The Coach House really stood out in my mind after my recent trip to Ulverston — not so much for the food, but the concept behind the place. Situated next to a sort of walled allotment, it’s all very much ‘grow your own,’ and you can even buy potted herbs and vegetables from a table(complete with honesty box) from outside the café. Inside there is plenty of seating and walls adorned with art from local artists which is available to buy. The menu is fairly simple — jacket potatoes, sandwiches,(a rather impressive looking) afternoon tea. I opted for a pesto and roasted vegetable panini with a portion of fries. The panini itself was tasty, though not bursting with flavour, and the fries a little greasy. For a few pounds it was a tasty lunch that hit the spot and kept me going until dinner. A great place if you’re in the area and need a quick bite, especially those with children. Very family friendly.
