The haddock and chips totally exceeded the expectations I had. The service was great and the food was even better.

Went all out and had the two piece halibut with chips. Fish was nicely fried, chips were solid. I found the fountain pop to be a little punched out. They are also quite reserved when it came to the lemon. My request for extra lemon netted precisely one additional small slice.

Stopped in randomly for a quick lunch today and I’m really glad I did! I had the curry chicken pie(yes I was surprised to see curry on the menu) and it was better then I expected. I felt like perhaps I was being a little brave in my ordering but it did not disappoint! The pie was so fluffy and tender and the chicken curry inside was delicious! I’m not sure what was in the sauce they give you on the side but it almost tasted like an Indian chai tea and it was one of the best dips I’ve ever had! I even dipped my husband’s fries in it. I also ordered the cod fish and chips(I had to at least try it of course) to split with my husband and well let’s just say it tasted better then it looked, which in my opinion isn’t a bad thing. I mean it comes out in a «diner» type basket as you’d expect and it just looks kind of sad haha BUT it tasted great! The fish was perfectly cooked and«melt in your mouth» and the fries were good too(especially in that dip!). The atmosphere could use a little updating and freshening up but honestly it’s what you’d expect from a fish and chip joint that’s been around so long. It’s the kind of place you go to for the food, not the aesthetics… Which makes it a-ok in my books! I will definitely return for more curry pot pie. Oh and I must try that deep fried mars bar!

I’m really glad that I finally stopped in to try this place out. I’ve had a craving for Fish & Chips lately, but hadn’t gone for it in so long, that I really wasn’t sure where to go anymore. It’s rare that I find myself downtown these days, but that’s where I was on Friday. We had the option to struggle with rush hour, or sit somewhere for a bit. As we drove by 116 street, the answer became clear. Finally, I could crush this craving. It was still pretty early — we arrived just after 4 pm on a Friday. There was one other customer in the place when we go there(it filled up with a party of 10 and two other tables of two while we were there). I was taken aback by two things when ordering(you order at the counter, then sit and they bring your food out to you). 1) The prices seemed really high — $ 17.00 for 2 pc Cod & Chips. This does not include a drink or coleslaw. Once the food came out, I could see the value and would happily pay this price again. and 2) Since you’re paying when you order, you are tipping without having tried the food, and the service at the counter was fairly cold. We both ordered 2 pc Cod & Chips and a fountain pop(you serve yourself) and the total came to over $ 40.00. After going to their website today, I see that you have the option to get a «full meal» for $ 20.00 which would have included the drink and a side — which is a great deal since the sides are $ 2.00 each and I believe the fountain pop was $ 2.85. If that option was on the chalkboard menu, I missed it — it would have been nice if the cashier had offered it. Turned out… the fish was so big, it was not an issue to not have a side. Seriously… the fish is HUGE. I understand the prices a bit now. I definitely only needed to order a one peice, but it was nice to be able to take the other one home and eat it later(especially since dinner was so early!). The fish tasted very fresh. there was no «fishy» taste at all. The batter was light, but crispy and the fries were absolutely perfect. Parking is Free, but the lot can be pretty crowded. I also just discovered that they have a second location on the southside! SCORE!

Train your staff to deal with debit machine issues. Including calling the customer service lines with the debit machine companies when there are issues. Very frustrating to your customers and shows your lack of concern for your patrons.

One of the best fish and chips places i’ve been able to find in Edmonton, and I order them whenever I see them on a menu! They even have a great gluten-free batter. The place seems to be under new management but i’m glad they haven’t seemed to change any of the recipes. Nice, crispy batter, not too greasy, fresh cut fries, and homemade tartar sauce. And they leave the bottle on the tables so there’s no charging you for extra, which is great for someone like me that puts tartar sauce on her fries too! The food comes out quickly and there’s a large variety of items on the menu. It’s slightly on the expensive side but for the quality, i’ll take it!

Yay! Was craving something British during this American’s week in Canada. Ordered the family platter of haddock which feed 5 adults with the 8 piece fish, chips and 4 sides(loved the mushy peas)! The fish were 8 inches long and had a perfect beer batter. The chips were nice and thick and a dab of malt vinegar completed the wonderful meal. Did not disappoint and met the cravings! Husband ordered the fried haggis patty… yuck but marked it off the weird food list finally!

This place isn’t healthy but they don’t claim to be and they are great at what they do! No matter when you go this place is always busy, yet you will always get your food fast and fresh. This is especially great if you come on your lunch break, being in the downtown core, some places can’t handle busy lunch rushes but at Brit’s you will always get your food pretty quickly! Generous portions and great value for your dollar, they also offer a kids menu and gluten free options. Pop is self serve, which means free refills! Also, the coleslaw here is yummy!

Excellent fish & chips here. We come here because they offer a gluten-free batter which is actually quite good. They have a wide variety of fish for you to choose from at different price points. The place is simple and casual. Pay for your food at the counter and it is usually delivered to your table with 5 – 10 mins tops. They have alcohol bevvies, bottled drinks and fountain drinks. Lots of different sides to choose from and few choices for dessert. It isn’t a fancy place but the food and service are good and it winds points with its good gluten free batter!

We recently had take out fish and chips from Brits, and although tasty, it was really pricey compared to other places. I’m not sure that it was that much better in terms of taste or quality to justify the cost. We had two one piece fish and chip meals, and a tiny side of mushy peas for $ 38. I would have expected $ 25 to be a reasonable price. As mentioned, the food was good, but not exceptional. The mushy peas were as expected, and a nice treat. The service for takeout was fairly quick, we had our food within 15 mins.

Fun little place! quirky and delicious. They keep it simple with no surprises. The price is good and the atmosphere casual. If fish’n’chips is what you’re after this is your spot. Located in Oliver.

I’m so happy to see that this restaurant has a gluten-free option for their food. I’m Celiac, so this may not be the best place(where other items are made with flour) but I’ve had food there twice with no issues. I haven’t had fish and chips like this for years and years. Thank you Brits!

This place is ok. The food here is great! And I can understand that the prices on the fish are high because the quality is there. It probably not expected because the décor could be better. Not much to say about service, pay up front and they bring the stuff to you. On the negative side which brings the score down was ticket times were just insane. It be ok ticket times for a fine dining restaurant but seriously 30+ mins for fish and chips… need I need to continue on that point. Overall its okay

A one piece with a pop/tea/coffee, chips and a side is very reasonably priced as the portions are huge. The batter is crispy and fresh and nice and greasy, just the way I like my fish and chips. I had the mushy peas as my side and with a bit of salt they were delicious. Overall, a good little fish and chips place that is reasonably priced.

Gluten Free Goodness available here! Be sure to visit the location on 104 Ave &116 St. I crave their food once in a while… which is good, because it tastes so good I’d eat way to much of it, way too often. NEWS Bulletin! Now carrying Deep Fried Gluten Free Mars BARS! Be sure to share it — it’s a lot to eat alone! The fish portion here is HUGE. Don’t order too many pieces… or maybe DO. It reheats in the toaster oven the next day. The onion rings are fantastic — and reheat perfectly. Batter is CRISPY tasty almost tempura. If you want gooey battered fish, this isn’t the place for you. No reservations here, order at the counter. Licenced, and there is some beers on tap as well. Décor… uh, it’s diner meets hotel chairs, meets food court-ish. I don’t come here for the ambiance. The menu and choices are ginormous… you can stand there for a while. There’s even a family meal. Take out is possible, but the fish is really at it’s best eaten fresh right out of the fryer. Meal for two at supper –Two pieces of fish, chips & a serving of onion rings with one shared beverage and tip is around $ 37.

It’s greasy, it’s completely unhealthy, but I love it. This place is the closest thing you’ll get to proper English fish and chips in Edmonton. I was born and raised in England and have spent half of my life there, shuttling back and forth between Hull and Edmonton, so I’m cashing in on my authority! I’ve spent many a day on the British coast, from Scarborough to Hornsea. :) In any case, this is a great little shop. Try the haddock(I can’t abide cod) with tartar sauce — the fish is flaky and the batter is fresh. Their chips are just lovely: thick cut and extremely flavourful. The mushy peas are alright, although much thicker than back home and with much less salt(I love my salt). If you’re a fan of England’s curry sauces, though, I wouldn’t recommend Brits’ version. It has a funny aftertaste that just doesn’t go well with the chips. Everything else is fantastic. The service, the food, the atmosphere. And oh, the options. Cornish pasties! Pickled eggs! Steak and kidney pie! It brings me back home, it does.

It’s never been cheap here, but I don’t care. This is probably the best fish and chips in the city and the menu is filled with chip shop staples, 5 or 6 different types of fish, but I generally get cod and chips with mushy peas and a tea. Today, I decided to get my regular order plus a seafood chowder which was good, albeit a tad undercooked. It’s a rare treat, but my companion and I had just left the gym and were really hungry. I’ve never had a deep fried Mars bar, but they have it on the menu. There are complaints on here about the place needing a good clean, but compared to most chip shops I’ve been in, this place is immaculate. Most places I’ve been to don’t even bother with chairs… strictly take away. Granted, it’s not the cleanest restaurant, but you know, 95% of the menu is deep fried.

My liver probably hates me for it, but this place is awesome for several reasons: 1. Gluten-free batter! 2. Generous portions/reasonable prices 3. A neat atmosphere 3. Self-serve unlimited fountain pop 4. Did I mention the gluten-free batter??! I don’t come here to be healthy, and deep-fried stuff has almost totally been of my list of things to eat, since I can’t have gluten. But here, I had battered cod, pickles, and pineapples! My gawd… it was amazing! Yes, I also had to do a major detox after, but it was worth it!

I had one piece of Halibut with Chips and Coleslaw, nothing to drink: total for bill $ 16.65. Definitely on the expensive side. The halibut was nicely deep fried, the coating is very tempura-like. Coleslaw good and chips good. Negatives: cost is expensive, place needs a really good cleaning — just about everything in the place is covered in grease and things like the salt and pepper shakers very sticky from not being cleaned. Service not vey good. As well, I just abhor a restaurant with carpet which is a great repository of filth and can never be cleaned. I am actually surprised that Alberta Health as in Environmental Health allows a place such as a fish and chip joint to have carpets.

Brits Fish & Chips definitely had that British feel and the little optional bar stool area by the window with fireplace totally reminded me of my trip to England. It’s an order and pay at the counter kind of place — then seat yourself. Beverages you fill yourself, too. They also have a variety of imported British soft drinks. This was our first trip to Brits and it took me about 5 minutes to figure out what to order… Unfortunately, they were out of few things on their menu at the time. You can order Fish by itself, Fish ‘n Chips, Full Meal Deals which include Fish ‘n Chips and a side of your choice and beverage and the list goes on from there. Price depends on which level(there are 6 varieties/prices) of fish you are purchasing… Ranging from Basa, Cod, Hadock, ???, ???, Halibut(Sorry can’t remember # 4& # 5). We started our meal with a hearty Bowl of fish chowder soup — $ 4.95 Creamy — almost buttery — with large chunks of white fish, carrots, peas, & corn. I didn’t see any clam items on their menu. The bowl was hearty enough to share with my hubby as an appetizer and came with choice of roll or two slices of bread with butter. For entrees my toddler had a 1 piece of cod fish ‘n chips for $ 6.95 that came with a juice box. My husband had a 1 piece of Haddock fish ‘n chip and I had a 1 piece of Halibut fish ‘n chips. My husband preferred the Haddock of all three — very buttery flavor and soft. I enjoyed the firmness of the Halibut. We each had a bit of our toddler’s Cod as she wasn’t too into… Pretty bland and flavorless. Definitely worth the few dollars in price upcharge to get Haddock or better. We had WAY too many french fries between the 3 of us… Unless you love french fries I think it would suffice for a couple to share a 2 or 3 piece fish ‘n chips and an appetizer or bowl of fish chowder. The table had both malt and white vinegar(which I appreciate) as well as tartar sauce and seafood sauce they brought out to us, salt & pepper, the usual. The food was quick and cooked to order — everything tasted really fresh and the fries were obviously fresh cut and homemade — not frozen! They don’t come salted — so add your own to taste! Overall, we’d give their food 3 stars — but the atmosphere and service brought it up to 4 stars overall. The server we had today was quirky — a guy in his mid 20’s with a sweater vest and a bowtie — he was very informative and gave suggestions for the menu depending on our likes and dislikes. He even brought out a coloring book and crayons for our toddler. As we were leaving we had accidentally left her sippy cup on the table and he came running out to the parking lot with it — great chap! 1 Kids entrée, 2 adult 1 piece of fish ‘n chips, and 1 bowl of soup came to $ 40 with tip… Still a little steep in price but I did order Halibut for one of the adult meals which is the most expensive fish on their menu. They had 6 levels of prices when it came to fish ranging from Basa to Halibut. *I’ve uploaded pics of the food!*
