Görlitzer Ufer

Das Görlitzer Ufer entstand im Zuge der Bemühungen, in den 1980er Jahren einen «Görlitzer Stadtpark» zu errichten. Die Uferzone — damals noch in Mauernähe — sollte zu einem attraktiven Raum umgebaut werden.
Das Ergebnis kann sich einigermaßen sehen lassen, denn im Sommer sind die Plätze am Kanal regelmäßig rar. Ein Radweg führt am «Görli» vorbei in Richtung Freischwimmer und über den Heilemann-​Steg kommt man nach Alt-​Treptow.
Alles recht nett, doch so richtig begeistern kann mich das nicht. Mal schauen, wie es im nächsten Sommer aussieht, denn da bekommt das Görlitzer Ufer Konkurrenz durch den neu gestalteten Lohmühlenplatz.

With more than a handful of Ufer all throughout the city, there is arguably nothing too special or remarkable about them, at least when thinking of them collectively. Yet each one has its own pros (and sometimes, cons).
As for Görlitzer Ufer, one particularly fantastic aspect is that it is somewhat out of the main way, and isn’t along a street that is much of a «through-​street.» As a result, the people that walk along the bank are there for a specific reason. The stretch itself is not too long, but it’s pretty and serene. There is a nice bike path and a running path as well, and benches to sit on and look out on the water. It’s also not uncommon to see boats pass by in the middle of the day–
And of course, it’s a mere hop, skip and jump away from Görlitzer Park. But if one wants to see «nature» and avoid the hustle and bustle of the park, reading a book next to the water or taking a stroll along Görlitzer Ufer might just be what is needed.
