Klemuri

Fit for foodies. Klemuri is a small place with very personal service. While located in the Taksim area, the location is quiet (we were here on Saturday night). Most of the patrons seemed to be locals.
Menu is not the standard Turkish fare. A lot a Greek/​Black Sea (which is historically Greek) influence. We had several of the small plates, green salad and several of the meat, chicken and fish entrees. Everything was unique and delicious. They offer some well-​paired regional wines. Everything was moderately priced. Would definitely go here again.

I discovered this little gem via the wonderful people of Unilocal (thank you!) and my sister and I went here on our last night together in Istanbul.
As if the city isn’t wildly inspiring enough, this adorable hidden spot off the beaten path (but still very close to it) combined style with some of the most delicious food I’ve had to date. Situated in what looks like someone’s old apartment — you enter in the small kitchen, pass through what looks like a dining room into a room that probably was a living room — you are surrounded by the charms of home. A bookcase — once a china cabinet, I’m guessing — displays awards Klemuri has received over the years. Tasteful art decorates the walls. The menu is option after option of things you feel like you just HAVE to try. I had the meatballs wrapped in filo dough — I savored every bite! My sister had a chicken dish that was also lick-​the-​bowl good. We drank wine, it was fantastic.
It’s the perfect date spot, or place to bring family if you’re hosting.

Great vegan and vegetarian options. Good food, generous portions and reasonable prices.

I went here after I read the good reviews here on Unilocal.It lived up to my expectations, the restaurant has a nice atmosphere and the food I had was really good (I had the Georgian ravioli). The waiters were not overly friendly, but OK. I would definitely go back here again to try the other dishes on the menu.

Great little place. This was easily our favorite meal in Istanbul.

Step out of the hustle and bustle of Istiklal Cad and into a tranquil environment where you will enjoy fresh and flavorful dishes. Service was kind and friendly and fit with the setting. The haloumi cheese and rocket salad was great-​tasting and a balanced blend. Goulash was a good change of pace from other Istanbul meat dishes and the yoghurt soup was tart, rich and full of tasty greens. For a real beverage treat, try the lemonade! The restaurant is not as hard to find as others have suggested – but be sure to map out your journey in advance and enjoy!

The food here was phenomenal. The meatballs in phillo were a hit for everyone and the Mediterranean appetizer of hummus and olive/​tahini can’t be missed. Wonderful service, cozy environment and a fantastic Syrah/​Tempranillo wine from Iznik made this a truly wonderful evening in Istanbul.

We came here after looking around on Unilocal to find a different style of Turkish food than we have had the first week in Istanbul.
The service was okay. Of course our Turkish is limited and the waitress’s English was limited, but it was good. Turkish restaurants tend to have slow and relaxed service, but we were not in a hurry that night, so it was fine with us to talk next to the window.
I got the meatballs in pastry that other reviewers have mentioned and my fiancé got a chicken dish (I forget the name). Both were wonderful. The taste was a nice break from the salty, fried food that we have found elsewhere. We topped it off with some wine (Greek?).
By the way, we were underwhelmed by the hummus plate. It was «meh». It tasted like it was from a jar, nothing spectacular.
We paid 65TL for everything; pretty good for a nice meal near Taksim square!

I found Klemuri on Unilocal while I was visiting Istanbul. We didn’t want to eat at the typical tourist places so with the help of the Unilocalers before me and the kind assistance of our concierge at the Ritz Carlton, we set out on foot armed with hunger and a directions card.
The staff is FANTASTIC! Warm, friendly, efficient, and attentive.
The food is EVEN BETTER! We had the Mediterranean Plate for appetizers and then various lamb and chicken dishes for the entrees. All was great!
The place itself is small and warm, simple and elegant.
I’m so glad it worked out so well because we had a heck of a time finding this place. It almost took the village so I’m thankful Klemuri’s neighbors were all so nice. Here’s your tip: Go to the end of the street, keep an eye out for a small white sign hanging on a wrought iron gate and then turn right to the front door. (posting sign picture)

First, staff. They are wonderful. Forgot to charge me for a beer and when reminded they said it was on the house. Unlike the typical restaurant, they go light on the salt and bells and whistles. Instead, they offer what tastes like home made food, albeit a very very neat, clean, and local food source variation thereof. Highly recommended. Menu offered in English. And, yes, they drink their own awesome wines.

Sehr schöner alter Raum mit Stuck und Dielen. Das Essen war hervorragend! Türkische Spezialitäten, fein abgeschmeckt, super lecker. Wir haben ein türkisches Käsefondue mit Maisgries drin gegessen, sowas bekommt man sonst wahrscheinlich nur schwierig und es war exzellent. Am Wochenende kann es auf Grund des Clubs darunter oder daneben laut werden, evt. eher tagsüber oder unter der Woche gehen (aber die Gegend ist nunmal immer laut…).

Fantastic hole-​in-​the-​wall place with an exceptionally nice and attentive waitstaff. Klemuri has a cozy-​but-​elegant atmosphere that exudes a home-​like charm. We loved our first visit so much that we went back a second time within a week. I had the pan-​fried chicken with chard, which was phenomenal. The spinach salad with dried tomatoes (and fresh pomegranate) was equally delicious.

Favorite dish: the Pan fried chicken with chard. Soft meat and very delicious tast

We looked into the place from the street and thought we try it for dinner. It was such a pleasant experience. The food was fantastic, delicious and elegant, while the staff were friendly and accommodating.
