Tipps: 1. Lamm-​Couscous — da kommt né Riesenkeule mit Knochen. 2. Shisha mit echtem Apfel als Kopf — beste. 3. Dazu den Ramallah-​Cocktail.
Außerdem super korrektes Personal! Minuspunkt: Ganz normale Prenzelberg-​Preise.

Ein wirklich relaxed Gaumenerlebnis arabischer Köstlichkeiten bei freundlichem Service und angenehmer entspannter Atmosphäre. Wir haben es sehr genossen! Selbst die Musik war in angemessener Lautstärke und Mix ein bemerkenswertes Detail. Ich komme sicher wieder!

Das Al Hamra ist ein Restaurant mit Wohnzimmeratmosphäre. Hier fühlt man sich schon wohl, sobald man eintritt. Es gibt gutes Essen und obwohl es relativ eng ist, fühlt man sich keineswegs beengt. Sehr freundliche Bedienung und für die Zweiertische u.a. alte Nähmaschinengestelle.

War bereits mehrere Male im Al Hamra und es war immer sehr lecker!
Richtig gute Falafels, auch die Salate und Wraps sind super!
Bedienung ist sehr freundlich und zuvorkommend.
Die Couches sind sehr angenehm zum Sitzen, wenn man die Treppen nach unten geht gibt es mehr Bar-​Atmosphäre.

Her: «I’ve already eaten but I’ll go with you and have a drink».
Me: «Sure. You know I’m going to check out a lot of places before deciding, right?»
Her: «That’s fine»
10 minutes later, after walking two blocks with me checking menus, ambience, and prices:
Her: «JUST PICK A PLACE!!!»
I practically sprinted over to Al Hamra, a place that had intrigued me a few nights prior when I noticed how popular it appeared and saw patrons outside enjoying a hookah.
The place is very appealing. First, it’s in Prenzlauer Berg, where I was staying and where I’d also recommend you stay. This berg is very safe-​feeling, and each street off the main drag waits to be discovered for its abundance of appealing bars, restaurants, cafes, and vintage clothing shops. Al Hamra is one such discovery. Second, it appears to be adored by this neighborhood which is filled with young families. And third, there’s the food. Specifically, a meatless Mediterranean plate they have at dinnertime. You might get an idea of its deliciousness if I tell you this is the only place I ate at twice during my stay in Berlin and I ordered that both times. Yes, that good.
Al Hamra falls a bit short only in the following areas:
* It can be a long time before your order gets taken and longer still before your food or drink arrive.
* The seats can be oddly uncomfortable; there are couches which create odd angles from which to reach your food. Twice I was seated at what is an old-​fashioned sewing machine table complete with the foot lever on the floor. It all adds to the charm of the place even if it is not overly comfortable.
* No English language menus but if you see someone eating something that looks good just inquire.
The friend who joined me here stuck to drinks (full bar) that first visit, indulged in the Mediterranean plate the second visit, then returned back a couple more times for breakfast and use of their wi-​fi. After her first breakfast there she reported that she’d ordered soft-​boiled eggs and received three sunny side up eggs so that speaks, perhaps, to that service thing. Still, she kept returning.
Warm feeling place, very popular with the neighbors, excellent food. I wish there were an Al Hamra down the next block from me back at home.

Al Hamra ist eine außergewöhnliche arabische Bar im Helmholtzkiez.
Sie bietet leckere Speisen, sowohl Shishas und auch musikalische Unterhaltung an.
Passend zum Kiez ist diese Bar sehr gemütlich, alternariv und authentisch eingerichtet. Das Personal ist sehr herzlich und sehr aufmerksam.
Solche Bars machen einfach Prenzlauer Berg aus :-)
Die Shisha hat mit nicht so geschmeckt, aber die frische Teesorten haben es mir sehr angetan!

Gehe da seit Jahren hin, ist praktisch mein Wohnzimmer! Immer wieder schön! Man fühlt sich heimisch.
Preise sind vom Niveau ähnlich zu den umgebenen Läden — keine Abi-​Bar würde ich sagen. Das spiegelt sich auch im Publikum wieder, einfach erwachsener.
Im Sommer hat man wunderbaren Biergartenflair und im Winter kann man sich schön geschützt in den Keller setzen.

Das Al Hamra hat nicht so tolle Lage, da in Sommer man wenigstens paar Sonnenscheine abkriegen will und nicht in kompletten Schatten sitzen mag! Was Speisekarte anbetrifft, handelt sich um überteuerte Falafelgerichte, die als eine Falle für Touristen dient, die in Obergeschoss sich Apartments anmieten! Getränke lassen sich zu wünschen, Kaffee wurde ich keinem empfehlen!! Das einzige was den Laden am Leben haltet, ist das angenehme Personal durchweg!

This is THE PLACE to brunch (for me) in Berlin. I’ve been here for years and still have not found a place that can compare with the freshness and selection of food.
The service is quite adequate for Berlin… Not to mention Prenzlauer Berg. This place has been around since before the tight ass yuppies took it over. Nevertheless, most of the people that go there are pretty relaxed.

Das Al Hamra ist eine dieser Kneipen, die nicht durch Außergewöhnlichkeit überzeugen, sondern durch Lässigkeit, Verlässlichkeit und Charme aus der Hommus-​Hüfte. Es gibt gutes arabisches Essen, gemütliche Sitzplätze drinnen wie draussen, eine lange Theke und freundliches Personal.
Im Sommer sitzt man draußen beim Bier oder einer Grapefruit-​Schorle auf dem Gehsteig und genießt das Treiben mit blick auf den Helmholtzplatz. Im Winter wird es ein frischer Minztee oder ein Gin Toni. Die Abende im Al Hamra sind meist lange, die halbe Nachbarschaft scheint hier zu sitzen, man teilt den Tisch, mitunter auch das Gesprächsthema. und so redetet man und schaut und redet und schaut und — bestellt die nächste Runde.
Im Untergeschoss lässt sich das ein oder andere kleine Konzert genießen oder auch die eigene Party feiern. Und oben stehen in einer Ecke tatsächlich noch Computer mit Internetzugang, an die sich immer wieder Touristen (?) verirren.

wem eine spontane reise in die arabischen emirate zu teuer ist, der kann mal hier vorbeifahren, um doch noch die atmosphäre eines arabischen cafés zu geniessen. bei einer apfel-​schischa und einem minztee mit zimt kann man hier entspannt abschalten.
die bar besteht aus dem oberen bereich im erdgeschoss mit sitzplätzen draußen, sowie einem keller, der mit gedämmten licht und couchen sehr gemütlich ist.
das speisenangebot reicht von nachos über belegtes baguette bis hin zum fallafel teller mit hummos und oliven mit fladenbrot.
longdrings ab ca. 5 euro, cocktails ab ca. 6,50 relativ preisgünstig. an wochenenden hat man im keller relativ häufig auch live musik!

Regelmäßig da. Abends tolle Atmosphäre. Preise sind okay und immer sehr freundliches Personal.

My companion and I wanted brunch: it was a holiday, I didn’t have to work, and the morning was lazy. So we trekked all the way to Prenzlauer Berg (I live on the other side of town with the widows) to try out something new. I haven’t been to this café before, and I wanted to try their breakfast offerings.
As it was drizzling, we opted to sit inside, albeit at the table next to the open window. Our table was this old converted sewing machine table, those ones where you operate by pedaling back and forth with this metal contraption at the bottom. It now has a second life as a table in this café.
Contrary to Kenny N’s review, there are no English menus, at least, I asked, and the waitress said no. So I translated to my companion what they have for breakfast. We ordered the Al Hamra breakfast, as well as the Italian breakfast.
The food was divine. The egg was done perfectly. The cheeses were perfect. The hummus was delightful. The pita was warmed. I kept trying to find something flawed or wrong, and the only thing I could find was that they don’t use fresh mozarella for their dishes; instead, they just use regular mozarella, which in my opinion, not so good of a match to tomatoes and pesto. But that was too small and not enough to lower my rating from 5 to 4 stars.
I will be back. I loved their breakfast, and I loved the setup. I loved the old retro style interior. They even have Internet stations for people to use, and they have free password-​protected wifi. I don’t agree with the other reviewers saying the service was bad; our staff was friendly, and she even spoke English to my companion, who doesn’t speak German.

Salat, den ich gegessen habe war lecker und Bier hat auch geschmeckt. Atmosphäre sehr angenehm.

al hamra is a place where i really like to hang out, both inside (cozy sofas, dim light) and outside (sitting at one of the small tables, watching the people passing by). even if it’s well-​frequented it’s quite a relaxed place to go. the food is good (ok, you’re still in berlin but it’s for sure above average) and nothing can beat their homemade mint-​lemonade. oh and on sundays they have a big brunch buffet. not much more to say, recommended!

Räumlichkeiten Irgendwie wirkt im Al Hamra das ganze Mobiliar schon sehr
abgenutzt und versessen, da die Sessel und Sofas auch bei meiner Oma hätten
stehen können. Alternativer Charme ganz klar. Gemütlich ist es trotzdem und
passt zum größtenteils jungen Publikum. Dazu teilweise bunt beklebte Wände im Untergschoss, wo man
Wasserpfeife rauchen darf und große Fenster im Obergeschoss. Natürlich gibt’s
auch draußen Plätze. ¹⁄₁ Service Irgendwie sehr gechillt und witzig. Trotzdem nicht verplant,
jederzeit greifbar und schnell im servieren. ¹⁄₁ Essen und Trinken Man kann hier frühstücken oder tagsüber arabische
Spezialitäten in Form von Wraps oder Salaten zu sich nehmen. Dazu gibt es ein riesiges Sortiment an Getränken (Kaffeespezialitäten
gibt’s auch mit Sojamilch, Cocktails, Longdrinks, Schnäpse, Softdrinks, Wein,
). Wer einfach nur ein wenig entspannen möchte, kann dies auch
bei einer Wasserpfeife tun, welche wirklich gut zubereitet wird. ²⁄₂ Preis– und
Leistungsverhältnis Das Essen kann ich leider nicht beurteilen, aber die Preise
wirken sehr hoch. So kosten die Wraps 4,90Euro und die weiteren angebotenen
Gerichte 7,90−8,90 Euro (hauptsächlich Salatkreationen). Auch die Shisha hat mit 7,50Euro aufwärts (bis über 10Euro) oder
ein großes Bier für 3,50Euro sind sehr stolze Preise. Normale Preise bei den Cocktails und Wein: Alkoholfreie
Cocktails kosten 5,50Euro und mit befinden sie sich zwischen 6 – 8,50Euro. Wein
(0,2l) beginnt bei 3,50Euro. Jedoch finde ich, dass eine so alternativwirkende Kneipe
doch gerne ihre Preise etwas nach unten korrigieren kann. ⁰⁄₁ Fazit Eine nette Kneipe im alternativen Chic mit Preisen wie in
einem durchschnittlichen Prenzl Berger Restaurant. Die angenehme Atmosphäre,
welche durch den netten Service begünstigt wird, lädt zum Verweilen ein.

Das Al Hamra ist eine wirklich nette und gemütlcihe Bar im Prenzelberg. Man kommt rein, wird nett begrüß und zumindest ich fühle mich immer gleich wohl! Und das ist erst recht so, wenn man runter in den noch gemütlicheren Keller geht. Überall Sofas zum hinchillen, man kann Shishas bestellen und Rauchen ist auch erlaubt. Die Bedienungen sind immer freundlich und irgendwie auch immer zur Stelle wenn man etwas zu trinken bestellen will! :) Die Cocktails sind lecker und das Preis-​Leistungsverhältnis wirklich fair! Ich bin immer wieder gerne im Al Hamra und gebe daher auch gerne 5 Sterne!

War heute zum Mittagessen da und fand es sehr lecker. Portionen sind gut gross, Zutaten sind frisch und der Eistee ist echt gut.
Ich hatte die frittierten Bällchen mit Lammfleischfüllung, mit 7,50 Euro nicht gerade billig als Mittag. Für den hohen Preis gibt es dann auch einen halben Stern Abzug. den anderen halben Stern ziehe ich für die Salatsauce ab, die viel zu sauer war.
Naja, aber die Bedienung war echt freundlich und das Ambiente ist sehr Wohnzimmerig-​Chillig.

I love the food but they have a serious service problem. Sometimes they are nice and friendly, but last time i was here they didnt even bring me the card, i was sitting there for 40 minutes right in front of the bar and they didnt treat me at all. And im a friendly guy And i love their food. Too bad!

We walked a very long time in Berlin looking for a restaurant with affordable prices, vegetarian and meat offerings, and enough outdoor seating for our group. We discovered Al Hamra.
I ordered the Hummos Hanchen and a Radler. Apparently, the Radler is a Berlin thing — beer and lemonade. It is an unusual flavor. The Hummos Hanchen was wonderful with its grilled chicken’s slightly spiced exterior and juicy interior. The hummus was presented in the center with oil and spice. Cucumber, tomato and jalapeño slices finished this plate.
Service was friendly. Our waiter did not use a notepad, so we were notably impressed with his memory. They do have English menus.

Location: located in the center of excitement of prenzlauer berg. A very hip area of berlin. Many other clubs and bars in the area.
Food: for the arabic food experts, it is only a few notches over the average. For the average Joe, it is probably seen as very good quality.
there is shishas available, and the lower flour turn into a cool party location or a mini concert area at some days of th week.
Service: below average. Often unfriendly, basic at best.
Nevertheless, the location makes a great place to hang out, do some work using their WiFi connection while enjoying some arabic raki, or flirting with the mean cute ladies hanging around…4 stars.

Das Al Hamra bietet drinnen als auch draußen gemütliche Sitzplätze und zudem noch im Keller eine Bühne, auf der ab und zu Konzerte stattfinden.
Gäste meistens zwischen 20 und 30, mal zu Zweit aber auch in größeren Gruppen. Selbst in der Woche war es fast bis auf den letzten Platz voll.
Zu empfehlen ist der hausgemachte Eistee mit frischer Minze (3,50EUR).
Gegessen habe ich die Hähnchenpfanne (6,50 EUR). Ich bekam einen Teller mit einem großen geformten Haufen Reis, zusammen mit Hähnchen, Gemüse und leckeren typisch arabischen Gewürzen. Dazu war noch eine kleine Schale mit Tzatziki. Geschmacklich sehr gut, leider war das Hähnchen ein bisschen fest und trocken.

Die wollen cool sein drum sei es noch stärker wenn nicht, sehen sie dich nicht. Was eine komische Szene.

When I first arrived in Berlin in early October of last year, I was shocked by how cold it was already. With it being in the 70s back home (both homes, KC and NYC), I was ill prepared for weather hovering around 50 °F.
Bring on the dreary, rainy early evening, for the ultra warm and cozy interior of Al Hamra beckoned, the Aurora Borealis of Prenzlauer Berg.
Get it: dim lighting, candles on each table, walls painted in rich tones and the smells of coffee, cigs, and delicious food all combined so that I felt like I had just stepped back into the womb of my mother, had she been Omma Kolsoum, the Egyptian Billie Holiday.
Now for the food. Berlin has its share of doner stands, what NYers call Falafel joints, and although many people swear by the delicious offerings contained within, as a vegetarian, I beg to differ. For starters, in Berlin doner stands do the unthinkable: they serve falafel with *mayo* instead of tahini. A travesty!
I digress. The best Middle Eastern food I had in Berlin was at Al Hamra, in large part to the lovely atmosphere, true, but the food, it was so damn good! They didn’t only have the standard Middle Eastern fare, either, but some of the best nachos I’ve ever had (I think I put on about 5 pounds eating here repeatedly over the span of 2 weeks). I also had a panini that was utterly delicious as well.
Their drinks were absolutely *die*vine. I’m a huge fan of glühwein and Al Hamra’s was just right. Nothing like drinking hot wine in cold weather. It makes it not only bearable but enjoyable!
Other lovely things about Al Hamra: free wireless, decent outlets, computers if you come without your own, friendly waitstaff that don’t hate you for not being fluent in German (I wish, sadly, I can barely manage a few words), excellent coffee drinks and I do recall them having soymilk, too.
I can’t wait to return to Berlin, surely my favorite European city, and spend some chilly evenings in the warm embrace of Al Hamra.

Die Shisha Bar ist eine, die wirklich sehr schön und gemütlich ist. In toller Wohnzimmeratmosphäre kann man hier abhängen und rauchen. Wenn man seine Ruhe haben will, sollte man lieder tagsüber kommen und das freie WLAN oder die Rechner nutzen, denn Abends ist es immer recht voll hier.
Zur WM gab es natürlich auch hier eine Leinwand, da es so bewuem ist und man sich rumlümmeln kann, war es besonders entspannt.
Das Personal wurde, so viel ich weiß, seit langem nicht mehr gewechselt. Das macht es sehr kompetent und sympathisch. Man merkt, dass sie sich mit allem auskennen und einem jede Frage, die man hat, geduldig beantworten können.
Besonders zu empfehlen ist die selbst gemachte Minze-​Ingwer Limonade. Besonders in den heißen Sommertagen ein MUSS!
An Sonntagen gibt es immer einen Brunch für 7,50 Euro bis zum gnädigen vierten Glockenschlag am Nachmittag.

Zu sechst betraten wir gegen 11 Uhr abends die orientalische Shisha-​Bar. Zum draußen Sitzen war es zu kalt, also nahmen wir drinnen Platz und wunderten uns, dass keine Shishas zu sehen waren. Wir bestellten alle Eistees und Limos, weil die Auswahl auf der Speisekarte sehr ansprechend ist, Minze ist sehr zu empfehlen, nur Eine bestellte Bier.
Von der Bedienung haben wir erfahren, dass der Raucherbereich im Keller ist, wo wir uns nach den leckeren Eistees auch hinbegaben. Dort waren neben einer Leinwand auch sehr gemütliche Sitzgelegenheiten, von denen aus man vor kurzem noch Bayern gegen Bremen schauen konnte.
Die Shisha war zwar nicht gerade billig, aber brannte dafür schön lange. Sehr zu empfehlen.

Al Hamra is a restaurant/​café that is definitely worth a visit.
I am quickly becoming a regular here, especially the Sunday brunch buffet for EUR7.40 offers a great variety of tasty dishes, both oriental and continental (the scrambled eggs are excellent!).
But even during the week this is a great place for a tasty oriental lunch.

This was the restaurant I was eating in when I decided to move to Berlin! It was January 2008 and I was having brunch with a big group of people. The Sunday Brunch is quite good at 7+ euros. We stayed the whole It’s got a Moroccan feel and the food is quite nice. I also watched the Eurocup final here and was one of the only Spain fans but it didn’t matter :)

This place earns most of the stars for it’s atmosphere inside.
Great vibe here, alternative, but classy, and the couches and sofa chairs offer comforts you find at home. The inner décor is very middle-​eastern and contributes to the comfortable vibe.
Coffee is excellent, as is their cheesecake. I’ve heard their prices are steep, but honestly, I hadn’t noticed even though I was financially impotent at the time :-/​
Highly recommended for something good off the beaten path.
