The Old Lodge is absolutely beautiful, it’s surrounded by lush green fields, home not only to the pub but lots and lots of cows, grazing enjoying the lovely view. We visited with a group of friends for Sunday lunch and had a table in the bar area, dogs are also welcome in the bar, we were dog sitting and little Henry was made very welcome. We all opted for 2 – 3 course, I had the pork cheek terrine served with small salad, bread and some pickles, it was nice but I wasn’t blown away but it. I did also try some of the game pâté and then had some major food envy, this was delicious. For my main course I had the Roast beef, the best bit for me, the meat was tender and really tasty, the Yorkshire pudding was pretty good as well. Now the veg was a bit under cooked for my liking, I completely understand some people like their veg with a bit of crunch but this was not for me. The gravy on the other hand was lovely and perhaps so lovely they didn’t want to give it away, each meal had just a drizzle on and we had to ask for more, lots more! I think at one point we had 8(very small) jugs on the table. For coffee dessert I opted for a mini dessert with coffee for £4.95, I had the chocolate truffles with an Espresso, it was the perfect end to the meal. The staff were really friendly and there was a nice atmosphere, I’ll hopefully visit again and make sure we have plenty of time for an after dinner stroll.

We came up here last Sunday for bit of roast action. Located slap bang in the middle of Minchinhampton common this place has very lovely setting. Ideal for a post roast stroll. As we were a bedraggled group we were quickly ushered to our pre booked table, where I began ogle the menu. I opted for the pâté to start and a rare roast beef. We also decided to share a risotto, not sure why but it turned out to be a great idea ! The pâté was delicious and with just the right amount of bread. And just when I thought this can’t get any better, the beef arrived ! Pink and tasty just how I like it. As I pulled apart my beef slabs and nibbled on my parsnip I thought«this is the best gravy I’ve ever had ! «By then the rest of the party had demanded a further four boats of the stuff. We literally ended up drinking it, it was that good. I should also mention that the pork looked excellent. And that the Old Lodge say that they hand rear they’re own piggies for slaughter field to fork style. The only thing that stops me from giving this a five is the price at eighty quid per couple this was no cheap Sunday outing.

Not eaten out here in the evening but the lunchtime food is pretty good, and they have a fine selection of real ales too. In fine weather their garden is a great place to sit and eat but bring something warm to wear as when it’s windy it can get cold on top of the common.
