If you are wanting a quality steak at a reasonable price then this is the place to go! I absolutely love the steak here. They cook it for 18 hours and it honestly melts in the mouth. The curly fries are the bomb and they do the best cocktails! Only downside for the gouger street hogs breath café was the service! We were greeted last night by a lady — and as we didn’t have a reservation it seemed like it was too hard to get a table for us(I felt like an inconvenience to her as she was all grumpy when I told her we didn’t have a reservation). We were seated, our meals came quickly but there was no forks on our table… I also wanted some sauce… The forks took a while to come out… My extra sauce never came at all. Disappointing as the service is normally pretty good here. Given this experience, I’m unsure that I would go back being honest.

BIGGESTDISAPPOINTMENTYET! I’m a huge steak fan! Love it — so when a family function came up in the city a while ago, everyone decided to go here — bad idea!!! Wasn’t tasty, wasn’t fresh, wasn’t clean and wasn’t hot! And service was awful too!!! Months later, in some kind of forgotten phase, we went back just my partner, daughter and myself! EVENWORSE!!! First off I was asked if it was ok if I got a warm/hot beer, cause they had a table coming in, in about an hour and they only had enough beers for them — seriously, my partner and I ordered steak and they were tough and butchered my daughter ordered the«Fresh Barramundi» which I do believe if I knocked it off the table, it would have just bounced back on the plate!!! It was filth. Made a complaint and was refunded the plastic fish, staff were not helpful at all! Haven’t been back and have absolutely no intention of either!!!

«Position perfect; the food and service… not so much» Based on the main strip of Gourger Street; we thought we would give this a try for a Birthday dinner. Upon being seated, we were disappointed essentially instantly. We ordered our drinks which were simply soft drinks and one basic alcoholic beverage. We waited for twenty minutes before we had to get the attention of the waitress who then exclaimed that the bar tender was«a trainee» and that she would then go and check on our drinks. A further 5 minutes passed and finally, we had our drinks. We then ordered our food. Each person ordered, as per usual. After an hour we finally saw our entrées which were all simple items such as: garlic bread, cheesy garlic bread and curly fries. At the same time we ordered our entrées, we ordered our main meals which we then had to wait a further 20 minutes after that to get. I was thoroughly disappointed with the presentation of the meal, the portion sizes and how they called the beef schnitzel«tonight’s special». I would like to touch on the main meal for two main reasons. One being that the beef«schnitzels» seemed like they were pre-frozen supermarket items that were then fried and the second being the proportion sizes of the«schnitzel», curly fries and salad. I could literally count the amount of curly fries I received on one and a half hands. One of the better parts of the night was the waitresses who were overly cheery, were easy to get along with and took the orders with ease. Just briefly touching on the décor; it’s your standard Hogs Breath chic with added flyers. The establishment was pretty clean when we attended. To wrap up the entire night, when paying for the food, their system was either very slow or just plain bad as it took our group of seven nearly fifteen minutes to pay. I believe for what I received as a meal was not commensurate with the price they charged me. Overall this was an unpleasant experience and I cant say I will be returning any time soon. We go to Hogs Breathe ALL the time! They have a great selection on Entrées and the Steaks are wonderfully tender! The last time we went was with a group of friends, we ordered some lovely entrées(Nacho’s, Burritos and salt and Pepper squid) to share and the steak as always, the steak was amazingly tender, best steak in Adelaide! It was a little annoying as around 9:30pm and the staff started turning off lights and tidying up around us, making us feel like we were really no longer wanted there. Otherwise the service and food was fabulous! The staff are usually foreigners who are ALWAYS super friendly and chatty. Pricing is reasonable especially for a good steak and you can easily walk in off the street and get a table. We will always come back.

Been wanting to come here for a while have heard good and bad reviews about this place and the one in Glenelg but thought we would try it. It wasn’t that bad. I ordered the 18 hour cook steak with mixed grill which was good. Price’s are ok not cheap but normal price you would pay for steaks. We didn’t book but wasn’t that busy for a sat night waited for about 10 minuits at the bar while they set us a table up. Service was good, fast and friendly. Will go again but prob try the Glenelg one out next time.

Hogs breath café. Really interesting I would say. It’s a very kids and family friendly restaurant, complete with its own kids playing area. The staff there are also pretty friendly, to the point that they either kneel down or they sit right across you to take the orders. Lol I felt it’s rather refreshing. Although I like standards, doing things differently and still managed to make your customers feel welcomed is pretty good imho. I ordered a medium rare garlic prawn prime steak. The flavours are alright, the garlic sauce didn’t really shine. The chips were cruchy good and the steak was 4⁄5 medium rare and a fifth of it was rather rare. Not that its bad, just that the consistency wasn’t there. Overall a great place to hangout with friends and kids.

Once again the Gouger St Hogs breath has let me down. I dined there with 4 other guest Friday night, it had so many let downs due to the waiting staff. first let down was we were sat down half an hour before someone came to ask us for our drinks order, once we finished our first round of drinks it then took 30 – 45 mins before we were asked if we would like refills. Staff were very unprofessional with their mannerism including questioning the way I would like my steak cooked several times with me in the end stating I would like it the way I asked please. When the food arrived it was placed at the end of the table with myself and guest having to move our meals ourselves, which we were all not impressed. the total bill came to $ 250 which is fine for Hogs Breath if we received the«Hogspitality» which we defiantly did not. I highly recommend the Glenelg café as I have never had a problem there :)

Steak and curly fries. STEAKANDGODDAMNCURLYFRIES!!! Why are there not more places in Adelaide that offer curly fries! I can almost guarantee that Hogs Breath’s steaks come in second to what truly attracts their customers, and that is quite obviously the gosh darn curly fries. But I suppose their steaks are good too. Most of you would know the Hogs Breath deal. Their steak are slow cooked over XX hours, yada yada yada. This particular Hog’s Breath hasn’t impressed me yet though. Every time I’ve been there in the past couple of years issues have arisen. My mother once received chicken that was still very much undercooked, we once had our drink order lost, twice, in succession. Steaks over cooked etc etc etc. But at least the interior décor is nice.

This review comes with a disclaimer: I am not the biggest demolisher of steak, and remaining true to Hogs Breath guideline as such, I have only ever«steaked» it out when eating here. However there are other options when dining here. I just haven’t tried them. Now the Hogs Breath is given a lot of praise, and is even sometimes dubbed the best steak house, so with this in mind, expectations are high and perhaps why I have never been entirely impressed here. With an authentic Australian touch, the environment is reflective of true blue Aussie décor. Think, walking into a pub for a meal in the middle of bush land Australia. I do not mind this approach, it gives the Hogs Breath a little bit of character, along with individuality. The only thing is, in my experience, I found it a little bit dirty, or at least it felt a little bit dirty. The steaks are fine, and I am in no means complaining about them or their quality. It is just that they are not entirely brilliant either. I guess A-OK sums it up best in the end.

You wouldn’t have pictured Hogs Breath Café to be amongst the fine culinary experiences on offer on the foody Gouger St, but it is surprisingly good and should not be overlooked by fancier restaurants with their fancier prices. The décor of Hogs Breath is what I love the most. I love the wooden beams and furnishings and love the big open tables and booths that you just want to slide on in to. As a huge fan of table service(I know I keep mentioning it but I really am), Hogs Breath excites me a lot and although it appears the waitresses don’t wear a lot of clothing sometimes, they are friendly and know a lot about the food and beverages. So onto the food. I’m not a huge steak person so I’ve never had one but have been in the presence of people who have and have seen their whole face light up and then fade away as they have a little moment to themselves with some really great steak. Be warned though, the price for the steaks is often just the steak an you might need to pay extra for fries or vegetables. Just check with your waitress first. Dessert is also a gigantic experience and although I’ve never personally eaten one, I have seen the HUGE ice cream sundaes exit the kitchen to be presented to a whole table who is sharing it. If I recall correctly it’s something like 14 scoops of ice cream and it is ENORMOUS so don’t even think about ordering unless there is at least three of you and even then, you better hope you are hungry!

Hoggieees! I love this place. The staff are extra friendly here, though on your visit you might find it slightly strange when they kneel down at the foot of your table to introduce themselves and take your order. You then obviously gather that it’s their customer service style, but in the first instance I thought she was just tired. I have never had a bad meal here. I’m more of a salad/seafood/burger person rather than steak, but all the steak eaters I know who have come here haven’t had any major complaints. I have have the avocado and crumbed mushroom salad before, complete with a side of curly fries(for which I paid for separately, it wasn’t part of the meal). Both were delicious, and super filling! Their portion sizes are just unreal. My family took me here for my 19th birthday, and the staff came out singing Happy Birthday while bringing me a serve of chocolate brownies with a sparkler candle. The brownies were moist, rich(a good rich, not an ‘ugh’ rich), and didn’t last very long. Additionally, the décor of this place is über cool. The booths, wooden furnishings, wall artwork, photographs and beer bottle salt and pepper shakers give it a homely cowboy feel. It is also kid friendly, with a kids menu and play area. It’s great for groups as well.
