Scream if you want the flames to go higher. You can’t doubt the freshness of your quickly prepared noodles — you see ingredients torched before your very eyes. Put down that flyer about a circus you won’t go to and watch the show. Your eyebrows will be quite safe. The ordering is as quick as the prep, the ‘wok’ side of the menu(noodles and rice dishes) divided into three stages: noodle type, filling(chicken, beef, prawn etc) and spice, in escalating degrees of heat. Each of these ingredients within each ‘stage’ has its own corresponding number; perfect if you’re too hungry to talk properly. As for the ‘chop’ component of It all, you pick your ingredients for a wrap, with extras such as duck rolls or Thai fishcakes available to supplement your folded tortilla if it won’t touch the sides. The price isn’t too shabby either. You can expect to put chilli and more on your tongue for around a fiver — a nice alternative to pizzas and burgers, with a sense your lunch hasn’t been lying around since breakfast.

Selling a unique selection of both notorious and seldom known East Asian dishes at remarkably low prices, this offbeat local takeaway is definitely worth checking out. Chop & Wok’s menu ranges from stir fry wok dishes and Japanese ramen noodles, to various wraps, soups and Chinese appetisers. Various offers are available both in store and on Chop & Wok’s website and a 10% discount is offered to students. On my visit, I went for a £4.90 lunchtime meal deal, which included a wrap or salad of my choice, prawn crackers and a drink. The char-grilled beef in my Thai-style wrap was delicious and I most certainly wouldn’t hesitate to visit Chop & Wok again. The staff were polite, the service was rapid and the prices were brilliant!
