Another 5 stars for my favourite spot in Wigan. I’d had a lousy start to my day with no hot water in my new flat so I took a trip to Wigan to indulge in some family time and a roast — it’s the only cure to the no hot water blues — AND was treated to lunch at Stables. I still love how tucked away this place is, the hustle and bustle of the Christmas masses at the Grand Arcade were only moments away yet inside it felt calm and stress free. The waiting staff are lovely, eager to help, and always seem to get their timings right for giving menus/taking drinks orders/checking up/clearing plates etc. One table near us seemed to have a delay in their meal but the management were super speedy to attend to them, chatting away and diffusing the situation perfectly. My steak baguette was absolutely divine; soft white bread, perfectly pink steak just as I ordered, and delicious chips. These chips are really worth a shout as they are so crispy on the outside but all fluffy inside and always come with some crispy bits hidden away beneath the pile, my absolute favourite. What more could you want? The boyf’s ham&mushroom croque looked lovely — they have great presentation here, clean and simple, which is the cherry on the top of the great taste! I’d hate to just revisit somewhere and always give it 5 stars but allow it. It’s happening.
