My boyfriend and I stumbled across this place, and it became the best part of our date that day. The employees are very knowledgable and let us try many different cheeses as well as introducing us to ones we wouldn’t have thought to try. They Carry COWS(PEI) cheese and butter which is just a godsend. The prices for the parmesan and applewood smoked cheddar were really fair and not much more than Safeway(my boyfriend and I were expecting a big price tag), but the quality is way, way better than what you will get at a chain grocery store. Give this place a visit, and take your time. It is well worth the visit.

Everything at Janice Beatons is Delish. I’m always trying something new when I go and have never been disappointed. My absolute fav is the dauphin Brie. The cheeses can be a little pricy but well worth it.

The best cheese shop around when you’re looking for gourmet cheese. The kind of shop where each cheese has extensive tasting notes, and the clerk knows if the milk used for this batch was from summer pasturing or not. They are happy to let you taste a bunch of them too on your quest for the one that’s just right for the occasion. In addition to cheese, they carry some charcuterie items, as well as crackers and spreads of various description.

My cheese knowledge ends at the fact that I like to eat cheese and can pronounce gouda correctly. So I needed to supply a cheese board for a dinner we were attending in 15 mins. I walked into the shop, which is nestled behind Farm. There is no prepackaged pick and go cheese here, you need to talk to the experts behind the counter. I told her I was supposed to supply a cheese board, wanted three cheeses and it was for 4 people. Then BOOM, she was asking what I liked, picking out the perfect amount of portions for each cheese and giving me tips that I felt I could then spew out later during a game of Trivial Pursuit. I also appreciated her showing me how much each cheese cost per gram as she recommended them to me. Amazing customer service, she was very friendly and we chatted about the terrible weather and eyelashes freezing to our faces, while someone else was being rung through the till. My entire venture took me 5 mins, which was perfect as the man was out back with the car running. Thanks Janice Beaton Fine Cheese, you rock!

Adorable little cheese shop attached to the restaurant Farm. There are some delicious cheeses available to purchase as well as homemade chocolates and ice cream. It’s unfortunate that they don’t offer samples of all the cheeses, this is why this place gets 4 stars instead of five, but the staff are quite friendly and ready to share their knowledge about cheese with you. If you dine at Farm before you go here you will get 10% off your purchase.

I scream, you scream, we all scream for… grilled cheese? Well, it contains a milk product at any rate. I decided that supper yesterday would be a grilled cheese sandwich from the ever talked about Janice Beaton located just behind Farm on 17th Ave. I walked in around 530 on a Saturday to find a lineup of folks in front of me ordering their evening cheeses. It was about a 10 minute wait for the gals to serve the 4 or 5 folks in front of me, but they served them well, offering samples of cheeses and suggestions to make sure they went home with just the right slices. I ordered the first sandwich on the menu, a ham and cheese. Sounds kind of plain, right? Well, just imagine maple pepper ham, Gruyère, greens, mayonnaise and sun dried tomato tapenade. Doesn’t sound so boring now, does it? The sandwich itself had been pre-prepared, so all it needed was to be taken out of the cooler and put on the sandwich grill. That was the the cheesiest, tastiest grilled cheese sammy I’ve had. Unilocaler’s honour. There was so much cheese, it came stringing out when I tried to pulled the two halves apart. And that tapenade? Oh me oh my, talk about adding another flavour dimension to an already solid classic. And only foe $ 7.50! Go. Go now. There’s a grilled cheese sandwich just waiting to fill your belly.

Oh man, I love cheese. I love it a lot. I like different varieties and textures and sampling the strengths and flavours. And ok, yes, Janice Beaton is a little pricey. But they import cheeses from across the world, and let you sample them too so it’s a little hard to be picky. I always try before I buy, which I learned from cold hard experience(not everyone prefers the same cheeses). This is where I go for my cheese fix. The staff are great bout recommending pairings, and the store is just full of delicious, from smell to taste to eye candy(eye cheese?).

Janice Beaton has any type of cheese you’re after. They’ve got everything from 8-year-old cheddar to apple-smoked cheddar to crazy cheeses I can’t pronounce from places like France, Switzerland and Quebec. They even had some type of white cheese covered in black mold which the guy told me is quite popular. I didn’t try that one, but they do let you sample their wares before deciding on what cheese you want. The staff are real cheese-heads and know their stuff. Although they’re always friendly and helpful, they don’t have that underwater cheese I’ve heard about. The one where the guy drops a cheese wheel off a boat into the ocean for a few years and then comes and gets it and it tastes like the best cheese you’ve ever had. The guy at Janice Beaton tells me it’s hard to get the food inspectors to give it approval because they need to see it as it ages in different stages. But I bet if you had the money, they’d probably be able to put you in touch with the water-cheese man. But other than that, these guys have everything you’re looking for.
