I first visited Sorrento about ten years ago while wandering down James Street after being drawn in by the charm and witt of the spritely Italian nonna spruiking in the doorway. The woman is a Northbridge institution. I just love her and her energy. Over the years, Sorrento has been my go to place for Italian. It’s simple, hearty, delicious food served with a smile and washed down with reasonably priced wine in an old fashioned setting. It’s perfect for a nice family meal out or a meal with a group of friends because it has a really warm and comfy feeling to it. There is outdoor seating with excellent people-watching opportunities to be had as it’s located in the heart of Northbridge. They even have musicians playing at night on weekends. Pasta is deceptively easy to make but difficult to do exceptionally well and often both expensive and disappointing. Sorrento has never ever disappointed me. In fact, the linguine primavera is so tasty, I am rarely able to move past it on the menu. That said, their half-priced pizza on Mondays is an epic deal. Seriously, just do it. Huge and tasty with a crust to die for. The garlic bread is drool-worthy. I don’t have much of a sweet tooth, but the dessert menu is also very difficult to say no to. Crème brûlée(OMG real custard with a lovely brittle top), panna cotta, tiramisu, sticky date pudding, brandy snaps… do I really need to go on?! Last but not least, the staff are very welcoming and accommodating. They happily split bills, which makes it an awesome place to come with a group, and there is a lot of space. Plus, they’re just plain charming. I love Sorrento Restaurant. 5 out of 5 big happy-customer baci.

The pizzas at Sorrentos are just outstanding, quality toppings, great dough, not too thick and cooked with the perfect amount of bubble and burn, these guys know what they’re doing. Great restaurant

Good Italian food is one of the many wonders of the world. While there are many varieties these days, I do love classic Italian restaurants. Sorrento, on the restaurant strip of James St, is bustling, busy and has that old Italian charm. We popped in for a pre fringe bite. Sharing a garlic pizza bread, a vegetarian pizza and a salad, the food came quick enough — but not so quick it worries me. The pizza base itself was very traditional. That perfect mix of light fluffy crusts, that are just toasted enough, and the centre of the pizza was nice and thin. The toppings were simple, but that was what we wanted. French mushrooms, olives and capsicum with a slight sprinkling of onion, under melted cheese and atop a classic tomato sauce. We sat and watched the traffic go past and the food was served with fresh chillies, rich olive oil and tart balsamic to add as we wished. The pizza bread was loaded with herbs, garlic and tomato. We both added chilli and balsamic to our slices. The additions worked wonderfully with the richness. The garden salad, again simple, just of leaves, cucumber, onion, tomato and capsicum, rounded off the freshness we were looking for with a vegetarian pizza. The service at Sorrento is very relaxed. The waitstaff will chat with you want you want and when time allows, but it’s not in your face and it complements the food and fits with the feel of the restaurant. I am a creature of habit and I can feel this becoming a staple on my easy mid week dinner selection.

I can’t believe I’ve been in Perth 30 years and only just visited this place now. What a great Italian joint. Good price. Good food. Great service. The Calzone and Marinara were both great.

We were greeted by an old italian granny, it felt so homey as she showed us to our table. The staff were very attentive and friendly. We went there on Tuesday, which was a ½ price chili mussels day. The best chili mussels I’ve had in Perth so far. we also had the vegetarian pizza, which was very yummy too. Would come here again.

Perth has a lot of Italian but coming here for Sunday lunch was effortless. A standard array of Italian food was coupled with an above average selection of drinks. I ordered the fish of the day & it met my expectations with an above average salad. The portion size was great for lunch but if having for dinner I recommend an extra side. Summer weather complimented the build of the restaurant with large open areas & outdoor eating. The only negative is a shorter than usual menu with no real seafood options which forced me into ordering the fish of the day rather than having a choice.

Decent Italian food. The barramundi that they had on special was especially tasty. The pasta was about average, and the tiramisu for dessert was very good. Everything was reasonably priced, and overall it was a pleasant meal. Not the best Italian food I’ve ever had, but certainly far from the worst. A solid option overall.

Sorrento does affordable authentic Italian, and it does it with cheeky but good-humoured service. Enjoying a draft Peroni or glass of wine with a bowl of pasta, and watching the world go by as you dine alfresco is a real treat. I’m particularly fond of Tuesday nights in the summer, as a free show is put on by a Jazz trio from WAAPA.

Delicious food. I really like the prawn with the pink sauce for the entrée(i don’t remember the dish name). The pizza is really good as well. The location is perfect if you are interested in night life activities.

Pretty good Italian spot across the bridge from the CBD. The owner was nice enough to recommend that we shouldn’t leave our cell phones out on the table while dining on the patio, as people have been known to run past and snatch them, lovely! We started off with a bacon and Worcestershire sauce topped set of oysters; I have mixed feelings on that dish; while bacon and Worcestershire can usually make anything better, it was a bit strong for the oysters but did not completely mask their natural flavor. There were still some lingering hints of the sea with the aftertaste, I think I would have preferred less sauce and *GASP* less bacon. Next up were some very nicely cooked pork medallions with some slightly overcooked prawns sitting atop. While the pork was fork tender and pretty well seasoned, the shrimp had a bit too much bite too them, but the focus was on the pork and the pork was good. Overall, pretty good, not the most amazing meal every, but good for Australia.

Always packed but quick service and food. They are in a great location, near the cinema but far enough from the lines into the dirnking establishments so you don’t have to put up with druken yobos. The food was good, large serving sizes and fast service. The wine list is pricy and $ 8 for a middy of tap beer isn’t that great. All in all its a good place to eat on james street and would go there again.

I am not a go-to Italian girl, but it seems like when guests are in town Italian is always the agreeably choice. I’ve been to Sorrento’s twice and both times I’ve never complained. I would say that sitting outside is a far-superior choice if you are looking for less noisy and a place to people-watch. Sorrento’s offers daily specials and on certain weeknights have live music. I must admit that the music was loud to even my pseudo-young ears even though the female singer was stellar. She definitely had a cool, bluesy-vibe. Regardless, as a family restaurant, you want to be able to talk to your family and not feel like you are at da’ club. The mushroom risotto is great and their pizza bread is carb-ilicious. Great customer service and I really commend restaurants that have functional websites with correct hours and menus. Bravo!

A good girlfriend of mine’s mother used to cook here and we’d often sit around and sample her divine cooking. She hailed from Abbruzzi in Italy so the food here was very different to what my Sicilian Mum would make at home. We also were lucky to score a lot of free wine! Now, though, I’m not sure what region of Italy the chef is from but the food’s just not like it used to be. Very generous in their serving, sure, but it all kind of looks like I’ve tried it before and — with Sorrento being in the hub of Northbridge dining — I think they ought to be more innovative with in their culinary approach. The wine list is astonishingly long and boasts everything from $ 20 varietals to reserve wines at $ 1200 a pop! So I guess there’s a boutique market they’re aiming for here also. If you’re not of Italian heritage, I’d definitely recommend this place, especially since the pastas are all good(just not adventurous for a fussy boy like me) and all comparitively cheap.

Best Italian fine dining in the heart of Northbridge. Sorrento exudes with Italian charm and truly is a great place to entertain family and friends, or celebrate an anniversary or a family’s achievement. A bit pricey on the end but the food is so worth it!

Offering a range authentic Italian cuisine, Sorrento Restaurant has been a popular place to dine for over 50 years. Located in the heart of Perth’s social suburbs, Sorrento Restaurant has a busy and fun atmosphere, it is not overly dressy and is a great place to spend amongst the crowd for both lunch and dinner. Being massive seafood fans, my girlfriend and I shared three meals between us, I have no idea how we managed to leave a dent in it, but we most certainly did. The meals we had were not the traditional Italian meals yet they were had a secret touch to them that made them super tasty!

OK I learned a lesson here, never open the wine list before you open the menu here, it may leave you running out clutching your wallet. I wonder who comes to Northbridge for a $ 20 meal and pays over $ 1000 for a bottle of wine. The meals on the other hand are good and quite large with plenty of basil, tomato and pesto. I would defintiely recommend coming here during the week or early at the weekends to avoid sitting outside watching drunken hen and stag parties stumble past.

Sorrento is another one of the restaurants along James Street that are always over-flowing with people on a Friday evening. Like its Italian neighbour across the street, and contrary to its neighbour to the left, Sorrento’s pasta dishes stick to the old Italian recipes and ingredients, and don’t venture too far outside the box. This, for me, is a negative, but for every one of me who likes to see something unusual and striking when I look at a menu — something my tastebuds have never come across before — there is someone else who would abhor it, especially when it comes to Italian food. With such run-of-the-mill ingredients, their pasta dishes are inexpensive, as are their pizzas. There is also great value to be found on their wine list, with bottles starting at $ 19. For those looking for something special they also have a reserve wine list, with bottles of this liquid gold going for up to almost $ 1,300! There’s something for everyone here!
