Love the excellent use of sweet & sour ingredients in the cooking — reindeer & bleak roe(with sliced potatoes socked in vinegar that tasted like yuzu to me), organic chicken liver with maple syrup just changed my perception for chicken liver as a sweet opening dish, fried mushrooms dumplings with shredded truffles in a salty citrus sauce & finally the Lime sabayonne with madarin sorbet & vanilla ice-cream drizzled with honey, olive oil & pistachios ended off my dinner on an absolutely sweet note :) Very satisfied with all the dishes.

Great stuff. Expert matching of wines and other fluids. Novel, searching and finding. Very obviously clearly world class

My wife and I were seated at the bar where you get to choose from a series of small plates. The food is very good. We had the steamed BBQ style bun; green and yellow peas with sumac; the scallop dish and the Pakistani mango with sorbet. Unfortunately, the food could not make up for the very unimaginative service. It was not a language issue as the server is American and so are we. I just think the guy was too impressed with himself. Also, the bar seats are uncomfortable, the wine pours are stingy for the price. Finally, the servers are required to taste each wine before serving a glass. Good idea except that they have to spit it out and that’s disgusting to watch. Bottom line, a huge disappointment.

Went here for lunch, a la cart menu was very good. Everything in Stockholm is extraordinarily expensive, and their tax system makes it more expensive the NYC or even Tokyo. So if you are going to go there, you mine as well eat at the best places, and this place is one fo the best.

Not worth the SEK12000 dinner bill with wine for Four people. I personally think this restaurant is like the fairytale«the emperor’s new clothes». Dishes were well presented but unnecessarily complicated. I have had much better tasting calamari and langoustines in beach type restaurants. The room is very bland and dull dark in color.

Ive now eaten at all of Chef Dahlgren’s places and each brings their own experience. At Matbaren a leisurely comfortable lunch was to be had. An a la carte menu done with great ingredients like that of the other two concepts. They start you with a small bag of local bread now made at the Green Rabbit Bakery. You are given a tray that has all your utensils, glasses, and a menu. I started with a natural apple drink, a small salad, and then a basket of fresh fish/chips/vegetables. All perfectly cooked and super tasty. Then they follow with some madeleines and some peanut fidge as a petit fours. Luckily I took it easy I knew I was eating two more times soon after(with Matbordet being later) in the day. Service is super friendly and laid back but no less attentive than what you’d expect from any of chef Dahlgren’s places. You just cant go wrong with any of the concepts in the adjacent spaces…

Exquisite! We got to order medium size dishes one by one. The artichoke & caramelized whey and pâté were excellent. The light sauces brought out the character of the ingredients well. The grilled Swedish Squid, and fried organic steak were a nice surprise. We enjoyed the intermix of textures and inventiveness in the dishes. It is located on the ground floor of the Grand Hotel but was informal with a happy atmosphere in the background. Just right!

Went here with a colleague. We came in late from London and he had promised me we were in for a treat. Boy was he right. This is in the basement of the Grand Hotel. I had stayed 10 years in Stockholm and never been. The concept is that you try a «small dish» and yo continue to have small dishes until you are full. The food is nothing short of amazing. We had two dishes each and various wines to go with the dishes Our server was very well educated and gave us really good advise both on dishes and wine. Have to go back next time I am in Stockholm. Great atmosphere and amazing food.

This place has an amazing knack to turn things that look borderline disgusting — to fantastic tasting. Best deal of stockholm. Michelin star quality for the price of a heavy happy hour on the water. Given how expensive we found Stockholm to be, the price tag for this dinner was more than palpable. Pork belly buns are a must. Jewish artichokes with beets were delectable(and i hate vegetables). We finished with a weird sardine with roe dish and that was surprisingly good despite how the parts may taste separately. Head here for a great time. It’s got an amazing balance of seeming upscale but also extremely casual and relaxing.

I’m not one to seek out places with Michelin stars very regularly, but I found myself in this establishment not too long ago and did definitely enjoy the experience. For a restaurant like this there is of course the hype to live up to, as well as good tasting everything and great service. The latter which is fairly difficult to come by in Sweden. But they are almost there, with the service, yay! Friendly, recommending-things-off-the-menu staff checking up almost enough for us to keep busy throughout the tapas-style approach they are doing. Only set-back was the incredibly slow delivery of the check at the end of the night. The menu is easy to navigate – even in english, the interior design of the space is fitting, simple yet stylish, with views of the royal palace and the open kitchen as the most fun aspect. Yes, the food is really good, but in my humble opinion I am going to say the veggie dishes is probably the most fun and exciting constellations they are doing. My favorite for my night was roasted whole beet roots with an artichoke paste and of course a bunch of additional ingredients places like this introduce to make you to go: ooooh, that looks innnnteresting… I probably need that in my life. The beer selection is represented by a few local breweries that could impress more. Also, money.

Solid food and a great atmosphere. The menu is extremely creative and it comes in small portions so you are able to order a lot of different dishes and get a tasting menu feel. I loved everything, including the grilled squid with cucumber. I think that was my favorite of the night. My server was so kind and friendly, and made my solo dining experience so much more fun.

Visited this hip restaurant to experience enlightened and modern Swedish cuisine based on the best seasonal produce and products available. There are proper tables, but, I was seated at their ‘food bar’ that afforded a nice view of the open kitchen concept. The menu is divided up into creative headings for dishes: I chose to focus most of my attention ordering both dishes on offer in their«From the Plant World» section, as well as their amazingly good steamed beef buns from their«From Other Countries» department! Details in each dish matter most here; each dish is expertly constructed, letting the ingredients speak for themselves. The food is served tapas style, one dish after another, no rush, and you order what you like until you feel satisfied. Wines by the glass were all excellent and attractively priced. The service was polished, confident, and still very welcoming and warm(they even surprised me with a sample of alcoholic ginger beer from Scotland, to go along with my beef buns, with compliments, skål!). Finishing with my espresso, I was served delightful petit fours — another nice touch. Details matter here. The design of the restaurant is modern Swedish, cool, a bit off-the-wall and colourful. What is there not to like about Matbaren? This place is a champion of good taste.

Mathias Dahlgren’s Matbaren is definitely one of the best restaurants in Stockholm. Swedish flare at its best. More laid back than the swankier other Dahlgren restaurant beside it– Matsalen – it serves up innovative yet comforting a la carte dishes. Everything from the bread basket, to dessert was perfectly executed and outstanding. Two of the dishes I tried were even vegetarian, and they simply blew me away. We were seated by the bar which gave us a nice view of the kitchen and the staff at work. Food is served in wooden«cafeteria style» trays which goes hand-in-hand with the concept of Matbaren. Reservations go quickly so make sure to book in advance. The service was truly impeccable. The waitress working the tables around the bar was really knowledgeable and her suggestions really matched what I expressed I liked. I highly recommend the following dishes: –Deep fried Potatoes with Baked Egg and Chantrelle Mushrooms –Beet salad with Hazelnuts and Jerusalem Artichoke –Game from Ostermalm with Anchovies –Course Ground rib eye with Comte crème –Farmer’s milk pudding with Cloudberry At the end of our meal, we received complimentary delicious Madeleines as a parting snack. What a sweet ending.

It might not be the kind of place you go to every week but it is definitely worth a visit if you want to celebrate something special. The concept is easy: pick one meal at a time with one main ingredient, be it meat, fish, veggies or dessert. The service was up to what you would expect for the price you pay: knowledgeable and attentive. The steamed beef buns were very tasty. If you are more into vegetarian options, I would highly recommend the crispy potatoes with a baked egg, basil, chanterelles and garlic. As for dessert, the farmer’s milk pudding with cloudberry, vanilla and caramel sorbet was truly delicious !

Boy am I glad braised pork steam buns are making a comeback. We can probably thank Momofuku for the more recent trend, but after I rediscovered them at Pluto in Copenhagen a couple months ago, I simply cannot get enough. You know when something you taste is so good that you forget all form of decorum and blurt out with half masticated food in your mouth that this is the most amazing thing ever? Who cares if it’s a Michelin star restaurant and I’m with business colleagues. Some things just really deserve bad table manners in the form of enthusiastic celebration, and if I wasn’t already celebrating by being given my own personal serving of The Most Delicious Butter Ever to eat with my brown paper bag packaged knäckebröd, and to pair with a fantastically delicious glass of crisp and fresh white wine from the Loire Valley, I was definitely celebrating after my first bite of braised pork. Icing on the cake? Dessert(yes, there’s an intentional pun in there somewhere). Pudding made from milk from Säby Farm, decorated with creams and ice creams and other caramelized treats. As an added bonus because I think my waitress just enjoyed watching me squeal with joy over the good food I was being served, I got an extra bowl of some delicious treats that I actually had to stop eating for fear of discovering the threshold of too much of a good thing in public. Prices are steep(nothing in comparison to Matsalen next door), but totally worth it.

What can i say, worth it’s star. I especially recommend going for the vegetable dishes such as pumpkin and truffle. But the real highlight was the buffaloyogurt with mint sorbe and fresh herbs. Nordic, modern and absolutely delicious!

Really enjoyed the experience. Started with fantastic Swedish squid, sweet tasty, very well cooked. Next up, langoustine, as big as I have seen, fresh, meaty, sweet, delicious Beet root and Jerusalem artichoke purée was a wonder, sweet little beets, the purée was a thing of beauty, visit here for this alone. Finished with a selection of four cheeses, one Swiss three swedes, all ready for consumption, very accomplished cheese course. I sat at the bar, the staff were all superb, knowledge of every dish, top marks. If you are in Stockholm try this Restraunt. I will be back

We set the bar pretty high on our first night in Stockholm. Our research led us here, and, hearing that it was difficult to get into, we were circling like vultures when the doors opened. We scored two seats at the bar and dove in. Dishes are what they like to call«half-portions,» so we went to town on a few. We both started with a memorable terrine of foie gras with artichokes, hazelnuts, and olive oil. For mains, my husband got an open-faced lamb sandwich, and I went with fried sole with baby potatoes and spring vegetables. It was possibly the best riff on a fish-and-chips I’ve had yet. I have to devote some time to the beverages I chose as well. With dinner, I enjoyed a juniper beer, which I believe was a collaboration between Mathias Dahlgren and the St Erik’s Bryggeri. It was totally unique and really delicious. For dessert, I had a vodka that had been doctored with fennel and lemon, and my husband chose an aged Calvados. While we did not specifically order a dessert, we got it anyway. A small basket of miniature madeleines and some cocoa peanut brittle arrived for us to snack on. Service was performed by multiple team members, and they were attentive and more than gracious.

Matbaren serves up some really great Swedish food and I truly enjoy the service as well. It is really a lot more relaxed than Mathias Dahlgren’s more upscale restaurant ‘Matsalen’ so it is place that is well suited for just a casual dinner. The food is really great(may not be really as good as at Matsalen but it is still great). It is also great value for money(at least to be in Sweden). The dishes may not huge but for me I am usually rather full after eating two dishes(they usually recommend 2 – 3 dishes per person) so we often share a dessert after that. It is of course still a Michelin starred restaurant so it will of course not be cheap but it is good value. Despite having a Michelin star the feeling is still very relaxed and casual so no need to dress up to come here. Reservations are recommended but there are always a few tables for walk-ins but to avoid disappointment do book in advance. The service has always been friendly, pleasant and above all knowledgeable when I have been here. The slight disappointment has been the coffee(yes, granted I am a bit of coffee nerd), they have served some rather awful coffee when I have been here. I am not asking for the best ever coffee experience but with so many local Swedish coffee roasters it should be possible to find something other than the mass market stuff.
