Great place! Have you ever tried their Ginger BBQ Braised Pork Belly? If not, you’re missing out on something special! The décor was nice but not too formal, and the food is well priced. There’s something for each occasion, including conference rooms, a café and general restaurant.

When my cousin told me that his wedding reception would be at the ‘club’ at his uni I was a bit sceptical. Would it be like an RSL? A uni bar replete with sticky floors and rowdy undergrads? A dark basement where the UWA equivalent of the Skull & Bones meet? Would I be kidnapped the night before the wedding to undergo an initiation involving beer and nakedness and blowtorches? Thankfully my fears were allayed when I stepped into the elegantly decorated lobby of the University Club, which wasn’t dissimilar to those of five star hotels. The food was fantastic by wedding standards; impressively the scallops, steak and snapper were all perfectly cooked despite the kitchen having to cater for almost 200 guests. We were spoilt with a double dessert which though delicious, were a bit too rich to finish at the end of a three course meal. Service was impeccable — polite, attentive, efficient and savvy enough to stand quietly at the sides of the room when speeches were happening. If this is what it’s like for a function, I’d be keen to return for a regular a la carte meal. Even if it takes an initiation ceremony to get in.

We’ve been to both The University Club café & bar and the The University Club restaurant. The café and bar is downstairs and more casual and upstairs is more sophisticated. Personally I love the exclusivity of the whole venue. As in, only members and guests of members are allowed in. My favourite aspect is that children are to be seated and not have noisy toys. It’s not that I don’t like children, however, I want to enjoy my meal without a screaming child, one having a tantrum, one running up and down and between the tables and annoying squeaking /rattling toys. There are plenty of child friendly institutions, they are not my first preference to dine for dinner! I haven’t ever seen a child at the University Club :) The food is amazing and there is attention to detail & presentation. The prices are very reasonable because of club fees. The service staff are attentive. Several staff go to one table so everyone at the table is served their meals at the same time, this is awesome! There’s no waiting for the last person’s meal while everyone else’s gets cold. The Club does dinner and movie deals too with their outdoor theatre which is lovely :) They also do some speckie events for special occasions, Christmas, Easter, Valentine’s Day etc. The menus are set and made of many delicious courses; we went to Valentine’s Day dinner and it was really lovely. I would definitely recommend The Club :)

The thing you should know about the UniClub is that you can’t eat there unless you’re a member or are eating with a member. Being a UWA student isn’t enough! The food is solid, they cook their steak well, their meals are mostly interesting and with lunches around $ 16 the price isn’t half bad. The best part about the UniClub is that their wine isn’t overly expensive. The salad bar, which you can get really cheap, is full of awesome and varied salads and I would go as far as it’s the best thing about UniClub. Skip the coffee, since it’s greatly varied. I had an alright coffee there before but today it tasted awful. The tea is solid however and you get 2.5 teacups from a pot. The café is lovely and airy and the service is pleasant but generic. Great place for after work drinks.

I attended a dinner and lecture here last winter. The space is good for conferences and lectures over meals. The food was good.

I never ate or dined here before becoming part of the UWA community. I don’t have membership here and have been here as a guest or for a function in one of their many venue rooms. I’m considering signing up for membership once I graduate and get a real job. So what’s here? A contemporary menu that changes monthly. That’s right through from the offerings in the café and restaurant. I’ve never had the same meal twice although this is due to the infrequent visits. Having said that I’ve not had a bad meal. The menus are available on the website. The wine list is made up of a majority of Australian wines with a light smattering from Europe including France, Italy, and Spain at the moment. The ratio of Australian to International wines is around the 95:5 mark at an estimate. The wine list is also available online. The service is attentive and the staff are polite erring on the side of formality. As a function attendee, parking outside of business hours and teaching periods is the cheapest option, otherwise expect to pay. Parking is incredibly hard to find during teaching periods so unless you’re prepared to find a paid parking spot for a conference by no later than 8:30AM, take public transport. Any other time during the day, dedicate 30 minutes to look for a space but if it’s a lunch time meeting, abandon all ye hope. Dress is smart casual especially in the restaurant. You won’t see any undergraduate students hanging around here to eat.
