An amazing lunch stop as a special lunch menu is on offer. The process of dry aged beef provides an excellent culinary experience. This I an excellent place to bring children. The children’s menu comes as part of a small booklet which also contains a story which includes pictures to be coloured in with the pencils also provided in a cylinder. These proved a great hit with our children. And certainly maintained their interest while waiting for the meal to arrive. My friend and I had both selected the lunch time steak. We were delighted with the extensive salad bar which contained an unimaginable variety of accompaniments to compliment steak. Our experience was delightful and we are eager to return.

Meat, meat, meat, meat. This place is all about the meat. If you don’t like meat, please do not come here. This place has arguably one of the most unique ordering methods around. You write down your initials on a little paper and the number of your chosen entrée and main from the menu, and tick some boxes to choose your chips, salad, butter and how you want your meat done. Fantastic meat selection aside, this place has an excellent salad bar. I would happily skip the meats to run straight to the salad bar. There is absolutely every element you can imagine at the salad bar — from your basics like tomato, leaves and corn to the absolutely exquisite like craisins and quinoa. Top that up with the house sauce and you’ve got a meal! Overall, can get a bit pricey, but the good food makes up for it.

I had looked forward to dining here for over a year and we were really disappointed. Although the staff were friendly, they were very busy and not attentive to our table. We had four diners, 3 of us had steak and not one of the steaks was cooked right, one meal having to be sent back. The meal was was overpriced, especially when you are expected to take your own order and get your own salad. The best part of the meal was the salad bar and even then at $ 14 on top of your meal, your was a rip off. Will not be dining here again

Great atmosphere with a unique ordering system gives a full dinning experience for anyone. Warning do not go if you are vegan or don’t eat red meat. For everyone else there are a huge variety of steaks and sides. Bit on the pricey side but its good for special occasions.

I went here for dinner with a small group of friends and sat at a table outside the front of the restaurant. The cold weather was not an issue as there was a large heater next to the table and the seats were surprisingly comfortable. I ordered the Wagyu steak which was on special for $ 37 but chose to give the salad a miss as it looked as though it had been sitting out all day and cost extra. The size of the steak was a little bigger than expected and it was also cooked quite well. The meal also came with fries and garlic butter for flavour and was almost worth the price. The service was excellent but the ammenities would not be enough if the place were packed. –1 star for the disappointing salad and price but still a great place to eat.

Australia’s only Scandinavian Beefstouw eatery(lucky us) serves, as the name implies. BEEF. Steak that is, just about every cut, size and price you could imagine, from rump up to 500g of Wagu. The only sauce you get is seasoned butter, but then again, a good steak needs no sauce. On the side is potato, either baked or as fries, and if needed some of the good salad stuff. There’s a couple of options for those that aren’t too fond of beef… Their selections of entrees and deserts are a tasty treat as well. Not a place to go every day, but if you love a simple, well cooked, steak, you can’t go too far wrong.

I really liked this place. The steak was incredibly tender and the garlic butter made my mouth quiver in excitement. 500g: perfect. I ordered medium, and it was a medium but closer to medium — well done. Being that I like rarer, it was fine, but would order a medium rare next time. Potato was bossing. I ordered the salad bar too, but only had a few olives and pickled onions as I was full. Good wine range. Only come here if you want to spend $ 75 – 100 per head. Service was extremely professional and welcoming/efficient. Really: I don’t know how anyone could be hating on this place, except the price tag.

If you don’t like steak, don’t come here!!! Sounds a bit obvious but I was brought here on a date. One of the ones where you’re told to dress for dinner but don’t know where you’re going. I don’t eat steak(the texture puts my teeth on edge but that’s a whole other story), so I had three options, one chicken dish, one lamb dish and one fish dish. Steak options however, are plentiful! Despite booking a week prior we were seated outside which wasn’t all that ideal as the weather was starting to get cooler, so if you want to sit inside, make sure you tell them when you book. There was a plastic sheet pulled down so we weren’t exposed too badly to the wind. Order taking is a bit different, you’re given a menu and a card. You write down the corresponding number to the dish you want, how you want it cooked — rare, medium or well done(they mean the steak, didn’t want rare chicken or fish!), and what sides you want, chips or boiled potato. If you want salad it’s an extra $ 8.50 and self-serve. I went with the chicken, which was pretty average, quite dry but my date insists that his steak was cooked to perfection. I guess to be a chef here you need to know your steak! The service was quite good, the waiters talking us through the ordering card and coming up and seeing how we were numerous times during the night. I probably wouldn’t go back, only because I don’t eat 97% of the menu and don’t think my dry chicken was worth it’s $ 42 price tag

** Word of warning ** They WILL reheat your meal if it is undercooked and re-serve it to you thinking you are none the wiser. Now, this is by no means my final review of this place as I will generally give places a second chance, I understand occasionally places have off nights. They shouldn’t but they do… We went to A Hereford Beefstouw for a birthday, for a bit of dinner. Nothing too drastic, just 7 of us there. 6 of us ordered entrees, the Salmon was apparently amazing, it looked good but I had the Salt & Pepper squid. The S&P squid was delicious, cooked perfectly, not too much S&P and the highlight of MY meal. Another diner at our table had the scrappy ends of the Squid and they were all cooked for the same amount of time, meaning the smaller pieces came out rubbery and over cooked. I ordered a steak of which is definitely over priced, but this is obviously the clientele they are targeting for their market, people who want other people to cook a steak for them then charge them a lot for it. So I ordered, my steak to be cooked medium… 45 minutes later, the rarest steak I have even been expected to eat(bar the Steak Florentine in Tuscany) lands in front of me. Normally I would not send it back and I would just eat around the uncooked part and leave the rest on the plate, but this was literally seared and brought out so there was no much there for me to eat. It was sent back; and in some strike of fortune it returned not long later(5 or so minutes), cooked evenly and steaming hot… Like I don’t know it was just shoved in the microwave and stuck back in front of me. I know for sure it was not a new piece of steak, because firstly you can’t cook a steak that fast, and secondly I could still see where I had cut the steak in the middle to check how it was cooked(as their menu suggests doing). Last time I checked, once a meal had left the kitchen, you were not allowed to recook it and double serve it… As we were ready to leave, we got offered a free coffee… Now after that poor experience I did not want to stick around any longer, so we declined and left. In order for them to get people back in the door so to speak(we sat outside), they should have offered me some kind of discount or freebie if I was to return(which would also mean I have to bring more people back to spend more money there). That is neither here nor there. Now all that they have achieved is a bad review.

This is a very nice and fun restaurant. The ambience is very cool here. A modern type steak house with butcher block tables, a very cool wine display case, a wall of Moët and a hip looking salad bar in the center. Started out with Aussie oyster which were delicious. Next stop was the salad bar which had a great selection to choose from. For dinner I had a dry aged filet(that was a special that evening) with a baked potato. Also very good and cooked to perfection. I washed it all down with some vanilla ice cream topped with fresh strawberries. I highly recommend this place and plan to visit again on my next trip to Adelaide.

Like a gourmand’s visit to an Ikea store! These folks know how to do a steak to perfection. If you are able to order collectively, get the larger(b version) cuts carved at your table — there is more of the succulent beef per person. Quaint, but handy, ordering technique and a good wine list ensures a satisfying experience. Such a contrast to more formal(American-style) steakhouses. Our lunchtime service couldn’t have been better.

I went there to redeem my lunch voucher from Scoopon. Amazing ambience and history of this restaurant. Go there to try one of the best steaks in town. They have a huge array of wine as well. Lunch is really nice with the danish smokeboard series. I love the flounder!

We ate at this restaurant on the last night of our Adelaide holiday. I was told we were going to a steakhouse for dinner and as such felt a little underdressed and underprepared for the cost of the meal. Nonetheless, I do love my steak and don’t shy away from paying for good meat which I assumed we would be getting. A large group of us sat outside just after 7. We were a little ‘chatty’ but the restaurant was empty and we weren’t being offensive at all, a little joking about the cost and the ‘upmarket’ style compared to what we were expecting(this is important later). I ordered oysters for my entrée and a sirloin with chips for my main(if you want serve yourself salad it’s another $ 7 for a small side dish). My oysters arrived and I had half a dozen small oysters plopped on a large dinner plate with one piece of lemon. For $ 18 I must admit I was expecting a little presentation and a little more ‘bang for my buck’. The oysters were tasteless but hey, you win some you lose some. Mains came out quite a long wait later(in which we’d requested more water which arrived at the end of the meal after someone chased it — 1 jug between 8 people). My chips were black and burned. I tasted one and asked the waitress if I could get some that weren’t burned black. She told me that I wasn’t at McDonalds and that as they were home made they would be brown no matter what. I told her the colour didn’t worry me, it was that they were charcoaled. She bought replacements out for everyone with burned chips after them all having to ask for replacements themselves.(Side note, if I were at McDonalds I could get my fries for significantly less without a side order of attitude). After this our table was ignored for the rest of the meal. The waitress was polite as pie when it came to time to pay and for her to hand me a tip slip. For the price we could have fed our entire table at McDonalds and gotten better service. Avoid, avoid, avoid. If I could rate this 0 stars I would be.

Lovely restaurant in a nice building with a great front verandah that you can just imagine sitting and having a beer on. The ordering system was a bit kitsch for a high-end place and I swear we got the wrong thing. We both ordered wagyu and I am pretty sure we got the rump steak. Loved the idea of the salad bar, but from the time we sat down, ordered, got salad bar and then were served our cooked meals to finishing, paying and leaving was 30 minutes. On the dot. We got there at 7pm, left at 7.30pm. Strange, I thought the meals would take a bit longer! The steak tasted great, a bit too heavy on the seasoning salt though.

Okay — I admit it Hereford Beefstouw is a chain Restaurant — albeit a very expensive and charming Danish one. This concept has not previously been seen in Adelaide and for it’s originality it deserves to be applauded. I think there are 16 restaurants in the chain, throughout Denmark, Sweden, and now Adelaide! The fit out is nothing short of phenomenal, the building on Hutt St is beautiful and everything about it exudes charm and class. I am surprised firstly by the salad bar in the middle of the restaurant and then by the quality and interest of the winelist. It seems picked by a South Australian with a good knowledge of international wine, rather than the other way around. That’s exactly it. it becomes evident that Hereford has an emphasis on local quality South Australian produce, how Scandinavian! The ordering system is different and the salad bar strange for a pricey restaurant in Australia, but the overall experience here is culturally different to our own and for that I salute it. This restaurant is for people who love meat and the novelty of the place dictates that it is not for those who are inflexible in their approach to dining out! The napkins hanging from the hooks on the table are another cute addition. This place is definately worth a try, for those with the coin to do so.
