos! We ordered the small to share among 7 – 8 of us and we were stuffed. The plate was spilling over the edges and the pile was as least 6 inches high. I shudder to think of what the large would look like. We also ordered the garlic fries and when they say garlic, they mean garlic. You could smell it from a mile away. They were crispy and despite the overwhelming smell, didn’t have strong garlic taste. The atmosphere here is good. Not too crazy loud, but still busy. Service wasn’t the best — it took forever to get the attention of anyone that worked there and drinks took a really long time to arrive. Prices are normal and its in a good area. The night we were there, there was a live band playing. They weren’t the best, but they played a bunch of well known covers.

DAMN, I hate the CHANGES! This went from«yay– i’m a regular» straight down to two stars. This used to be the classic dive bars with the slightly sticky tables but awesome beer and awesome service. Then they had their first reno and cleaned up a bit– which made it still kickass(even though they took away the large bench seating and put in booths. the NEW setup is just TERRIBLE. I walked in here on the weekend and FROZE upon seeing the new island bar in the middle and all the seating looked cramped and anti-social. This is no longer a hang-out place. They turned it to just any other sports bar that has enclosed tables. There is NO flow of people and what was once a great place to run into randoms is now just any other pub. The Coppertank has lost its lacklustre-charm and is now just«meh. I’ve experienced better»

This is a very casual beer drinking bar, the prices are decent. My favourite drink would be their ceasars! It’s to die for, so delicious. not too spicy, not too sour, just about right. I’ve been to both Coppertanks, one on Broadway which had wooden tables and looked more like any sports bar. Main and 22nd, a more modern atmosphere with 1 and a half level(upstairs). I believe there are more TVs up on Main so if you ever want to catch a game, go down to the Coppertank on Main st!
