So I’ve been to this restaurant countless times over the years. You can’t go wrong if you’re looking for a decent jäger schnitzel or schweinhawkse. The owner is a bit of a crudgemudgeon but that makes him endearing in my opinion. The guy works very hard to make a living. On last visit decide to try the jäger schnitzel made with chicken this time instead of pork. Not bad but I’ll stick with pork from now on. Your choice of fries, spätzle, home fries of mashed potatoes. I’m partial to mashed to use the mushroom gravy on. I like to order a side of red cabbage to go with mine. Note– drink beer. It’s cheaper than bottled water. Small bottles 3 euro. Big 5 euro.

We went here to finish up our vacation… We wanted a local place, nothing fancy and that’s what we got. The enjoyment was seeing the old décor and watching the place in action. The head waiter was a «grumpy» old man that had a sense of humor. Grumpy in a good way. Our party consisted of two Americans, a French woman and a Swiss German woman and at the end of our meal, the waiter came up and asked how we all met because of the all the different languages. The meals were quite tasty and filling and if we ever venture back to Frankfurt, I wold not hesitant to stop for a meal. My only con would be I would like to have ordered another beverage but the place was packed and everyone was enjoying themselves.

We stopped in tired and hungry, and left energized and content. The schweinehaxe with kraut und mashers was so flavorful and crispy, yet moist. The sulze was also very nice and a treat for us visitors. Don’t forget the apfelwine und bier! Thank you Eck staff for your kind hospitality. It filled up fast, so get there early!

This was the worst restaurant in Frankfurt that I went to. The service was really bad and they just throw the food on our table and the change as well. The food was mediocre and was just ok. The salad was dry on the top which means that it was pre-made and was sitting there for a long time. I am not sure if the waiter was racist or just didn’t like us but he gave us the Chinese menu without asking and served the white couples first even though they came later also they ordered the same food as ours. The waiter never asked how we were doing and I wanted some mustard with my sausage but I never got it. DON’T GO here and there are restaurants that are soooo much better such as Zu den 12 Aposteln, Zum Gemalten Haus or Apfelwein Dax. Also don’t trust the opening hours on Unilocal about this restaurant.

Fantastic schweinhaxen(pork knuckle) number 112 on the menu. You have a choice of sides, French fries, mashed potatoes, mixed veggies, saurkraut. I chose potatoes and saurkraut. The pork knuckle is crispy on the outside and tender and moist on the inside. It literally falls off the bone. Ordered a side of spatzel and it was just the right texture and seasoned perfectly. Price for dinner 10.80 euro, very reasonable. The man who takes your order speaks good English and he is a little feisty, so beware. Wish the plate had more saurkraut and only downfall is if you want dumplings it takes 30 minutes to order. We had a group of 8 for dinner and no problem with seperate checks. As we were leaving at 9 pm the restaurant had people poor in. Great food and great price.

Great restaurant for pork knuckle. Very crispy and lots of meat. Prices are reasonable. Owners serve you and are helpful if you don’t know what to order. Of course, everybody including our group orders the schweinshaxe(pork knuckle).

This is the best restaurant in Frankfurt were locals eat. The best pig knuckle in Germany!!! Tasty platters and you must have the homemade apple streusel with vanilla ice cream.

Back when I was a Pan Am flight attendant, the crews used to come here, we called it ‚“the gas station”, because of its location. My favorite was the mashed potatoes. We came here on every Frankfurt layover.

Reasonably priced and portioned traditional food in a homey, unpretentious atmosphere. The owner is definitely a character, and while service was slow because he and a busboy were serving the whole place, his gruff friendliness was pleasant. The food is very good. The jägerschnitzel is crispy and flavorful, with generous chunks of mushroom. The French fries are crispy but taste frozen – opt for the home fries, which are cooked to just the right balance of tender and crunchy, instead. The white asparagus plate of the day consisted of a full pound of asparagus accompanied by perfectly steamed potatoes and the most delicately flavored Hollandaise I’ve ever tasted. The ambience isn’t much, but the home cooking hits the spot, and the convenient location a few blocks from the train station can’t be beat.

This is the best of the best. It was been the flight crews favorite for 20 years. Although I’ve eaten end there was not surprised when our hotel recommended it over their restaurant. The owners name is Gert.

Best place to go in Frankfurt. Need to get the Pigs Knuckle the best I have had. The owner is the waiter and he is great. The price is right also under 20 € for a meal. A must in Frankfurt

I agreed with Matry P… good classic German food at affordable prices. Gert definitely comes off grumpy(engage him a bit and he’s becomes alot more friendly!), but if you’re staying near the train station and don’t want to trek over to Zum Gemalten Haus in Sachsenhausen for a crispy schweinshaxe, dunkel hefeweizen or apfelwein, stop by for a cozy traditional Frankfurt meal.

Not the Ritz, just a nice, quaint German restaurant in downtown Frankfurt. Very affordable, fresh German food. Probably the best place in town for Schweinhaxe(pork knuckle) – moist, fall-off-the-bone meat with a nice crispy skin. Fried potatoes with onions are delicious.

Gert, the owner is a arrogant pompous ass. His food is at best mediocre as far as German food is concerned. It takes 20 – 30 minutes to pay you bill as he is usually the only one taking orders and doing the serving. Trust me, there are hundreds of better German restaurants than the Basslereck. Avoid it at all costs.

Leckere gutbürgerliche deutsche Küche, netter Service und immer Multi-Kulti. Ein echter Geheimtipp in Bahnhofsnähe nur leider etwas klein.

Good, classic German food at affordable prices. If the owner is in a good mood you’ll have a great experience, otherwise he can be curt and rude. His wife works the register and his ex works in the kitchen! Airline crews worldwide that layover in Frankfurt frequent this place, so there has to be something to it. This place is great! When you walk in it’s a typical German family restaurant with a bit of traveler memorabilia due to it’s proximity to the train station and the flight crews that go there on layovers. If there’s one thing I’ve learned, it’s that flight crews know where to go for a mix of food, service and value. The owner is a charming man who seems to take genuine interest in his guests, and took the time to explain dishes to us that we didn’t quite know what they really were. The bier, of course, is fresh German bier. I had Nuremburger(sp?) sausages with mashed potatoes and red cabbage. Wonderful! The sausages were grilled, potatoes perfect and I love red cabbage. My partner has the schweinhaxen(pork knuckle) and said it was great. We were offered desserts but were too full after eating our meals and having a second bier each. But we did take advantage of the little shot of booze that most family run German restaurants seem to offer. Perfect way to end a great meal! I really don’t think we had an experience different from everyone else there, they all seemed to be having a great time. Maybe the other reviewer who left one star was there on an off night? Or maybe he did something like walk in drunk or disrespectful in some way? I have no way of knowing, but our experience was great, and like I said earlier, with all the airline crews there enjoying themselves and saying that they dine there on all their layovers, great food and service must be the norm here.

gross! i have been here with a group of work mates that boasted the food. blach!!! first off, the ambiance is non existent. you sit in a sterile room with gross walls and no décor. the tables and cheap and uncomfortable. secondly, the guy who runs it is rude, arrogant, slimy and unappreciative to clientele. thirdly, the food was over cooked and tasted like it came out of a packet. maybe there was a glory day for this establishment, however the restaurant industry has evolved and Baseler Eck has not. no thank you!
