I went out looking for a pub to eat in on a Saturday night. Unfortunately every other bar was absolutely packed on the high street so I had a look inside this one. It was completely empty, apart from two little kids running around in batman costumes. The owner and his wife were laughing. This place seemed like a hangout for their family, not a business. I asked if they had a food menu and one of the bar staff said he didn’t know and got the owner to point to the board which had about four meals on it. I thanked them for their time and just got a take away instead. Having worked in this industry for a long time, it really felt like the owner didn’t care if that place succeeded or not. Little children shouldn’t be running around a pub on a Saturday night, the barstaff should know if they serve food, and more of an effort should be made. They miss out on so much business in Surbiton because anyone who gives this place a chance immediately feels alienated. I have since asked my house mate if he’d been there and he said he walked in then straight back out for the same reasons! The LEAST I would have done if I owned a pub and the one person who came in on Saturday night asking if they serve food is say Yes, have a seat sir. I will come and take your order. First impressions count for a lot and this place failed miserably

A bit of a strange place. Pricey by Surbiton standards, gets full of people dressed up as if they’re going clubbing, and yet somehow I always liked it. Come to think of it, the late licence it had when they were still quite rare probably helped.
