As a fish lover, I am highly critical by nature of anything fish– or seafood-related, but Yakamoz exceeded every expectation I could have possibly had of a fish restaurant! When we called in for a reservation, they were just closing the restaurant, but they remained open just for us! The fact that we had the restaurant all to ourselves, with 4 waiters serving us and only us, added of course to the magic. But it was also a good indication of the friendly and hospitable nature of Turkish people. The location of the restaurant is just breathtaking, next to the Bosphorus, and surrounded by thousand lights, you really feel as if you’re in the Venice of the Near East, and you can vividly picture the Ottoman emperors arriving here on enormous ships from their numerous conquests and trade missions. On to the food, which was marvellous. I had a fish soup for starters(which is one of my favourite dishes — so you had better make that right in order to score), which was very light, digestible and full of taste, just the way it should be! Then we had some ‘mezze’, some fish balls,(pieces of fish rolled in bread crumbs, baked in oil), which were sooo deliciously crispy! As main course, we had fish of course, which tasted so fresh you would start doubting whether the waiters had just caught it from the Aegean with their own bare hands! All in all, if you’re looking for a fancy fish restaurant in Istanbul at a breathtaking location, Yakamoz is top of its category!
