Shambolic. 1hr 30 mins to be told we couldn’t have afternoon tea and then to lose our tea and sandwiches order. This once great hotel has descended into chaos. Avoid.

I travel to Slough for business, so stay in Windsor as a tradeoff. If this hotel had to compete with top drawer options, I would never stay here. Having said that, I’ll give it 2 stars given the local choices. On the plus side: the location is wonderful, scenic, and v nice if you are spending time at/near the hotel. As I am traveling on business, the location is nice but not a major driver — if you’re a tourist this would be a big plus. The restaurant overlooks the river — very scenic; food is ok. Also on the plus side — the fitness center is really very good, especially for Europe! And last having a hot water kettle in the room is very much appreciated. On the minus side: the bed mattress sucks — I’m still getting over a back pain from it. The TV sucks — no channel choices to speak of, and the remote and TV are practically not on speaking terms. The bathroom is what is typical in Europe — narrow tubs, no real ability to keep water from splashing out, no area to put your things. And bonus: steps from the bedroom to the bathroom will keep you on your toes when going to the bathroom in the dark in middle of the night — a fall waiting to happen!

Not terrible for the price, but I’d say it’s marketed as a much nicer place than it actually is.

We did not stay in the main body of the Hotel — but across the street, accessed down an alley next to a flower shop. Downside? As it rained on the days we stayed — we had to go outside to cross the street for breakfast. The rooms were supposed to be adjacent — they were but accessed by an iron fire escape. We really did enjoy our stay — this unusual part of our stay — only added to the childrens enjoyment. Great room — great food, great staff.

This place was a huge disappointment. I was really excited about staying in a hotel named after a famous architect. It is rumored to be his house. The website certainly made it look interesting but I guess only if you’re paying out big bucks to stay there because the best room rate meant they stuck you in the back of the hotel through narrow corridors and up and down stairs. The room was generic but roomy. The view was a brick wall. Bathroom did not have proper ventilation. Hot water from the hot water-spout was really hot so be careful. They turned us away for dinner at their restaurant when we told them we did not have reservations. They claim the restaurant was fully booked. The restaurant over looks the Thames River and we walked past the terrace restaurant and the restaurant was not fully booked. There were hardly any people there. Parking was awful. They have limited parking but advised to use the public car park next to the train station. Well, the public car park also had limited parking too and we had to troll around for almost an hour before landing a parking space. Then I had to buy the parking tickets for overnight parking at the train ticket booth. On top of that, most hotels will be able to change currency and give you a descent rate. Well, at the Wren, they were blatantly ripping you off! The rate if exchange was ridiculous, no, insulting! Who in their right mind would agree to such outrageous rates! For a first-rate hotel, we were not treated with first-rate service. £97GBP per night for a double room is not worth it!
