Star Bar is a very average bar/night club in the Sydney CBD. It has pool tables down stairs and a pretty average night club up stairs. It is usually full of just turned 18 year olds and I don’t know about you but I find these people insufferable! The drinks are cheap, hence the youngsters and the food is average.

My usual hangout place on Fridays. Good ambiance, good service, Pool tables. I’m new to this game but good enjoyment over couple of beers with friends. I like their sweet potato chips with draft Kirin jug. Goes well with good company !!! Only issue is music they play is much louder for area and not good speaker system.

Not the fanciest place in Sydney, its more a place to grab a few drinks while chewing on something from the bar menu. They have two floors, where upstairs is more restaurant like and downstairs a bar. You can order food from both floors, but they only have a smaller bar menu downstairs. As often here down under you will grab you food by the counter when its ready. They have specials more or less every day, but strange enough its only downstairs. You cant complain on the location since its right on George street, which gives you a perfect spot walking everywhere. This place will probably do best if you start of a night with some«cheap» read non-expensive drinks and a meal if you are hungry. When you are tangy enough, move on to the next venue and enjoy a great night out.

Go upstairs! Really nice restaurant above the bar. Chicken Parmesan was delicious! Prices are very reasonable too!

Star Bar is one of those places you would probably walk past without looking twice. They usually have someone outside with a placard to try and tempt you in to buy what specials they got for the day. The downstairs is basic with a little outdoor area and a pool table. Upstairs has gotten a refurbishment in the past year and a new bistro menu. It’s spacious and large upstairs with a dance floor. The menu begins with prices of about $ 10. Today I opted to try the $ 10 burger. I opted for the Swiss Moo burger. The burger was an Angus beef patty with cheese and caramelised onions on a brioche bun. The burger took 15 minutes to come out which was too long considering the place was pretty empty. The burger was very nice I will give it that. The BBQ sauce added to the combo and the bun was fresh. Service in this place used to be a lot quicker and the menu offered more specials.

Forget planet Hollywood, this new star bar with the face lift over 1 year ago, turned the place into new funky modern bistro. Food is lifting to next level, just perfectly fit for this new establishment. Price slightly more than old place but quality of food is sooo much better! Today we ordered from the menu: capresse salad, color so vibrant. Dry aged rib eye with bone marrow. And also scotch fillet with porcini mushroom sauce Delicious! From weekly special my friends order surf and turf, angus rump with soft shell crab and garlic prawns. Awesome. Dessert: pistachio pannacotta mandarin and raspberry salad. Happy tummy!

After feeling flat and sad about having the reputation as a cheap, nasty spot that people simply just drank and forgot, STARBARGOT A BOOBJOB! Before the boob job, Star Bar looked very dark and dingy, with all these weird American Style cow-boy retro decorations and closed off areas. Now after a huge silicone injection Star Bar has a modern, more feminine look. It looks like they borrowed their silicone look from Dr Justin Hemme’s book of looks. I must say the bar is heaps better now as they relocated the bar from the dingy, dark corner, moving it north and expanding the length of the bar. To pay for this expensive boob job, Star Bar has however had to make some unfortunate changes. Prices are no longer as cheap as they used to be. Gone is the $ 7.95 steak meal. Now the cheapest steak is $ 12.50 and sauce comes as an add-on. Additionally, all other items on the menu are more expensive now with most meals ranging from $ 14 – 25. I suppose, that’s just what happens when you get cosmetic surgery, you look better, get more attention, so you can demand premiums. Service, however, is better now, satisfying the theory that if you look better, you are friendlier? I got a free bowl of mash when the kitchen stuffed up my order. There’s also this Eastern European lady who’s very friendly, really promotes the product and motives staff to give the best service. So although Star Bar is now more expensive following this boob job, I think the shallow cosmetic changes do make me like Star Bar more.

I think this says more about the men in my life than Star Bar… not one but TWO men have taken me here for dates. Ladies and Gentlemen: you can do better! If you’re not on a date however, Star Bar has some good points. Cheap prices, a reliable pub-standard menu(by all accounts, the $ 10 steak is awesome) and plenty of space if you’re in a group. I haven’t been in the downstairs area in years(since the first date incident) but upstairs still has lots of the old Planet Hollywood costumes/movie props… which can be a bit amusing. It’s pretty dark and dingy… the music is cheesy… there’s probably(definitely even) better places nearby with the same prices… but its casual, reliable and totally unpretentious. You could do better… but you could certainly do worse too.

This was apparently the old Planet Hollywood but turned into Star Bar over 10 years ago. It has the look and feel of a PH but a bit more tacky. Came in for a beer after a movie across the road. The place is cool and they had $ 5 budweisers on special. Heard the food menu is pretty decent and cheap too.

So you’re in the city, the BIG smoke… you fancy a schooner and a steak? maybe a game of pool, you could be looking for a happy hour. You may just be on your lunch break. Easily fulfilled requirements my friend. In many Places. However what if you need to see the terminator, the costumes from So I married an Axe Murderer, a table and chairs from what I think was the Alfred Hitchcock classic«the bird» and some mannequins which I at first mistook for teen wolf but then was informed were mock ups of the Charlton Heston Planet of the Apes? Much harder to find née impossible I hear them yell from the peanut gallery. au contraire ! Admittedly your feet can stick to the carpet in some places the TVs are so old they have the 2000 Olympic rings burnt into the corner of each screen. Star Bar has it my friend, Star Bar has it all!

My first experience of stand up in Sydney was through the event that is known as Comedy Court, a weekly event that has the audience judge the comics with an electronic device. No the bad comics aren’t tasered by the electro-empowered audience, but they are able to vote with a remote control. The seating in the comedy room is very comfortable, almost to the point of it being a bad thing.(I can’t remember where I read it, but the more uncomfortable people are the harder they laugh.) Maybe I’m taking the word uncomfortable in the wrong way, perhaps it’s describing social discomfort rather than physical, that would make more sense in the science of laughter. The show is run out of Star Bar, previously Planet Hollywood and the bar still maintains its movie costumes and neon globe. The bar is about as tacky as you would like. The floors are made of velcro it would seem and walking, when in the Star Bar, becomes trudging. After 11pm the dinner tables are moved to the side of the restaurant and a laser show entices all the fresh faced youths to stop talking and start disco boogying. Downstairs is always full of people and for one reason or another I associate this hotel with the concept of just turning eighteen and not knowing what are the good bars and what are the bad bars. The Star Bar is okay for a cheap drink, but it won’t impress everyone.

Probably better as a cheap no cover charge nightclub on a Saturday night as opposed to a place you would want to have lunch at; well it depends on you. Good quality food and great service; however it might be more preferable to head to nearby Darling Harbour or Chinatown as this side of the city has a lot of cheap quality food outlets as it is. On the nightclub side, great cheap drinks; they don’t put too much ice in the midori lemonade’s thank goodness, and it is great to have a few games of pool with complete strangers and make good company if you are game enough to do this here. And their restrooms are quite clean, and there generally aren’t any issues here. People are well behaved and their security guards appear to be switched on and on the ball in case any issues arise. Otherwise this establishment(formerly Planet Hollywood) does not have the wow factor, although a great cheap hang out spot if you want to go out and save at the same time. Think young people and uni students. Great service, however you can also do a lot better on the nightclub front too in nearby Darling Harbour: Clue: home for instance.

The only reason I ever set foot in The Star Bar is because it’s a handy place to meet friends for a mega-cheap glass of wine before a movie. So i’m only ever there fairly early which suits me just fine. The demographic is pretty eclectic but mainly very young and very drunk with the odd derro taking advantage of $ 3 happy hour. I can imagine it gets pretty feral late on weekend nights– as George St is wont to do– so I stay far far away then! I do enjoy sitting in the windows watching the craziness of George St buzz on by, and have always had good service here, it’s just a little young and clubby for me to even contemplate after 10pm.

Star Bar is nothing to write home about. Other than cheap drinks and lots of them, there isn’t much ambiance about the place. Much like the Pavillion Hotel located next door, most people start the night out here because of the discounted drinks. Everything is reasonably priced and entry is free– for girls anyway! I am yet to try the pub food, but have heard it is not bad! Surprisingly, unlike most bars in the city, Star Bar calls for rounds of cheap drinks! It is not a place to impress, but still can be a night of fun!

As well as a hive of cheap drinks, Star Bar also houses a relatively unknown comedy club by the name of the Comedy Court. How do I know this? Well, I performed there during my ill-fated run as a stand-up comic. I say ill-fated, I never actually bombed, but I never actually performed anywhere else apart from here. Shows are held on Friday and Saturday nights and like most amateur comedy clubs, there tends to be a mixed bag of comics ranging from«what the hell was that?» to «oh my god, I just wet myself»(N.B. I was probably closer to the former). It’s also home to the Australian School of Stand Up Comedy, so if you fancy trying your hand at one of the most feared arts but could do with some tips, give it a go! Tickets are around $ 10 for a show, so why not check it out, seeing as your saving a heap of money drinking at Star Bar anyway!

Opposite Event cinemas, which every now and again will have a movie première and invite along a celebrity I hear, is the Star Bar. I’m hoping that the name means that the celebrities will come across the road and have a beer with you after one such première. Not sure about that one, but if you’re looking for a good time with a cool venue, the Star Bar is a great place with a nice theme. A bit more upper-class than your ordinary pub, it can accommodate a more upper-class or important event, or you could just drop in and step up to the bar any old time. A great location too, in the middle of bustling George St where everything is happening. Great location, cool drinkery, nice theme. Like.

It’s a place where one can go on a day when one just wants to go out and dance the night away. Located right in the heart of the city of Sydney on the ever awake George street right opposite Event cinemas is the funky star bar and grill. As you enter inside there is a beautiful décor with a dance floor between the bar counters and a gigantic screen behind the DJs table. The lights are in the shape of stars & planets and make you feel away from the world. Good service and even better music makes you want to come back from time to time. For students it is a good option as there are no entry charges, all you require is a valid proof of identification and a good sense of dressing along with lots of enthusiasm of course!

Chances are if you’re of legal drinking age, you’ve been told to check in on this place for a few rounds of pre-drinks. Star Bar is usually the place you want to go to if you’re pinching at the insides of your pockets, the drinks are THAT cheap. This place is pretty casual for these kinds of get-togethers so don’t be surprised if this forms the beginning of a pub crawl or two. Downstairs has a nice lounging area for groups, with pool tables and flat screen TV’s dotted around the place that make you forget about how dark it’s getting outside. Good thing is if you do happen to overdo it on the pre’s, you can always stumble easily enough to Town Hall station which is right across the road.(No I do not want to be charged for reckless endangerment of people that cross the road stupidly, so cross where you’re supposed to!)

Just like the night sky, there are a handful of Star Bars dotted throughout the city. This one, however, is probably the most well-known. Situated across from Event Cinemas George Street, the building occupies a whole street corner, recognisable mainly by the rotating Earth with red letters spelling out«S-T-A-R B-A-R». When I was first starting out in my nightlife, we would hit Star Bar pretty regularly. The drinks were extremely cheap and it was in close proximity to the cinema, so it made perfect sense to hold the post-movie discussion here. One night, we pulled into the bar after a dinner banquet for a couple of nightcaps. We elected to go to the second level, which even after several years, we had never bothered to enter. The upstairs belies the secret history of Star Bar, which is that the bar is actually a rebranded Planet Hollywood that failed way back when. According to IMDB, there was a Planet Hollywood Sydney Launch TV special aired in 1995, starring Sly Stallone(who also gets a writer’s credit), Bruce Willis, and Danny Glover. Dotted around the walls is old movie memorabilia and the whole décor is reminiscent of a film set(I’m particularly thinking of the temple at the start of Raiders Of The Lost Ark). If memory serves, I’m pretty sure one of the Terminator 2 costumes was in a case up there. We would eventually outgrow Star Bar: some nights, it would be a little too grimy and rundown. Despite that, I’m not going to slam it — I had a lot of fun over the years, primarily as a warm up for the night ahead or a landing spot for a quick one while we figured out the next place to go. Beyond this, climbing those stairs to discover the hidden memorabilia upstairs was a real treat; there aren’t too many other bars offer such bizarre conceptual madness. According to the website, Star Bar has a private 62 seat cinema for rent! Who knew? The bar itself gives no indication of this and the downstairs bar really has nothing to do at all with movies. Why not go the whole hog and deck it out like backstage of a movie set? Star Bar is a place to grab a couple of quick ones while your group assembles. Keep this in mind and it should fit the bill.
