If you know anything about Mexican food, you’ll know this place is a joke. I know, they don’t aspire to be authentically Mexican –as their menu proudly proclaims«inspired by the Taquerias in Mission district” — but even for Mission district standards, Zocalo fails. I mean, lettuce in tacos covered in some strange white and pink sauce? What is this? A salad? More insulting for Mexicans, they use fake Swedish tortillas(probably by Santa Maria… the company that singlehandedly destroyed Mexican food in Sweden and continues to insult Mexican food with products like taco tubes.) that tastes like sugar, absolutely disgusting. Their neighbor La Neta actually uses corn tortilla produced with authentic Mexican masa. They should learn a thing or two from them about how Mexican food should look/taste instead of selling the fakes.

Two more stars for a fantastic CEO — who reached out after my review and offered some gift certificates to try Zocalo one more time. This was so very much appreciated! It’s fantastic to know that a business owner is looking to improve their business and take in feedback from their customers! The street tacos were much better than the quesadilla and the burrito! I guess it rings true that you should stick to the basics. Unfortunately, the staff is no better than before, very impatient and unfriendly — perhaps Zocalo should try to steal the staff at the coffee/café shop in the very entrance –those guys exude happiness and friendliness — a major plus in the customers eyes!

It’s a bit better take on Mexican food than for example Taco Bar, but it’s still not mexican food. Almost all the right ingredients are there, but it’s missing the juicy and rich flavor of an abundance of salsa and meat slow cooked in it’s on juices. I’ve had two different burritos and they were ok. A GOOD burrito is a burrito where the rich salsa and meat juices blend and drip all over your hands and down on the table. Needless to say, there was no dripping here. Would give it a 2 star if it wasn’t for the lack of good Mexican food in Sweden.

Much better for tex-mex than Taco Bar. You can order burritos, tacos or quesadillias. They also have beer and margaritas. I had a veggie burrito and the nachos and guacamole. The nachos and guacamole were good, even if the guacamole was one third salsa(I guess it’s their own take on it). They had a lot to do so I had to wait for a bit for my burrito, but they compensated me with the chocolate nachos(sounds weird, but it’s a great dessert!). The veggie burrito was kind of boring, a lot of rice, beans and some other vegetables. Still, I’d recommend this place and I intend to come back to try their pulled pork.
