Turpins a warm and welcoming restaurant/bar in Twycross. The interior is well organised with the restaurant separate to the bar area, which includes lounge seats and is incredibly comfortable. I went here with my brother and best friend for a Sunday lunch. While the restaurant does not do a standard Sunday lunch, we were still happy to sample from the menu. For a starter, we all shared the camembert wrapped in a puff pastry(£11). It was spectacularly cheesy and came with enough bread for the three of us. For a main, I had the veggie Wellington(£14) that included cheese, spinach and mushroom. There was a side salad of feta, cucumber, tomato and onion which was the perfect accompaniment to the hot Wellington. For my desert I had the chocolate banoffee pie. Banoffe pie is my favourite desert but I’d never tried one with chocolate so it was a must for me! It was just the right amount of chocolate, toffee and bananas and was beautifully served. We had a bottle of Spanish red with the meal(£19) but quickly moved to cocktails afterwards(made by an expert) and we sampled quite a few! Between us we must have tried about 20. The ‘Stand and Deliver’ was particularly nice and the ‘Strawberries and Dreams’ was made with proper fresh strawberries and was sweet, even though it contained a whole egg. The ‘Godfather’ contains an ice ball so that is worth checking out. The service was attentive and there was even table service in the lounge area. The prices are average for an establishment like this and we did end up spending about double on drinks than we did on the meal, but we did like the cocktails. The prices for cocktails vary but the top shelf spirits do include Ron Zacapa 23YO rum so it has my vote!
