I take my friends from out of town to have dinner at the library. The food is always quite good and probably this is the most consistent place in town. It seems they try hard to accommodate everyone’s likes, and pull it off. Sundays they have a brunch which is awesome and the place fills up fast. I go there often.

Great live music most evenings. Tonight’s duo is guitar and violin — nice jazz combination. Drinking 2002 Taylor Fladgate. What a way to end my enjoyable stay in Nelson.

This is our first visit to Nelson and having read a bit of the history knew we wanted to find time to visit The Hume, the place is wonderfuly restored and The Library Lounge seemed the perfect spot for an intimate drink and appy. There were lots of locals, who might have been regulars based on the conversations overheard, is always a good sign. Service was friendly, informative and prompt. The drinks were good with the martini being served super cold(yeah), we tried the coconut prawns which were good, not great; the crab and artichoke dip which was tasty and well balanced and the calamari which was exceptional — so light and flaky and tge aioli was deliciuos making you want to have more with every.

Pepperoni pizza review, one bite 1 – 10 rating by the common man for the common man This was overall good bar pizza, cheese was perfect only thing I didn’t like was the thick pepperoni under the cheese, So one bite, 1 – 10 rating here we go they got a 7.7 Best bar in town, heck it’s the best bar/pub/club in the kootenays and maybe even in the entire province of bc.

We decided to eat at the Library Lounge since we were staying in the Hume Hotel and didn’t feel like going too far after our long drive. That said, we really enjoyed it! I got a veggie bean burrito and it came with a Caesar salad and rice. The burrito itself was substantial and topped with sour cream and salsa. It was perfect. My husband got the fish and chips which also came with a salad. Several times throughout our meal he commented how good it was. And I stole a few fries… they were delicious! Super thick cut with a perfectly crisp outside. We didn’t have room for dessert, but definitely plan to go back to try the pear ginger crisp… a. so stay tuned for a review of that… The atmosphere was also great. Fast service, live jazz music, and we sat right in front of the fire place. It was a great way to start our vacation.

We came here for drinks after having supper somewhere else. The service was good & fast. The waitress was polite. Love the live jazz music. The environment is fabulous, more for mature people and not the club type which is what my husband & I were looking for. Ideal for a romantic date in Nelson area.

The Library is in the Hume Hotel which is owned and run by the Martin family. and as chris d. says it’s a Nelson institution. The Library is a comfortable place to meet, have a drink, snacks or a lunch and dinner. I like the restaurant just across the hall and also the bar, just up the stairs. The atmosphere is great and the food is consistently good. For those visiting Nelson, you want to try the Hume hotel for something whether just a drink, a meal or taking in a performance in the Spirit Bar,.

I had a decent experience here. The bartender was friendly, and I liked the jazz music. However, I expected more from my Salmon — it was dry and not flavorful. A fellow diner and I agreed that it seemed a bit overpriced for what you receive.

We often go here for a nightcap and dessert. The turtle cheese cake and also the fruit crumble are amazing. If you’ve got the munchies for something salty there are also great appies.

The Hume Hotel is a Nelson institution, est. 1898, and renovated many times through its existence. The Library is a relaxed, adult-orientated bar, with the same menu as the attached pub and family restaurant in the same hotel. Suited primarily for couples or small groups(large parties would not fit in), the Library has a great choice of standard N. Am favourites, and satisfies the soul, if not the adventurous spirit. In other words: it does the basics well, but doesn’t offer anything new or different. This is NOT a chain-style offer, but still runs through the bistro-bar classics from salad bar, nachos, pot stickers and wings to mains of ribs, burgers, fish and chips, pasta and meat and two veg, and onto a fair display of desserts which will include everything you expect from a mainstream, though independent, hotel. The food is good, not amazing, but, to be fair, they aren’t aiming for the latter. They cater, very well, for the masses. Service is generally excellent; prices reasonable; atmosphere pretty good for a small-town independent operation. Food: you’ve seen it all before, but this place has bags more authenticity than a White Spot, and you get some live laid-back jazz or country-folk music thrown in as well, and it’s as good as it gets in the mainstream vein for little old Nelson.
