I tried to order a cake and the woman on the phone had such an attitude and a bitchy tone of voice. They were so unaccommodating that I had to cancel. I don’t know why this place is so popular. The food I’ve had there was very average

«Only In Adelaide» Dropped in with my mother just before 4pm today. The young lady serving was sitting on the counter chewing her nails, but smiled at least. When we ordered coffee, she smiled sweetly and said«Oh sorry, I turned the machine off because there weren’t many customers today, it’s actually been quite ‘dead’.» What did you think we were, dear? ONLY. IN. ADELAIDE. **UPDATE12/01/15** Dulwich Bakery’s lovely, polite business owner Wayne got in touch with me and apologised profusely for the behaviour of the staff which prompted my review. His apology has redeemed the place somewhat for me; he even offered coffees on the house on my next visit to apologise and keep my custom. I’ll be taking him up on that kind offer. He was absolutely livid to learn that one of his staff, who are according to him put through their paces regularly with professional retail trainers, would turn off their coffee machine almost 2 hours prior to closing… and has taken steps to ensure it doesn’t happen again. Thanks for that Wayne, mighty big of you. Apathy in hospitality and service is contagious around Adelaide; glad to hear it’s being dealt with at this little bakery, which for me has regained some of its sweetness.

Having lived in the area off and on for the last twenty years or so, I’ve often found excuses to go to this bakery for one of their pies or donuts or apricot crumbles. The food is always delicious and the service is great. The prices are comparable to other bakeries of the same calibre, and in today’s visit, I see they’ve expanded things a bit to make it more of a café as well as a bakery. I like that a lot – it makes eating there a lot easier. Good food, good service and now good café facilities.

For most, if you weren’t a local you wouldn’t know where the Dulwich Bakery was. Nestled in the leafy suburban streets of Dulwich/Toorak Gardens is a small, old fashioned, shopping corner with Newsagent, Supermarket(small, so hardly super), Hair Dressing Salon, Restaurant and the Bakery. Rarely do I pass by and see the adjoining café with a seat free, and generally quite a bit of hob-nob chicky eye candy! I drop in myself about once a fortnight for the odd pie or two. I have always been very happy with the quality and the service is always with a cute smile! I had a Chilli pie last time and it has quite a bit of heat, which made me smile on the inside! Many ‘chilli’ pies I have had at other bakeries are a little tame on the spice, so it is good to see a shop with a bit of guts!

Formerly one of my favorite bakeries, I’ve had a few pies at the Dulwich Bakery lately which have been a bit dodgy. Having said that, on a good day, their chicken and pepper steak pies are fantastic and go down well with a Farmers Union Iced Coffee. They also do mini pies and pasties for parties and I’ve never had a problem with their bread or cakes which have always been fresh and delicious. There are some metal tables out the front which make for a nice setting for lunch or a late breakfast.

My Nanna and I like to dine on coffee and biscuits at the Dulwich Bakery now and then. However I know that she’s there with her gal pals pretty much every morning having bitch sessions and catching up on the current affairs of their grandchildren and how much they dislike the lady living in unit 71. So, why the Dulwich Bakery? It’s nice here for this kind of activity in the summer because there are tables and chairs available out the front. I think their coffee is quite good, I have had better but it’s not something to complain about and the biscuits and cakes are delectable. You can find this bakery just on the corner of the roundabout in the main st. I would quite happily come here every morning with my Nanna if my schedule allowed for it.
