Zum Schwejk

quite a cultural experience for a temporary resident of Deutschland like me. i found gay bars in frankfurt quite… new yorky. people are quite reserved and really keep to the group they are with. but this place is an entirelyyyy differentttt story.
they play a lot of german songs and EVERY GUY in the bar knows all of the words. in the us, i was the coolest cheese in town with my beyonce, my tswift, and all of the gay favorites. but here i had to stay close to my friend and sip my beer quietly and take it all in. and just wait just wait they will play dancing queen by abba. yesssss.
the deutsche guys here are quite friendly… not exactly how i would describe the frankfurt people in general (in my opinion, they are the most uptight in germany…). i ended up chatting with a few guys (my german came in handy. no pun intended.). thanks for not blasting blasting the music.
as an auslander, i really like this place. some of my friends from frankfurt said the exact opposite. but i will hit this place again! maybe it’s time i have a ‘layover’ in frankfurt next time i’m swinging by europe.

On our first night in Frankfurt we felt like hanging out a bit, after passing through a couple of bars we realized the prices are really high around the city center, so we found this friendly gay bar.
This place is some kind of a schlager-​bar that feels like we are not in 2015 anymore.
I felt like I’m in the middle of a class party.
The bar is pretty small and most of the people seem to know each other, when I asked my friend who used to live in Frankfurt he said that we came to this bar on the wrong the day, but that’s all I can report about.
I asked the bartender for a menu and he giggled, so I just asked what beers they serve «only one», so that’s what we took.
The price was fair — 5.20 for two small beers.
So we sat there, found a corner table, away from the judging looks of the crowd that was there, the music was pretty bad– and all of a sudden everyone left, so it became a bit awkward.
The atmosphere of this place made me feel a bit uncomfortable …
We left despite the fact that our beers were half full.

I visited this place in the past and had a great time. Last week my friend and I wanted to have a quick drink. Upon opening the door the doorman rudely stated that this is a gay bar and we’re not allowed in. First off how does this guy know whos gay and not? I find this very rude and discriminatory. I will never bring any of my gay friends here again. Rude Rude Rude!

Oh man this place is set up for Xmas already and the deco is amazing just as it was for Halloween. The service is nice and consistent and the people are somewhat nice. There’s always a few who ruin the party but the staff doesn’t put up with that. It really is the best place to come for the different seasons I hate the gay scean but this place is just very nice to chill out in before the busy hours and just have a lot of fun. The bald guy who works the bar is a bit sexy also

Came here on a Tuesday night and barman was busy talking to his friends. No smiles and more annoyed than anything. When he finally came to serve us, he gave my change in the smallest change he could find ie 10+ coins to make 2 euro. he then continued to share shots with his friends. Perhaps it depends on the barman who is there. Terrible experience.

Ok, die Musik ist absolut nicht mein Ding, aber das Schwejk ist immer einen Besuch wert, um mit Freunden einen tollen Abend zu verbringen. Seit gefühlten Jahrhunderten gibt es das Schwejk in der Schäfergasse. Gerade am Wochenende ist der Laden brechend voll. Im Sommer verteilt sich das ganze auch vor die Tür, wo es dann erträglicher wird und nicht klaustrophobisch ist.
Besonders viel Spaß bringt das Schäfergassenfest, was hauptsächlich vom Schwejk ausgerichhtet wird. Die Gass ist voll und bis in die Nacht wird gefeiert!
Ein Besuch ist das Schwejk immer wert, besonders, wenn man Besuch aus anderen Städten hat. Ein guter Start für die Nacht!

If you find yourself in Frankfurt and need to go to an over-​the-​top, seasonally decorated neighborhood gay bar, Zum Schwejk is the place to go. They have a full bar and also serve the Frankfurt specialty, apple wine!
Service is friendly and prompt in the afternoons and the patrons are also friendly, in a friendly way, not necessarily in a slutty way.
It’s located near the Zeil and is an easy walk from the Haupt Wache U-​Bahn stop.

Die beste Anlaufstelle um den Abend in der Szene zu beginnen. Die Bar gehört zu Frankfurt wie der Römer. Immer wenn ich in Frankfurt bin gehört ein Besuch dazu.
Faire Preise und gute Bedienung. Am Wochenende ist der Laden rappel voll. Nette Leute in allen Altersklassen.

My favorite neighborhood gay bar in Frankfurt.
I think coming to this place for over 15 years. It is here where my good German friend Henning and I first met. Essentially this is a great little neighborhood pub. Usually when we have friends or family in town, we make at least stopped here. Everyone is welcome. The other day we even took our nephew, his wife, and there is 11-​year-​old son in for some drinks. The decorations change seasonally. At Christmas they are over the top. Usually there is a high kitsch, but currently the disco seen is mostly white at least during the daytime. Unlike in US gay bars, you can actually get decent wine here. And here rather than paying for each drink, you get a little tab which gets added up at the end at which time you can take care of it.

Der Laden ist das Herz des schwulen Dreiecks!

Im ersten Moment fällt einem gar nicht auf, daß es ein schwuler Laden ist — besonders nachmittags sind da eher Frauen und ihre besten Freundinnen drin. Die Musik ist grenzwertig, aber nach dem dritten Äppler gefällt sogar die Schlager-​Schunkel-​Musik und man greift nach dem Arm des Nachbarn, um nicht alleine schunkeln zu müssen. Nach dem fünften Äppler interessiert auch nicht, ob der Nachbar schwul oder hetero ist, und nach dem siebten Äppler interessiert gar nix mehr
Ein gewisser Spaßfaktor ist dem Laden also nicht abzusprechen. Als ich hinterher erfahren habe, daß die Lampen wirklich geschwungen sind und ich das nicht im Suff geträumt habe, war das allerdings recht ernüchternd also das nächste Mal mehr Äppler. :o)

Frankfurts lustige Kneipe im Gay-​Bermuda-​Dreieck in der Innenstadtmancheiner sagt, er könne die Musik nur betrunken aushaltenaber so ein wenig Schunkel-​Gute-​Laune-​Mitsing-​Mittanz-​Mitgröhl-​Musik hat noch niemanden geschadetegal ob betrunken oder nicht.
Der Laden ist nicht gerade sehr gross und deshalb am Wochenende auch sofort voll. Aber umso schneller steigt die Stimmung und Linda (der Besitzer) lässt ihre Barlampen schwingen

die lustigste Kneipe Frankfurts, mit jeder Menge Spaß, gutem Äppelwoi, guter Party-​Musik, super nettem Personal, wunderbarer themenbezogener Deko (sehr aufwendig und mit viel Mühe und Leidenschaft gemacht)
das Schwejk ist seit fast 2 Jahrzehnten Kult in Frankfurt und weitüber die Stadtgrenzen hinaus bekannt.
