Pane fresco

Likable food, likable owner. He helped out today as they were understaffed. Not a big deal in terms of service but it was cool to see the owner switch between kitchen and waiting tables. Impressed. Will try again with more food next time. Sucker for Italian food.

I was always curious what they would come up with at the top of Ahlens in the city and this was it.
We went here because we wanted food, and we wanted it meow! No, but really, we just wanted food and this was the place we could all agree on.
Since it was like a day in the middle of the week and not even lunch hour there were hardly any people there. We were seated right across from the gelato counter… how rude! The waitress took our order, and was utterly confused by the fact that I sometime spoke English and sometime Swedish so she was talking Swedish to our English speaking company. That made us giggle.
I ordered pasta with steak (or something like it) I can’t remember since it’s been a while since we were there. The food was hot when it came to the table but I had to eat it cold (thank you son for getting hungry right as the food comes to the table). We ended up ordering gelato and it was probably the best I’ve had in a while.
I think, when we went, that they were still getting accustomed to everything. Like the waitresses and stuff. They seemed a little … out of it? Or am I just to used to American standard? could be.
The price was high like the other reviewer mentioned but I guess that’s what you get when you go to a place which is owned by a «celebrity»
I’ll most likely go back, if not for the food then absolutely for the gelato.

Pane Fresco is not a new concept. Elegant decoration with elegant people serving good Italian food. The restaurant was busy on a Tuesday evening, and had a good vibe. The service was friendly and it didn’t take long for the food to come.
So why the three stars? I believe it is well overpriced for what it offers. The staff was nice but it doesn’t make you feel special. The food was good but not extraordinary. And I do was satisfied in the end, but not amazed.
It surely is a good place to hang out, in dead center Stockholm and maybe have a glass of wine, but if you are craving fine Italian food that’s worth the money, there’s better out there.
