Good place! Good prices, good selection of spirits, and super nice bartenders. The only thing I don’t really like is the seating /layout. Other than that, this place is great. Such kind staff!

Gather round, ye scurvy dawgs! This ‘ere review be somein’ wort’ ye readin’. The Grand Hotel on Hunter and Pitt Sts in Sydney is a brilliant venue for the seafarer and the city slicker. Shipyard ropes and oceanic scenes adorn the walls and pillars. Abundant seating and a reputably brilliant top floor will lure me back to this bar, possibly for a feed next time. World class puns: «Do KNOT enter» across a staff only door. Stumbling distance from Wynyard or the Quay the Grand is accessible and«future drunk Josh» friendly. The bartenders are friendly, but should be forced to dress and act within the theme of the venue or else walk the plank. Take a pint and let the sunlight ease the pains of the week that was, as you prepare for the weekend that will be.

tl;dr Tucked slightly out of the way on from Pitt and George Sts, the Grand Hotel offers a solid, suburban pub atmosphere, which is refreshing for a CBD venue. I’ve calculated that in the past 3 months, I’ve walked past the Grand Hotel roughly 102.85 times(it’s a calculated averages of course). Yet I had never thought to head across road from work to check it out — till last night of course. After exhausting our own venue’s bar, we moved on to the Grand Hotel for a few more beers. Not quite on George and Hunter and not quite Pitt and Hunter, it’s a place most people probably would miss. It supplies the few and simple essential elements of a solid pub — the right amount of lighting, the right amount of music nondescript in the background and the right range of beers to choose from. Offering the full James Squire range, most drinks are around the $ 7-$ 9 range, making it slightly cheaper than normal for a CBD spot. The crowd it pulls are amicable and the staff friendly; it’s not crowded and there’s enough room to breathe and have a solid conversation. I’d say I won’t be surprised if I’m soon a regular here according to me Unilocal check ins.

You wouldn’t really know this place was there. It’s on Hunter street and I’m sure I’ve walked by heaps of time. My coworkers and I came here on Friday night for a beer. There’s a cool upstairs bar and they serve James Squire Beers. Good mix of people, and as my coworkers says, less of a sausage fest than your typical CBD bar.
