First of all, I’m sad to say there is only 5 stars on here. East would get 100 stars if that was an option. The edamame was to die for. The sushi was honestly the best I’ve ever had. Then I reached for the stars and took the Japanese IPA and WOW! It was great. Finished the evening with an 18 yr old Japanese whisky that was actually excellent(and I’m a whisky snob) and their chocolate truffle guaranteeing that I have found my new date night restaurant. The staff was professional, nice, and very good to speak with. I cannot wait for next months date night!

I really adore East’s takeaway system. Eating in the bar or restaurant can be kind of crowded. This is one of the few sushi bars worth visiting in this neighborhood and that actually keeps a high standard. I really recommended this to anyone in the mood for a somewhat experimental sushi experience but with clear roots to what it should taste like.

I had dinner here with friends the other night, my second time here. My first visit was a few months ago for lunch, when I had only the Tom Kai Gai(which was, and is, delicious). After my dinner, though, my feelings for East dropped to… meh. The restaurant itself is well designed, well lit, accommodating, and efficient. We were sat immediately by the friendly, smiling hostess, who walked us through a busy, vibey joint to a nice corner table. Our friendly server immediately took our drinks order, and was back almost as fast. The menu is comprehensive, the dishes having some flair(on paper), and a nice wine list with quite a few ‘by-the-glass’ choices. I ordered the Tempura Roll2& Tom Kai Gai, with my dinner companions ordering the duck, sashimi platter, and dumplings. Its when the food arrived that my heart sank. My Tom Kai Gai was the most attractive(& most delicious), but everything else struck me as «phoning it in», & tasted like it. My tempura rolls were good, though the giant bowl of spicy mayonnaise sauce tasted like it came from a jar, and the seaweed wrapper did not taste fresh. The sashimi: slapped on a plate, with a giant nest of some inedible crap in the middle to fill a big round plate. It was ok at best; the dumplings: weird tasting, on a thick sauce that none of us could identify, none liked, but all agreed had a hint of miso(it was like peas blended to mush, but didn’t taste like peas. In fact, it tasted like nothing, with a hint of Miso); the duck: the presentation was weird, with a stack of Romaine lettuce to create little boats for your DIY experience, that overwhelmed the presentation. But my first taste of the duck made me think something was off. It was sour, and not in a lemongrass-y way. The meat tasted like no duck I’ve ever eaten(& having lived in China for a few years, have eaten a lot of the fuckers). Maybe it was a Skane duck. Or just had a rough life. Anyway, I’m still paying the price a few days later. Don’t eat it. Unless you are dieting. The Tom Kai Gai was heavenly, but I had to share it with those who had ordered the duck. Look, I don’t know if the chef has lost the plot & given up, or he/she was sick & one of busboys assumed the duties and tried their best. But for that kind of scratch, & in Stureplan, we deserve better. That said, its a good, well-run restaurant. Go for lunch and get the Tom Kai Gai.

The Place is quite cool and fun for people watching. Great location!!! But food is overrated and could benefit a lot from more quality + creativity. It is supposed to be a Japanese fusion menu but the very basics are not prepared very well. Rice is over cooked and with too much water, edamame overcooked too, green-tea prepared with much too hot water which makes it bitter… etc. Vegetarian sushi can be more creative for sure… although I love the quinoa instead of rice version. A chilli dish I ordered was soooo hot I couldn’t keep it in my mouth… and when those in my company tried it they asked the waiter to replace it as it was inedible. The guy who served us was super nice… so no complaints there at all. Deserts though are excellent every time. Over all Service is so so… a little too ‘chilly’ and detached, so not bad but could be better. Although most have been quite friendly so far. Still…I go here often because I love Japanese fusion food in general and like the location as well as the ambience and the contemporary interial design of the place.

I had a great lunch here with the CM from Unilocal Stockholm. The sushi wasn’t that amazing but the noodles where superb. Both the glass noodles as the regular ones. I also tried the fried dumplings and the dip was super tasty. Read all about it on:

The Asian themed food is tasty, but expensive. Creativity on sushi is fun! But it’s more about the atmosphere and drinks here. Do not talk to the bouncer though, they aren’t much fun :(

Overrated! This place is so hyped up by all trendy locals. you pay to hang out w cool people rather than for the food.

This is also one of my favourite spots in Stockholm both for food and drinks. The Asian themed food is always delicious. Try the tempura sushi.amazing. Service can be good or bad, hit or miss, but hey the food is worth it.

Great restaurant with a New York Deli bar feel. Total mix up of bars, club, restaurant with pretty good food. Very Expensive but the view is worth every penny.

Das East am Stureplan /Svampen. Trendig.
