Great fresh seafood, friendly staff, quite reasonable in price for the area. Would definitely recommend.

Great value Japanese food. Being located by the Fish markets, the sashimi and seafood is always fresh.

Relatively cheap and cheerful with good service and tasty food. Nothing out of this world or mind blowing here but everything is done well and shouldn’t hurt your wallet too much unless you’re a cow like me. They offer sushi, don-dishes, curries, organic soda and other standard all-in-one Japanese restaurant fare. Like they say, if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it. The sushi/sashimi is fresh, portions large, and the rice dishes hit the spot. Great for takeout or for eating in for lunch and dinner.

It was my first time trying Kura last night. I just moved to Prymont not long ago, so trying to find the best places to eat. Kura is a small, little restaurant. It is clean and modern which gives it an edge over some of the other japanese places in Pyrmont. My boyfriend and I went to Kura at about 630pm. There weren’t too many people inside and it wasn’t too busy, which is good. I ordered the chicken teriyaki plate and my boyfriend ordered the salmon nigiri with salmon rolls. The chicken teriyaki came with a good size amount of chicken, and a few vegetables. I didn’t order rice as I wasn’t that hungry. The taste of the chicken teriyaki was sweet and salty. It was divine! I loved it! The meat was a bit fatty, they used thigh meat, but that is the part of the chicken I like. The coating of the teriyaki was thick, but it wasn’t too much better, just perfect! My boyfriends nigiri salmon and salmon rolls were fresh and tasted great! The salmon looked vibrant in colour and it was a good serving for $ 15. It was a quick meal for us, as most meals are. It was quick service, easy and no hassle. We will definitely come here again as I really enjoyed my meal. I might come here to actually eat sushi next time. =)

definitely my favorite Japanese spot in Pyrmont. since i live around the corner i’m pretty much at Kura at least once a week. it’s quite the hidden gem right on Harris St. they have a great menu with a large variety of dishes. i tend to go with sushi main, but if i’m in the mood for something hot then definitely the katsu curry. the udon is great and the portions are just right. space is pretty limited inside and outside, so big groups could have issues. other than that it’s a super casual dining experience. Japanese beers and sake are readily available and unlimited green tea.

For those that love traditional hot Japanese food at great value then Kura Japanese is a go. I’ve been going to Kura in Haymarket for years pretty much since I started living in Sydney 10years ago and it’s never disappointed. Yesterday I found another on Harris street and again no just like being at haymarket except with outdoor eating. It’s small and pokey so try to keep it to a single or 2 person eating experience here. The food these guys produce is similar to the small eating wholes that you find in Kyoto and around Tokyo. The most authentic Japanese you will have in Sydney… and I’m not talking about Sushi either… I’m talking about what Japanese people like to eat.

Kura is my fave. Kura for lunch and Kura for dinner was a normal day(before I moved anyway…) Nothing fancy — normal looking — just yummy, fresh, delicious well priced Japanese food tuna tataki aburi kingfish teriyaki salmon big juicy edamame take away or dine in — always good there is a line at lunch but they have a pretty fast system — and there are very few seats so be prepared to get takeaway. Lots of nice parks in Pyrmont to take your Kura to sit and eat in :)

With a couple of outdoor seats and not many more inside, this small Japanese restaurant doesn’t look like much, but when the food comes out you don’t care about that! In an area with a number of Japanese restaurants, you have to do something special to make people come back, and this Masuya has nailed it. I decided on the mixed sashimi don along with a serving of the teriyaki salmon to share. The salmon was delicious if a little sickly with the thick sauce, but the freshness of the sashimi helped compliment this, combining into one fine meal! The service was prompt but not rushed which I always appreciate if I’m not settling in for a marathon meal. I’m all for trying different places, but this place will definitely be getting a visit from me again. Lucky them!
