I’ve long had a hankering for some good ol’ Texan BBQ and initially thought I’d be pressed hard to find a good option in Stockholm. But as I always say. when in doubt: Unilocal it and once again Unilocal has delivered. Austin Food Works has garnered rave reviews here and I was very excited to be checking this place out. The initial impression when entering this restaurant is that the service is really friendly and similar to what one could expect in the states. The staff definitely found a good balance between being friendly and not being intrusive — so I greatly appreciated that as I believe one of the things that many restaurants in Sweden fail with is just that: good service. So. on to the main event: the food. I had the Texas Style BBQ Meat 3-ways and had it «texan-style», which comes in a larger portion. My friend went on the lighter side and ordered their Poke Tuna Tacos. The BBQ Meat platter consisted of ribs, jalapeño sausage as well as brisket. It was accompanied by jalapeño cheddar corn bread, pickled veggies, a potato salad and a slaw of some sort. I’m a tough critic when it comes to American BBQ, and unfortunately, Austin Food Works failed to impress. The ribs and the brisket were unfortunately dry which I find to be impressive given how fatty those cuts usually are. The corn bread was unfortunately really chewy and dry making it difficult to eat without having a glass of water handy. The sausage was great and packed with flavor. Their slaw and potato salad were definitely a great success: it was fresh and zesty without being overpowering and greasy. I got to try my friends poke tuna and it was really good and it would definitely be something I would order if I came back. It is however ironic that the hero at a BBQ restaurant would be fish tacos. I honestly don’t know if my expectations were too high here — but I was disappointed with the brisket especially which arrived tepid and dry. I’ll probably give this place another shot sometime simply because I often crave American BBQ — and this place seems to be the«go-to» place for that in Stockholm. I feel seriously conflicted about the rating here. and this is one of those times I wish Unilocal had a 3.5 star option, but as they don’t, it’s going to be a 3-star for me.

Went here to celebrate Swedens national day with some american food. Sources told us it was closed, but after a phone call and a few minutes later, they promised us to keep the kitchen open for us an hour more. Once we arrived we were personally escorted to our table which was located in the inner section of the restaurant. The place has really cool décor and it sets a great mood to the dining experience. If it wasnt for the language, you would probably think you just ended up in some good old joint in southern Texas. Menu is pretty straight forward and not too many choices. They all room in a page but offer both pre, main and post choices. We asked for the waiters advice, and she kindly guided us to the best suitable options. Food came quick as it should, but then again, the kitchen was solely for us by this time. No confusions, the starters was magnificent and i would def. recommend the pork spring rolls along with the goat cheese. We had a few different mains as well, but we shared and I got to try them all. The meat plate was good and offered a couple of different meats and flavors. But if you wanna go for the bomb, you should go for the least regular option here in Sweden, Belgian waffles with Chicken. Sounds like a too sweet treat for you? Think again and just get it! Have had this dish in US a couple of times, and its definitely a perfect match! Go here and have a great night, enjoy some food in a cool atmosphere, and leave with a new favourite dish to dream about…

I like this place. They have a very limited menu, with two choices of the day, and some weekly specials. It’s American inspired, but with a twist. Lots of meat, but they often have a vegetarian alternative. The pumpkin festival(or whatever the dish was called) was one of the best veggie dishes I’ve had. The place is often full, the prices are fairly high for the region, but every time I’ve gone there I have thought that it was worth it. The food is just, well, good. And what more can you wish for? I have only been here at lunch, and it’s a great lunch place!

I wanted to give Austin Food Works one more star and update my review! We stopped back in here to have dinner with some pals the other day and had a much better experience. I still love the friendly southern ambiance and their dedication to what I would consider as «more authentic» southern American food. There really is a wealth of traditions and recipes all over the US that vary by location. Did you know that Texan BBQ sauce is more traditionally«old fashioned» and spicy with very little sugar? Most people think of the thick and sweet Kansas City BBQ sauce that uses a ton of molasses as typical American BBQ sauce. Or, how about the South Carolina mustard based BBQ sauce? Fun fact, It traditionally comes from the german settlers mixing in that area! I think people can definitely expand their idea of what great American food is and Austin Food Works helps out a with a small little piece of that. There is a lot of «Texas Longhorn» restaurants in the city, but I think this place is SO much better and more authentic than any of those. I would come here if you want to sample a relaxed Texan style meal that will fill you up to your britches! Last time, I had a lot of issues with their table side BBQ sauce tasting a little too«dry rub like» and not using enough fresh peppers, but this time I steered clear of that tempting little squeeze bottle on the table and everything was super great! The mac and cheese was also awesome and even cheesier this time! It came sans tortilla chips on top this time too! Double yay! =) I still think that their BBQ flavored popcorn is a dud though. I kinda wish they would give you those Texas Roadhouse rolls with the cinnamon butter on the side or some cheddar garlic steakhouse biscuits instead of that yucky little popcorn bucket as a starter. That would definitely be more authentic! ;) Everything else is really great here though! I will definitely be back. =) Their Brunch and Taco Sunday are also phenomenal! I also noticed that they have weekly specials that offer some interesting options that I would keep an eye on. They had a few interesting american beers from breweries i’ve never heard of(there’s like a million bajillion small breweries these days.) I also liked their interesting selection of margaritas! If you can get over your Stockholm sticker shock on the prices of food over here, you will really like this place! I highly recommend the chicken and waffles, mac and cheese, guac and chips, fish tacos and sweet potato fries! yum-tastic! TIP: This is the only place I can find good guac and chips in Stockholm!!!

Just ate a wonderful dinner here! I have lived my whole life in Austin with the exception of the last 10 months in Stockholm. I will thrilled to hear about this restaurant and it definitely exceeded my expectations. The food tasted pretty darn close to the«real thing.» I started with guac and chips, which was authentic. Then had the meat sampler, Mac n cheese, and corn salad. The brisket tasted surprising good so we asked what kind of wood they smoked the meet with and they said they get mesquite wood shipped from the U.S. to them. I find it quite impressive they make the effort to use the right kind of wood! We finished with the the Oreo shake which could have been better, but all in all I’m really impressed with this place! And the service was friendly! I will be coming back for sure.

So underwhelmed. In a way this is a very authentic American experience. It reminds me exactly of the feeling of eating cheap, crappy bar food — except this ends up being 3x the price. The quality and taste of the meat was actually good, but either the portions are too little in the case of the Austin Meat Sampler(whatever it’s called) or the presentation is poor. For instance, the beef comes between two thick buns that were flash fried and the fries were dripping in grease. The mac and cheese, which is a very fair way to judge an American joint, was just okay. Not up too par. They just threw bacon at it and prayed it made it special. They need to doctor the cheese mixture a bit and scale back on the bacon and then it will be pretty decent. One man’s opinion. Other American inspired places in Stockholm bring home the good stuff from the States while scaling back on the bad(think American style burgers with grass fed, locally prepared beef). This place will just make you diabetic and fat. No thanks and see ya never again!

Probably the best American restaurant in Stockholm. Fun and inspiring menu and you will not find the usual boring burgers and steaks. All we have had so far has been well cooked and tasted great. Large portions and prices very reasonable for Stockholm.

I went to AFW because I am a meat-lover! :) While I waited for my food, I tried their guacamole… Not as good as my mother’s but still, a nice soft guacamole. Then, my BBQ selection arrived! Served in a sheet of paper… :) I don’t know about you, but I normally save the food I like the most to last, so I can keep the flavour in my mouth. So I started with the pork, because I love beef… As I tried the pork… WOW! What a wonderfull pork! The combination of good meat, good seasoning, good cooking and good gravy! Then the beef parts… Also wonderfull!!! AFW is not one of tho$e place$ one can come everyday. Quality comes with a price. But it’s a price I am willing to pay once in a while with no regrets!
