This was our last stop after checking out many of the pubs in the center of York, and we were very glad we stopped by! It’s a pretty genuine old English pub, and has a very historic and traditional feel if that’s the type of place you’re looking for. It’s not very big, and the ceilings are pretty low. The bartender was very friendly, and there were only a few people in here at peak hours on a Saturday night. It’s not a raging popular place, but they had a lot of space for us to have a relaxed end of our night, in a very interesting place with a few great drinks.

This is a cosy traditional pub in York, a short walk from the shopping area/old town. It’s a rather small place, but pleasant, old-fashioned — and the staff are nice, too. There’s a number of hand-pumped ales available, among them(appropriately) «Lion» by Hook Norton, which I do recommend. The furniture and general décor are as traditional as British pubs get. As a consequence, the patrons are a wee bit older on average compared to the larger, tourist-y pubs in the city centre. Recommended.

Good local pub with good grub. Definitely worth bringing the paper in and having a couple pints. Good atmosphere for small groups. Essentially, the quintessential pub. If this were in my neighborhood I’d be there several times a week and the owners would know my name. If you’re spending some time in York it is worth the time spent on a nice walk there. They are outsider friendly as well.

last stop home, before catching the bus home! steep steps to get to the entrance, though its well sign posted? one of the strangest ways to get into a pub, i’ve ever come across! go down some steep stairs, through a nice sized beer garden, down a short ally way and do a sharp left turn for the entrance! like most places in york on a monday night the place was empty! but the barman was chatty enough and drinks seemed fairly priced! the interior was like a ye olde worlde pub, quiet cosy looking and the toilets where very well kept and clean.
