I have been to this lovely pub in a great location a few times before, today I went with my two grown up daughters after a walk on Thurstaston common. We called in for a light bite and a drink to warm up! one of my daughters ordered the smoked salmon a prawn sandwich, it came with a salad as did the other two was like going back to the seventies limp salad leaves and a cherry tomato with mould on it!!! all the tomatos looked like they had been cut in half a couple of days before as they had started to shrivel. come on guys!!! I know it’s winter and not really salad season but it can be bought fresh and used on the day! I am from the area and thankfully not a tourist. after replacing the mouldy tomato a reduction in the bill or a free drink would of been a nice gesture but not even that was offered.

Went for our christmas get together to the Cottage Loaf all tables pushed together and nicely laid out all christmassy with crackers on table, food was excellent, a variety of soup, prawn cocktails etc for starters, main meals were Turkey with all the trimmings, Duck, or Beef and a variety of sweets and coffee and truffles food was excellent and service ws excellent by the waiters and waitress but the atmosphere was dreadful not a bit of music on about 6 people in the pub they left and then we were getting rushed out as if to say you have finished your meals go home!!! It spoilt a good meal, we will certainly be looking for a different christmas venue this year.

A nice pub in the middle of Thurstaston countryside. Popular with walkers and they do a Ramblers Special in the week. Typically normal pub food, fish n chips, steak, pies, etc. at reasonable prices. Drinks are an average price. The pub itself is very large with good service and a friendly manager. There are large couches near the bar area which brings the pub up to a more modern standard than it has been for a few years. Can accomodate large parties and buffets if needed. Dogs welcome OUTSIDE in the large beer garden which you can have food served to. Overall a nice country pub
