The Dee View Inn is a strange little drinking hole, in a prime location. The view from outside this place is breathtaking! On a clear day, you can see right over the Dee to Wales! But inside it’s quite a ‘local’ place; it’s the kind of place that doesn’t seem overly friendly with strangers. This behaviour always baffles me with a pub. When I used to manage a wine bar, you welcomed new blood around the bar because you’d get fed up talking to the same old people! No messing around in this place either, as it’s well known as the watering hole of all the local police! But nevertheless, the beers good, the views are great, they have a full bar and plenty of comfortable seats. It’s the kind of pub you can quite easily relax in and enjoy the crossword of a good book. It’s not a party place!

Tremendous old pub, located on a ‘blink-or-you’ll-miss it hairpin bend, on the road down to lower Heswall. Now completely smoke-free(the pub beforehand was seemingly occupied almost exclusively by members of ASH its only bad point) the air is now clean and fresh, and you can enjoy the wide range of real-ales and guest beers, together with the reliable hot-meals menu, without worrying about developing emphysema in old age. The décor is that of a traditional old-fashioned pub(but not in any cringeworthy ‘re-creation’ style. This looks authentic) with plenty of stools along the bar, and comfortable group seating throughout. There are tables outside for warmer days, and some spaces for off-road parking. Yes its cheaper to drink at home these days, but this is a reminder of why people wanted to spend their evenings in pubs in the first place: it’s friendly and convivial. Beer fiends? I recommend the ‘Timothy Taylor’s Landlord’.
