The Blue Bicycle is a very nice place to eat in York. If you love freshly caught, well prepared fish, then definitely make a reservation at this friendly, nice restaurant. The staff are extremely friendly and the food was amazing! Plus they had a nice wine list, and the staff are really interested in making recommendations of you are a little confused.
Perfect for groups, dates, or individuals, the blue bicycle is definitely the place to go in York, especially if your looking for a nicer environment.

Without question, this was one of the best meals that I have had in the UK. From bread, to appetizer, to salmon special, the meal was a treat! I will be returning here. Only drawback was the fact that an optional 18% ‘house charge’ was added to the bill, which does not go to the staff. We opted not to pay the 18% and paid a cash tip instead. Shame on the Blue Bicycle for this charge (even the waitress could not explain what it is for)!

I read all the reviews and decided on balance to give it a try. I am really glad I did. A real food lovers dream. I really didn’t think it expensive rather value for money considering the quality of the ingredients and the chef’s skill.

Great atmosphere, food good, but was not as great as would be expected given the price. Not child friendly — a quite smug response of ‘we don’t have any’ when we asked for a highchair. Unlikely to return.

Lovely quaint restaurant down fossgate. Nestled next to the River Foss the restaurant has great character. Food is good, though a little over priced in my opinion. Recommend for that more special evening!

Overall — a disappointing experience having read the reviews. Nice place, nice atmosphere and good service but mediocre food for the price. We had crab croquettes which didnt taste of crab, ‘thai’ marinated salmon which probably had been marinated in water as it was pretty tasteless. Mains were slightly better (and the wine was good) but overall at nearly £90 for the two of us (and we didnt have a dessert) — I would have expected a wow factor that just wasnt there — nice evening but we wont be going back

A much appreciated restaurant and one locals are very fond of. The blue bicycle is a thriving, energetic intimately spaced location, which welcomes diners with its transparent service and up-to-date menu and drinks.
A cute gimmick is the blue bicycle that is chained up outside the property (in case those that cannot read a sign ever need directing).
Plenty of fish and game in season and weighty variety for such a petite place.
A bistro worthy of your custom.

The Blue Bicycle is a charming restaurant in York with excellent service and beautiful décor.
I went there with my two best friends for New Years Eve, the service was fantastic and the prices were reasonable (for three struggling students!) The food was delicious and we managed to squeeze into one of their tables in a little cave in the wall. However I wouldn’t recommend one of these tables for more than two people. I also wouldn’t particularly recommend it for children, but they may well have a different menu for them if you call ahead.
Overall it was clean, friendly, the staff were knowledgable and I would definitely eat there again.
