Unfortunately I had a less than fantastic experience dining at Cos. While I’m happy to pay for good food, what amounted to $ 44 for a steak(without any sides) that arrived over cooked and tough was pretty disappointing. The service was extremely lack lustre too. With staff mostly missing in action or when in attendance, giving us that dead eyed look that makes you feel you’re ruining their night by asking for more drinks. A real shame for a restaurant that has been recommended in the past.

do not go to this restaurant. I would have to say that I had one of the worst meals ever at this restaurant. I should have known it would be bad when I walked into the restaurant at about 900pm on a Friday night and the large bar in the centre of the restaurant was FULL of dirty glasses and plates… The meal started with 2 pieces of stale sour dough, which I sent back and which the waitress did not even acknowledge(they were included on the bill despite the fact that j indicated I wouldn’t being paying for them Three of us then had the slow cooked beef short ribs, which had been cooked for only an hour or two… They were almost inedible and we told them so. Another of our party had the pork neck which again was barely edible. The final member of the party ordered a rib eye which was not cooked as requested, again making it barely edible. The service was poor, the food was terrible, albeit it is a lovely setting.

Nice food ruined by poor service. I had a fillet steak which was well cooked and delicous. Sides of fries and brocollini were very tasty too, and my friends said their lamb was cooked perfectly and nicely spiced. We sat inside and the surroundings were nice. However the service was just awful. Much of it seemed to be related to us being a table of 3 — two menus were brought out and only enough water for two until the waiter went to get more. We were not waited on promptly, and had to call someone over for table water — on a 43 degree day! Our wine and drinks came out lukewarm, possibly due to still-hot glasses used to make them. We were asked if we were ready to order & I enquired about the fish of the day. The waitress replied ‘I think it’s salmon’ and when I asked about how it was served she said ‘it changes every day’. Then she left without taking our orders, and we had to get attention of staff for her to come back and take the orders, and she did not then explain the fish to us. We ordered bread for the table — the menu said two pieces were in a bread order. When two pieces arrived we set to work on splitting them up between us — and once we had finished the waitress brought another piece saying the chef thought we might like a third piece. Too little too late. After dinner we were asked about dessert and we said we’d like to see the menu. We were given a menu to look at, and though we had decided not to have dessert and were quite happy to chat we were not spoken to for forty minutes. We got attention of staff to pay and a lovely waiter split the bill for us. Though the food was nice I don’t think I will be returning here again, as there are plenty of places in Adelaide where a similar price will get excellent food and friendly, helpful staff. Just not at COS.

Really pleased by this place. Great energy and vibe on happening Leigh Street. Food was fantastic with a great menu and decent wine list. Servers were knowledgeable though a bit aloof. Great night out!

There was no love in the service or food. Very disappointed. Sat for half an hour thinking they would ask us if we wanted to order drinks. Then was recommended the share platters which looked like they threw the food on a plate… Literally. So for a bill of a thousand dollars you would think you would get good food and service. Hmmmm no! Sorry won’t be back, there are a lot more enjoyable places that make you feel welcome.

Set in historic Leigh Street, Cos is also situated in a charming period building. It has a proper formal intimate(yet still a cool atmosphere) restaurant, which outside of a few Italian restaurants is hard to find. The waitress was a bit average(continually stepping over someone’s jacket that had fallen on floor, not over helpful on menu) but the manager was hands on and fantastic! The sushi, the marron, and the snapper were superb.

Recommended by Just A, we had to give this a go. Knowing we were heading to Adelaide, i booked in advance. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed and shown to our table. The waiters were friendly and knowledgable about the food. In the end I decided to have the smoky bay oysters followed by the fillet steak with sides of brussell spouts and mushrooms. The oysters were fresh and juicy. The fillet steak came with two sauces, café de paris or red wine jus. So I divided my steak in two and had a bit of each. Favourite was the café de paris but both were nice. The brussell sprouts were done with chillso there was a lovely spicy flavour that warmed the soul. And then there are the mushrooms. OMG. Seriously. These were the best mushrooms I have ever had. Large field mushrooms with onion, parsley, thyme in a butter cream reduction. No room for dessert, we left. Next night, why not! we came back for more. The same waiter was on and remembered us and what we ate. This time, I had the oysters(again) followed by the ceviche which had some interesting flavours including rhubarb. While this is a entrée serve, I had it as a main as I had a big lunch and did not want to miss dessert. Dessert was the gingerbread. Cake full of gingery goodness, popcorn and honeycomb dotted around the plate and cream. Ate my first bite and new I couldn’t leave any behind. Yum. For a night of great food and drink, stop by Cos!

Having visited COS with coworkers, a planed romantic evening and as a drop-in ad-hoc supper I would have to say that I am a fan. The staff have always been attentive, remember the little things like the water choice you have and which meals go in front of which person. They engage in a friendly manner and know the menu well so they can recommend a dish on experience — which is always important in my mind. The food is no slouch either on every occasion I have not wanted to stop eating and fit every last bit of my meal in; which is a sign of good meals. The steak and mushrooms have been standout, the even simple dishes such as scotch egg are very nice.

Let me preface this review by saying I come from Perth, where the all-round exceptional dining experience is seriously lacking. But don’t hold that against me. I am from elsewhere originally, and have dined out all over the world. So I know great food and service when I get it. What a wonderful evening myself and three friends had at Cos recently. I can’t rave on how much we enjoyed it. From being made to feel like royalty by all staff, down to the special ‘just for us’ dessert treat prepared with less than a days’ notice, saying«thank you» to the people at Cos on the way out just didn’t seem to be sufficient. It’s little wonder, despite being an interstater who visits sporadically, that I keep going back to Cos. The service, over the years, has been exceptional, consistent and welcoming. The food, well, quite simply, there is a whole lot of love and pride coming out on those plates, night after night. In life, we hear a lot of moaning and complaints, but I have nothing but praise for all the staff at Cos, who make every meal a delight. Keep on keeping on Cos, because what you are doing is magic.

I can’t fault Cos. I’ve been there several times and every time it is pure magic. The food and the service are great, I highly recommend the tasting platter to start.

Why? «Just cos.» Cos Restaurant has served me well on date night twice now and I have to say I can’t go past the attentiveness, welcoming and working knowledge of each waiter/waitress we have had here. The food, although on the higher side of moderately-priced, is of a very high standard from their cuts of meat, portions of fish or large side dishes. My partner has dined on T-bone Steak and a 300g special here at different points in time and both he has experienced steak cooked to rare perfection with the meat being left to shine through and not relying on a sauce to add flavour. I have dined on Atlantic Salmon and Snapper here and although my Salmon was cooked to perfection unfortunately my Snapper was not. I could not take off more than one star for the initial under-cooking and then overcooking of this fish though because of the way my issue was handled. I wasn’t blamed, I wasn’t made to feel in the wrong, the service value of admitting a mistake, apologising and quickly restoring the faith was a higher price than the meal itself. The environment at Cos is always warm, intimate and makes you feel like you are dining with silver service, while paying half the price. On a side note about a side dish — The seasonal greens are so wrongly covered in butter and garlic that it is so right. Meanwhile their freshly cooked warm complimentary bread to start is something you don’t see in many places now days but is a welcome addition and quickly devoured and smothered in the crisp oil provided. It gets 4 T-Bones for me and 2 shakes of a lamp rump!

When my girlfriend brought me here for my birthday some time ago, I knew straight away that I had arrived in my favourite restaurant. It didn’t take long for Cos to win me over, with a knockout combination of great atmosphere, food and service. Their menu is sophisticated and diverse, and it’s nothing short of gourmet. The finest ingredients are compiled to produce some of the most flavoursome food I’ve had the good fortune of having. I’m unsure of exactly which steak I had here, but it was ridiculously good. All of their steaks sounded appetizing, and they only put out the finest beef. The service was excellent, and we had a waiter ready to assist us at all times. Not only did his friendliness add to the overall experience, but he was well-versed in the beer and wine menu, and had a lot of advice on which beverages complimented particular dishes. T o top it off, the staff brought out custom-made cupcakes with candles on top for dessert. I’ll definitely be returning here, whether there’s a birthday or not.

This charming little Restaurant with an irresistible classic European vibe may be called ‘Cos’, but if you’re at all a fan of a good piece of meat, I’d suggest you skip the caesar and go straight for the steak. That is not to say the caesar is not a worthy choice — maybe consider it for lunch. It is carefully constructed with a good balance of all the naughty richness characteristic of the dish. It’s just that the kitchen at Cos clearly excels itself in front of the grill and is using high quality meat cooked with finesse. I’ve even eaten a chicken dish at Cos which impressed(not an easy task). The atmosphere is also a winning feature of this city eatery. Positioned on Leigh street, the huge windows which open up the main downstairs dining area to the street provide lightness and air which is very appealing. There is also a charming courtyard on the side of the building where you can dine in good weather.
