I love this place!!! The food is absolutely delicious!!! The service and ambiance are just ok, but I go for the food, or order take-out. The korma is to die for!!! Quick tip, they always have coupons on their website :) Also, they have changed ownership(but not kitchen staff), so they are now called Bombay Beat…

3.5 stars. The $ 10.50 for the lunch buffet was a surprisingly tasty meal with good value. I have been for dinner too and the curries are always reliable. Not the best Indian food I have tried, but definitely good enough for the price. There were about 8 curries, pakoras, salad, rice, complimentary naan brought fresh to your table, fruit, dessert, I really enjoyed the chana masala(chick pea curry), mixed vegetable curry, saag and chicken(spinach). But my favourite was the tandoori chicken and the mango custard(not too sweet, but very creamy, smooth and mango-y, delish!). Please note that although the chicken tandoori was tasty, it consisted of chicken drummettes so it was on the dry side and cutting it with knife was a bit of a joke — should have just double fisted these babies down the gullet: D But the price of acting prim and proper = less tandoori chicken consumed. Recommended for the lunch buffet!

A group of us came here after the movie we wanted to see was sold out and the first restaurant we wanted to go to had a 30 minute wait. My boyfriend came here once a few years ago and absolutely loved it, so we decided to check it out. The restaurant is very nice and clean. We were seated with menus quickly, and were brought glasses of water. After that the service went downhill. When our waitress was taking drink orders, she skipped over me entirely. We managed to catch her attention and I was able to order a Mango Lassi, but I was still insulted a bit. The Mango Lassi was alright but the mango flavor wasn’t very strong. One of our friends ordered an appetizer and he got that relatively quickly, but it took over 50 minutes for us to get our food. People who came in 20 minutes after us got their food before us. Not impressed. As for the food, the flavors were great. I had the Chicken Tikka Masala with garlic naan(cost 50 cents extra) and it was fantastic. My only complaint is that both my boyfriend and I asked for our meals to be super spicy and they definitely were not. We got one of our friends to try it that can’t handle spice at all and she had no problem with either dish. I would not call that super spicy, or even spicy for the matter. Also not impressed. Overall, the food was great, but I wasn’t very impressed with the service.

The service here was great and the food was very tasty. We had naan, tandoori chicken and goat curry. Everything was served fresh and hot and tasted very good. If you are looking for a good Indian recent with good food, atmosphere, service, and prices, then this is a place for you.

A great alternative to waiting in line at Anton’s, if you like Indian food. My shahi paneer was really good, but the gulab jamun was just ok. Service was good and the place is very clean and asthetically pleasing.

First of all this restaurant is not called Bombay Bhel anymore — it is «formally» called Bombay Beat even though all the menus says Bombay Bhel and they have leftovers of Bombay Bhel all over the place. BEWARNED — if you have a gift certificate from Bombah Bhel — this new management will not take it. This is why I am giving it 2 stars. The food was actually enjoyable but after a lovely meal, the waited noticed that we had Bombay Bhel gift certificates(2 x $ 50) and wouldn’t honor them. Even when Bombay Bhel had just sold them to me 2 months ago. They sold them to me know that they were under negotiations to be sold. Not the new management’s fault but given the situation, if they had honored one of them, we might have come back. Based on goodwill, if the restaurant had done something, anything it wouldn’t leave such a bad taste in my mouth. Karma will come back at them

The food is SOOO good! I’ve been here several times, and has now become my FAVORITE indian restaurant. The Garlic Naan is staple, and a must. My husband always gets the butter chicken(he’s a wimp when it comes to spice), which is the best I’ve ever had. And my favorite dish is the Goat Goan Curry. DELISH! My only complaint is the service. It used to be amazing, and the past 2 times I’ve gone, has kind of sucked.

Atmosphere: Classy, clean, upscale without being too pretentious, almost resembled a tapas bar in Yaletown, however, more accessible to the common man without the need or feel of being in an exclusive club. Service: The best service that I have experienced in over a year. Very attentive staff that kept eying our table at peak dinner period to make sure that we were finished, water was refilled and that we weren’t short of any food or needs. Our table was cleaned in the middle of eating to ensure that we had a clean tidy environment to enjoy our food. Every time we ordered a dish, a new place setting was promptly assembled for us. I say proper ’cause unlike most restaurants that just hand the cutlery, they took the extra few seconds to professionally properly laid our the napkins and cutlery. Unlimited chi which was refilled without question, just like you would do in India. Price: Reasonably priced. I had a Groupon, however, you will easily go over as the food is so good. It’s the one time I didn’t feel bad about going over the cost. Food: I can’t say enough about how good the food was. I’ve had home made Indian food and being raised East Indian, I know my food very very well. I’ve been to too many shitty Indian restaurants that pass themselves as decent. Everything on the menu was properly infused with the right spices, made to perfection and was just as good if not better than my mom’s cooking. I judge a good Indian restaurant by the way they serve and make Chi. This was way better than some of the Indian restaurants on Main street. The food tasted as though I was home. The rice was nicely fluffed and all curries were marinated and slow cooked properly to infuse the spices throughout. Side notes: Rarely do I give full 5 stars, however, this place deserved it as well as the large tip left. I was so pleased that I asked my mom to take me on my B-day. I really didn’t want to leave the restaurant it was that good. I wanted to stay there forever and drink chi and syrup infused with saffron. The 5 star experience makes up for the shitty 1 star experience I had at Cottage Bistro earlier in the week.

The flavor of the saag gosht was good but not as spicy as I like my food. karahi gosht was much better than the saag. Both of the dishes had dry chewy lamb meat that stuck in our teethes. We liked the garlic nan though:) that came nice and warm with garlic and herbs. The service was excellent, I like how all the staff members worked together to ensure high quality service. I would not go out of my way to eat there or brag to friends about it, but I would eat there again if I happen to be in the area.

Food was good, décor is nice but service was just ok. They only packed up 2 of our 5 leftover dishes. When we complimented the cook to the owner, the owner told us that he had«imported» the cooks. WTF??? That’s a weird thing to say! I thought we imported goods, not people anymore. Are the cooks his possessions? slaves? He didn’t RECRUIT them from India, he IMPORTED them.

Tasty food, attentive service, spacious and comfortable décor. You’ll enjoy your meal and are likely to encounter the owner, who keeps a close eye out to make sure you’re enjoying your experience. I’ve been there several times and the food makes everyone happy, even my extremely picky vegetarian friend.

For anyone living in the Burnaby Heights area craving good Indian food, Bombay Bhel definitely hits the mark. I shared the shrimp masala and the dal tarka(lentil curry) with a friend and we both really enjoyed each dish(although I preferred the shrimp dish, which was a bit sweeter and spicier, and my friend preferred the lentil dish, which was savory with an amazing coriander flavour). We were there quite early, which likely accounts, in part, for the great(and extremely fast) service that we received, but the staff was very friendly, always kept our water glasses full and immediately tended to any other needs that we had.

A refreshing change from other Indian restaurants. Service was friendly and professional. We had the Bhel poori a an appetizer and have never had anything like it before– I was worried that it wouldn’t be good because it’s a cold dish, but it was delicious. Almost like an indian salad. The shahi paneer was delicious also.

Bombay Bhel may just be my new favourite restaurant… The BEST Naan bread that I’ve ever had — we had to get an extra order. It was so fresh, with just a little butter for flavour. Yummmmm We ordered Butter Chicken and Channa Masala. All the orders come with either Naan or Rice and are on a seperate dish. Both dishes were very tasty. The service is outstanding, the prices are reasonable, the atmosphere is great and the Naan bread will take me back for more! Bombay Bhel is ironically located right beside a popular Italian Restaurant on Hastings Street… however, at Bombay Bhel there was no line up and the food, service and overall experience was MUCH better at Bombay Bhel… so to all those people that LOVE the Italian place next door… skip the line-up and try some Indian next time!

Hidden away on Hastings street is this great little Indian food restaurant. Greeted at the door by the owner, who waited for us to walk up to the door ad opened it for us. Off to a great start in my books! Once inside, we noticed how large the restaurant is and how the waiting area is greatly set up for. .. waiting, and also for take-out, which was our intention that day. We ordered my ‘standard’ meal(I’m vegan and have a few select items that I love to try at any new Indian restaurant) — Naan, Garlic Naan, Pakoras, Chana Masala and a Bartha dish(eggplant). Went for medium spicy on the entrees and it was just right, and I’m not a fan of spices being too hot. The Naan was great, but the Garlic Naan I could have done without — just a personal taste preference as it didn’t seem to go with the other flavours. Both entrees were delicious and distinctly different from each other. The pakoras were very good, but not quite my favourite style of pakora — these were breaded balls as opposed to battered veggies deep fried. The taste was great, though! All in all, the best overall meal I’ve had in a long time, and for $ 35 we had enough for 2. 5 meals, which is always a nice bonus.

the lovely lady at the front desk of the holiday inn recommended this place. figured what kind of human would i be if i came all the way to vancouver and didn’t have some indian food. restaurant was really laid back and relaxed. haven’t had a lot of indian food in my day but now i’m addicted to butter chicken. had about 39 pieces of garlic naan and washed it down with some ice cold indian beer. don’t know why so many people wait in line at the italian place next door when they can come here.

Very decent Indian option. For the two of us we ordered the Mumbai Platter of grilled meats and it was as good as any I have had. We had lentils and nan along with it and they to were very delicious. The service was good, and we had leftovers. All in all very good Indian with good service and ambiance. The drinks menu looked good too. With a beverage each and leftovers we were at around 25/person.

All I remember of my experience at Bombay Bhel is sitting across from me was certainly the belle of the restaurant. So obviously I paid no attention to the food, the ambiance, and what not. What I liked was the restaurant was closing indicated by the chairs placed upside down sitting on the table tops. But the service staff nor managers did not pester us to leave. It’s one of those perfect nights when you can get lost in the conversation and not have it interrupted by angry employees wanting to go home.

I’m not sure how this place was put into the category of «Middle Eastern»… It’s quite Indian. But anyway… I love this place because it’s the only Indian restaurant in Van I know that serves Bhel Puri and Pani Puri. I mean other places sell papdi chaat and things like that, but don’t get much of the former two. The other food there is okay. I didn’t think it was the best or anything. Indian food is Indian food to me… but the bhel is where it’s at! We’ve also had inconsistent mango shakes and lassis when we’ve been, where one time they’ll taste great and other times the flavour is a bit off. Once it tasted like they used old freezer burned ice cream. But anyway, go for the bhel! Don’t know what bhel/pani puri is? Go here and find out!(they’re snack foods by the way…)

Love! Love! Love! This place has it all: beautiful relaxing ambience, attentive staff and great food(at very reasonable prices). If you are in the mood for something spicy and exotic, this place certainly wont disappoint. The menu selection, pay very careful attention here, is large but intensely focused; you do have lots of options(meat or vegan) but everything in it is specialized in the Indian cuisine. I order something different every time I go there and never got let down. I had the traditional butter chicken but went bold on other visits ordering the vegetarian dishes(the cubed eggplant, forgot the name but it’s in there); you have the option of ordering your dish with rice or naan bread. Everyone I have taken there has intensely enjoyed the experience. Be careful when you ask for something spicy(as opposed to mild or medium); you will feel it!(Ordering something spicy is ideal if you have blocked sinuses… the peppers will clear out your air passages). I highly recommend this restaurant for every occassion.
