I was going to try this place and never got around to it but the other day heard their radio ad for fish and chips and steak and kidney pie. Feeling a bit peckish for steak and kidney i headed over to peruse their wares. I ordered 1 piece cod and chips meal and a steak and kidney pie and coffee . They have a couple of types of pies, steak and kidney and beef and cheese . They aren’t on the menu so you have to ask. They have merged with a guy who is known as the ‘pie man’ it seems . The pies are about the size of a standard grocery store swansons meat pie with the foil plate included. The steak and kidney pie was very tasty but could have used more filling. It wouldn’t be a meal in itself. The fish and chips were good with the fish being very flaky and tender with a thin slightly crunchy crust. The fries were thick cut with very soft middle and lightly browned. Comes with a small fish shaped ceramic cup full of decent tartar sauce. Funny though that the tartar sauces of all the fish places i’ve been to in edmonton don’t seem to have dill pickle relish in them which when i make it at home is a prerequisite. They have good coffee . Service was good with very friendly waiter who may have been the owner. Prices are about the same as the other non-chain fish and chip shops in town.

The fish and chips where alright, but they the texture was off they should be crispy not soft and soggy. Just wish the were crispy. Another issue is that they didn’t include any tarter sauce with the 4 orders of fish and chips I ordered, they only included ketchup lots of ketchup.

The food is still awesome under the new owners. They have redecorated and the tea towels are on the tables on top of a different provincial tartan for each table. I’m very impressed.

My friend and I were at Southgate Mall and wanted to grab a quick bite to eat. I found out that Sir Winston’s was about 3 minutes away from the mall so we headed there. Fish and chips had been on my list of cravings for awhile, too! It’s located in a strip mall shopping area and was fairly easy to find. The restaurant itself is very casual with a bit of a homey atmosphere. Their menu features a lot of deep fried goodness, from appetizers, to fish and chips, and even dessert(deep fried Mars bar). There are 4 types of fish to choose from: atlantic cod, atlantic haddock, pacific salmon, and pacific halibut, all 4 oz each. During my trip, I found the service to be lacking. Both our water and food took awhile to come out. The table beside us received their fish & chips first when we had ordered before them. Of course I didn’t let this affect my taste of the food though! I ordered 1 piece of the atlantic cod, which is one of the more common types of fish used. The piece was huge and delicious. The batter was light and crispy while the fish tasted fresh. But the fries? I was surprised at the small portion of it when my plate arrived. It appeared equivalent to a kids meal. They were just average fries too, nothing worth noting. My friend had a piece of the pacific salmon with a baked potato. He was surprised at the small portion of his meal. His fish was decently big though. The baked potato only came with sour cream and butter. For now, I’ll be going to other fish and chips eateries in the city to see how they compare. The prices were reasonable and the fish was delicious but I was quite disappointed by their sides. «Chips» do make up half of the meal!

I absolutely love this place. Their fish is delicious, crispy on the outside and flaky on the inside. The chips are pretty standard, but tasty nonetheless. I was in a few weeks ago with my partner and I had the Cod and Chips and she had the Salmon and chips. Everything was served hot and the taste was spot on. Our server was quite young, mid teens, but she did her best. I would’ve liked her to be a bit more attentive, we had to flag her down for drink refills. Other than that the service was good. If you want great fish and chips at a reasonable price, give this place a try.

Ew. That about sums up the food at this place. Looked great, loved the British theme inside, but the fish was over battered and thick, leading to uncooked batter on the inside. The chips tasted like nothing and were all one texture, rather than the crunchy outside/soft inside they should be. The malt vinegar literally tasted like nothing, smelled like nothing and I smelled the white vinegar and it was exactly the same. My husband said the exact same thing about the vinegar, so I know it wasn’t just me. I thought this would be a great experience but I was really disappointed.

I came here for the fish and stayed for the fish! Tasty, nicely battered and enjoyable. I got both the halibut and the haddock. The halibut was $ 24 for two pieces while the haddock was $ 16. I can tell you if you want an amazing fish and chips go the more expensive way with the halibut. Large pieces and filling, I might recommend getting 1 piece with the chips and a side. The chips themselves were very uninspiring. Seems like they were straight out of the frozen food aisle. Maybe that’s how British people eat them? Pros: Lots of free parking Tasty fish and chips Good Service Why didn’t it get 5 stars: A bit pricey. The atmosphere was a little off.

Friendly people. Underwhelming fish and chips. If you’ve ever lived in a place where fish and chips are done well, then I’d give Sir Winston’s a pass if I were you.

This place is a hidden gem!!! Prices are great. Service is fast and friendly. The place itself is pretty big but its cosy. Fish is AMAZING(coming from someone who is very hesitant about eating fish). Coconut shrimp and deep fried halibut are must trys. Food isnt greasy at all considering its deep fried! Love this place :) it will become one of our regular restaurants!

Super good super large pieces of fish. Highly recommend for authentic fish and chips without that heavy greasy feel

I used to love this place for it’s reasonable prices and large portions, but they have raised their prices on every single menu item($ 2 for a can of pop that does not even come with a glass of ice) and cut down the portion sizes tremendously. After seeing the new menu prices we debated leaving without ordering, but thought we would try. I absolutely wish we had gone somewhere else. The fish portion was large, but very bland. The very small handful of fries were very overcooked and dry. I know our society as a rule are overeaters, but the portion size was not worth the price at all. Lots of decorating, but no ambiance whatsoever. The bathroom is falling apart. The staff is very mediocre, nothing warm and friendly whatsoever about the experience. This was our last visit to this particular place. Protip: If you’re experiencing financial difficulty in your restaurant, you should probably try to keep what customers you have instead of expecting them to carry the weight of all of the people NOT eating there.

Fairly disappointing. I was looking forward to some fish & chips. My wife dislikes any kind of sea-food, so I don’t get to hit up many restaurants that specialize in the cuisine. And hey, my wife wasn’t with me this evening, so let’s get me some fish & chips. The menu seemed promising. The appetizer menu was impressively large, but I knew I wouldn’t be able to eat that much food so I didn’t order anything from there. As for the main course… you can choose different types of fish which is a great idea. The fish itself wasn’t bad, nothing I would rave about either. You could defiantly tell it had come from a freezer… but not soggy and gross. I was not a fan of the batter though. The batter wasn’t thick — actually rather thin coating — and it seemed to be inconsistently coated. And the batter was almost too crunchy, maybe it was the thinner coated spots that were the problem. There were only 6 people in the restaurant, yet my fries were cool and hard. If you can’t be bothered to have the time to make fresh chips at a slow time, you may have to rethink if you want to be in the restaurant business. In the end I think I’ve had better fish & chips at corporate restaurants, so I probably wouldn’t go back. But maybe I just hit them on a bad day.

Good value, big pieces of fish and a good serve of chips. I only had take away but the venue seemed pleasant enough. Really this is what fish and chips should be.

Probably the best fish & chips I’ve ever had, especially as take-out. The fish was battered perfectly and cooked to perfection. The two pieces of fish barely fit inside the 8″ square clamshell. My only complaint: the 1 oz of tartar sauce included by default wasn’t enough… but that would have been easily solved if I had known and had asked for more. Service: exceptional. Will be back soon!

Come hungry and be sure to get the halibut! This is the best chippy in town, hands down. If you are not into the battered fish, you can get pan fried fish as well. You will leave feeling full, but not greasy.

I really like fish and chips and although this place had all the credentials it just didn’t make it. It is located in a strip mall and is a bit of a dive. For me this is actually encouraging as I have found that if a place can last with no ambiance it is either dirt cheap or has good food. When entering you are surrounded by British posters in a large open space, but the furniture and flooring has seen much better times. This is obviously a family run business and you get to meet most of them during your visit. Service was good and the food was ready in a very short time. First thing you notice is the HUGE portions of fish, so crispy you can’t wait to dig in. The second is the chips… they served frozen fries which brings pain to my heart. The fish was OK, light and flaky but i’ve had better. The fries still haunt me.
