This place is a hidden gem! The quality and care taken to prepare the food places Kamizato above Minami and Miku in my books. 5 star quality food in a cozy and homey environment. I love watching the owner prepare the sushi because you can tell he takes pride in serving top quality food. The seared toro and seared saba are amazing. They never buy precut toro; they buy a full tuna and cut the belly fresh. I didn’t know saba could be so good until eating it at Kamizato. Other places where I’ve had saba, it tasted very salty and was not very flavourful. These guys really do it right. Truly top notch sushi restaurant.

Omg, such a gem in Port Coquitlam area. Nigiris are to die for. Aka Ebi, omg, probably the best one I had. I like the Tiger Eyes but it can be better. It is not your usual«cheap» sushi place but you are here for the taste and the quality. I would defiantly come back again!

I decided to give Sushi Kazimoto a try after reading some positive reviews on Unilocal — I was not disappointed. Located in a plaza in Port Coquitlam, this place is a hidden gem and a must-try if you are ever in the area. The interior is decorated with rock memorabilia and many records that plaster one of the walls — I am guessing that the owner is a big fan. Thankfully for Unilocal,I knew to order the Tiger Eye which is not a menu item. These are ordered by the piece and is basically a piece of very lightly torched salmon wrapped around sushi rice and topped with a generous portion of chopped scallop/tobiko mix. One bite and I was in heaven. The other dishes I ordered were the Appetizer Sashimi(this was average), Beef Aburi Sashimi(beef was extremely tender and had a melt-in-your mouth feel, but I found the sauce to be a bit too overpowering and vinegar-y), and the Tri-City roll(this was quite good as well). Service was good, and our server constantly came by to top up our teas. The prices here are a bit higher than the average Tri-City area sushi house — but this does reflect in the higher quality ingredients used and in the chef’s creativity in his dishes. Sushi Kazminoto is a wonderful addition to the Tri-Cities and I can’t wait to go back and try out some of their other dishes!

Did this place get sold or something? Under new management? They didn’t have any of the dishes they show in the pictures online. They didn’t have half the things I tried to order! They say they’re open until 9:30PM(I even checked their sign twice!) but they come by at 8:30 and tell us it’s their last call then they started packing up at 9:00, how lazy. Their food wasn’t even that good and it was really expensive. Service wasn’t really that good either. A real let down. Don’t go, not worth your time. You will only be disappointed.

Hmmm… I was going to give them a 1 star but decided to justify it a little bit. It’s probably because we had better Japanese food that’s why we’re not satisfied with the food here. We came here because of the good reviews, but we’re disappointed. The roll are pretty small for the price you pay, the presentation is very plain and rolls breaks off pretty easily when you pick it up with the chopsticks. Spicy sashimi is very small portion for $ 12, as you can see on the pictures. They also forgot one of our order, we didn’t follow up because everything takes awhile to come but eventually we grew tired of waiting … and guess what, they forgot about it. The only saving grace is the Tiger’s Eye($ 4.25 a piece), now we’re talking!!! It’s their specialty roll apparently and it’s not even on the menu. The server didn’t inform me about this, if I didn’t see the pictures on the reviews I most likely wouldn’t have even known about it. I had to show the server the picture and ask her if they have it. It’s really good though, if I decided to come back here I’ll probably only order this roll but then again… do I really want to pay $ 4.25 for a piece???

The rating is quite high but I didn’t find anything to really justify such a rating for me personally. I’m sure others would have different opinions. Rolls are a bit on the smaller side but the ingredients are fresh and tasty. Server tried to upsell us on the more expensive dishes which is ok, but not that helpful. The restaurant was very empty when I was there, even though it was dinner time. Later, when we passed by Sushi California, there was a crowd of people waiting outside.

I never had sushi or Japanese food in Port Coquitlam. Looking up on Unilocal to see which Japanese restaurant was good or above average, this was the one! This Japanese restaurant has a rock and roll interior design including the bathroom. Very cool. Usually Japanese restaurants have Japanese design or Asian style, but this one is very unique! I came here for dinner. Surprisingly the restaurant was not busy at all on a Friday night! No wait. Got a table right away and received great service. There were two servers and two chefs. One of the servers gave a brief introduction of their food and menu. Their menu design is tiny and there are not too many choices comparing to the ones in Vancouver. I ordered a BC roll, Albacore crunch roll, special scallop and appetizer sashimi. All of the food tasted great. Only the portion was smaller. I thought the prices at this restaurant in Port Coquitlam would be less expensive comparing to the ones in Vancouver but surprisingly their prices are the same as Vancouver’s. I could find cheaper prices at Sushi Ville on Commercial Drive. Overall it was a good experience at this restaurant. If you ever visit Port Coquitlam and look for a good Japanese restaurant, you should try this one.

Reaffirmed my love for this place tonight! Food is top notch and a rock n roll atmosphere to boot! The chef/owner is a great guy and really cares about the quality of your experience at his restaurant. This is truly one of the best sushi restaurants in metro Vancouver!

We had an ok experience. The service is very slow but the food is good. 1: we had to wait over 50 minutes for a few roles 2: My drink was flat and warm. 3: The heat was blasting. Felt like a sauna. 4: After the long anticipated wait the food was very good.

Great sushi in a cool, rock and roll atmosphere. Owners are kind and provide good service. The restaurant is often busy, so expect to wait. This is not a quick place to dine in, rather, it is a spot for romantic dates where you can sit and stare into your eyes of your dining companion and sip tea or sake. Sushi comes in small portions. The sushi nachos is a fun and tasty appetizer… It is different and one of a kind. They mainly have sushi rolls here and the menu is quite small, no noodles or other items you may expect from your typical sushi restaurant. This place is one of a kind and the food they serve is made with passion.

Came here to celebrate my 19th birthday with my parents last night. When I think of my dinner here I still feel a little confused. I’m not sure if it was because of my super high expectations(one of my best friends is in love with this place) but I wasn’t in love… We had the H.I.T, the let it beef roll, the albacore crunch roll, the rainbow battera, the ocean wiser roll, and love on the rock. Nothing was super special in my opinion? If i had to pick out my two favourites they’d be the rainbow battera and the love on the rock. The love on the rock was actually pretty amazing. Everything was just… better than your average sushi(of course) but not amazing? I kept on thinking back to my amazing meal at Ajisai… The service was excellent however, and so was the ambience. Keith is super into rock music so that was pretty cool. I like how for the quality of the food they don’t try to force a certain«upscale» atmosphere upon you. I’ll definitely be coming back. Hopefully next time my visit will be better!

Mackerel — juicy, fresh, tender(straight from Japan) «Made in POCO» — the combination of soy bean paper and spinach goes together so well. It’s like eating a fresh delicious roll of happiness. So healthy yet so tasty. «Albacore Crunch Roll» — the tuna was seasoned to perfection. At every crunch, it did not disappoint. «Aburi Hamachi» — this spicy spin on yellowtail sushi was tamed down by the garden fresh garnishes topped on top. Definitely one to remember. «Tigers eye» — WOW. The sweetness from the scallop & the smokiness of the salmon. Just plain WOW. «Black Saba» — there was a hint of green garnishes that waters your mouth with every bite. Combine that with the minced Japanese mackerel, and you get blessings. «I Love Lucy» — the blends of the components powers all the tastes buds from sweet, to sour, to salty and back to sweet again. What a wonderful journey this cooked sushi brought me.

Keith and his wife are some of the nicest people I have ever met. First time I went in they welcomed us and gave us a free appetizer. This was when it first opened. The décor is interesting. It has your typical sushi joint look with a lot of rock n roll décor around. Keith is a big rock and roll fan. The food is amazing. Very fresh. Very creative. Keith always comes up with new recipes and always new fish from all across the world. Because Keith is 100% Japanese as well as his wife. you know it’s authentic food they are cooking up. He has one awards for best sushi in poco and it’s well deserved. Keep on rocking Keith.

I loved the ambiance and atmosphere at Sushi K Kazimoto. The music, the décor, the people — all excellent. It’s a bit like The Eatery in Kitsilano in terms of creating an entirely different environment to eat sushi in. And it’s authentically Japanese with their awards front and centre. Their rolls are named after classic rock bands and songs — you won’t find this concept anywhere else around. All that said, I prefer Naomi Sushi a few blocks away. That taste is more my style even if the rolls are less untraditional. The price point is more fair there, too, so while I might head back to Sushi K Kazimoto for the vibe, I’ll be sticking with the tried and true for sushi that I love a little more.

I went to this little place last night for dinner and I was really impressed with the quality of food coming out of the kitchen. The food is beautifully presented and tastes really fresh. My friend and I had a variety of items — the tuna gomae(no spinach in this one), the special of the day, which was«blue nose fish», the ocean wiser roll and a selection of nigiri sushi, including sweet shrimp, tiger eye, snow crab, foie gras and the aburi toro. Everything was fantastic. I can’t wait to go back and try some of their other creative offerings.

We were trying to find a place for dinner to celebrate my brother’s birthday and decided on Sushi K Kamizato. It was recommended to me by Becky H. and Maggie L. We were super happy with the meal! I’m recommending this place to everyone I talk to! We ordered Japanese nachos, beef sashimi, chirashi don, aburri dynamite roll, ocean wise roll, aburri house roll and the spicy and shout roll. The most memorable item we had was the tiger eye! It was pricey but was completely worth it! I can’t wait to go back!

Amazing! This is an authentic sushi with the owner/chef trained in Japan. We sat at the bar on a Saturday night. There were a few regulars sitting around us. They didn’t even order from the menu. The owner just served whatever he thought they’d like that night — how cool is that? Ordered a lot of the rolls on special. The s.p.y(scallop prawn yam) tempura was on point with a delicious sauce on the side. The nigiri(although a bit on the pricy side) was fresh and delicious. Had the uni and tiger eye… boy were they yummy! If they weren’t so expensive… def would have ordered more(almost $ 5 each). Also had the tuna crunch roll — so good! And the tuna meatball on special… also good but not something i would crave. Other reviews mention how service is slow. Sure the food takes time to come out… but it’s all part of the experience. Don’t come here if you’re in a rush. When we were there it was almost like they had too many servers. Lots of them were just standing around waiting to do something. Overall a fantastic sushi restaurant. Definitely one of the best I’ve ever been too! Can’t wait to go back

After starting off the evening with dessert at Matteo’s Gelato, we found this sushi place around the corner that was flooded with rave reviews on Unilocal,so we had to give it a try. If people are happy with Miku /Minami, then you should go to Sushi K Kamizato b/c the prices are slightly lower but you get such good quality sushi and fish! Even better if you’re in the Coq side, its much closer. While the prices are more expensive in general, the décor /atmosphere has an electric guitar in the corner, with records plaster on the wall, and rock ‘n roll inspired names. Its fun, but not«posh & high end /classy», like Miku /Minami. Its a different vibe, but its cool! It seats 22 people, with a small bar area — really intimate! Apparently there’s an omakase menu, which will be cool to consider for next time, and especially interesting if you can get seated at the bar! We ordered items off the menu, but didn’t realise(until after we ordered), that they had off-menu specials, so ask about this! They had foie gras nigiri, whelk, red tuna, and a few other creations. And even better, if you happen to be sitting at the sushi bar and Keith is working, you can probably chat him up a bit(if he’s not too busy). I ordered a chopped scallop sushi, few pieces of wild salmon nigiri, and we shared a few special rolls. One of the rolls that stand out in particular is the Tri Cities Roll: Tuna + radish roll, with torched tuna on top. The torched fish gave it a nice smokey flavor, it was amazing! I gotta say, my fav items were still the basics: chopped scallop, and absolutely the wild salmon. It was a deep red color, it had such a clean flavor. at first, I really didn’t want to pay $ 3 /nigiri(since its usually around $ 1-$ 1.20 at other standard places), but seriously — its WORTH it. I was tempted to just go for the other different menu items, and while its great to try that, please don’t overlook the wild salmon nigiri /sashimi. Service was decent, our server kept offering refills on tea(which is nice, since i’ve been to places where you have to constantly flag them down). Sorry for the lack of pictures — I ate everything too fast, before realizing I forgot to take pics!

Amazing! Did a bit of research before trying and wow was it ever worth it! This is not your run of the mill sushi joint with big portions and low prices though. Definitely a pricier option but high quality and fresh. The ‘secret menu’ at first was ‘unavailable’ but it did not take much coercion for the waitress to give us a bunch of options which included red tuna, tiger eye, foie gras!, fresh uni, and sea bass. Small restaurant with a cool rock n roll vibe. The chef definitely knows what he’s doing, and his passion for fresh seafood shows in every dish he creates. I will definitely be coming back a lot!
