Had been here before refurb and found it a good traditional pub. Not so now. It’s cold in the bar and side rooms. The fact that many people are sitting in coats didn’t inspire staff to light the fires. Staff chatting behind the bar to each other instead of serving. No sandwiches on because delivery’s late so everything’s frozen! Didn’t like bar staff putting lemon in drinks with his fingers. It just wasn’t very good.

Me and my girlfriend went for a meal on the 6th August 2011. I can safely say we won’t be returning. We sat at table 29 which was quite a nice table. We looked at the menu, and within 5 minutes were asked if we were ready to order. It was as if they were in a rush to get rid of us, and accomodate someone else. I had the trio of pies, which was awful. I don’t think the microwave had been used for long enough. There was little filling, and there was certainly no merlot in the one pie! The chips were warm not hot, and as for the carrots, well, the chef must have blind. They we chopped up really thick! My girlfriend had the 8oz steak, which was warm not hot, and her chips were even worse. The ‘grilled’ tomato was not grilled, and the mushroom was stone cold! In hindsight we should have complained but hopefully writing this review will help, especially as my girlfriend has been constantly visiting the toilet since! We did have a pudding(rocky road pudding), and again this disappointed. No nuts on the pudding as stated, and was just boring ice-cream with a few chocolate brownies plonked on top. If i was you I’d go to the Bell in Kingswinford or the Bell in Trysull. We have never had a bad meal!

If you haven’t been you should go to the Whittington, apart from the incredible old building the staff are friendly and helpful and I’ve yet to find anything to complain about the food, in fact as has been mentioned the pub grub aspect does have some slight differences to the standard fayre and the food is superbly seasoned and if mc9ag didn’t think the starters were worth the money maybe they should have gone to McD’s I believe they sell cheap food. Having got that off my chest I was surprised that the Whittington can serve dishes of such a high quality for the price. I have had much worse from pubs who charge much more. While it isn’t Michelin star quality in terms of presentation, table settings and so on the food would compete favourably on the flavour front and they do do a nice pint of ale too all at very reasonable prices. If you want to have a private party or a wedding reception they have rooms which accommodate anything from 4 or 5 to an annexe for larger parties so all in all you should definitely try this place out. Go on you know it makes sense, you owe it to yourself.

We visited with friends and had a horrible experience. The starters were boring and not worth the money. I expected much better from such a nice looking building. We didn’t want to wait for the mains and was told the kitchen ‘couldn’t cope’. I think they should invest in more microwaves.

This is a 14th century manor house on the A449 to Kidderminster. Lots of character. Furnished in period style. A favourite for wedding receptions. I like their cider!

As with most middle class pubs nowadays The Whittington offers food. That being said, it has a proper restaurant section with ample seating within this 17th century building. The menu is your standard pub favourites and nothing different from many local bistro pubs. But all in all the food was well seasoned, well prepared and decent prices. The service was jolly and quite good. I can’t comment on the pub section as I have yet to try it, but it looked like your usual country pub. I would recommend it for a nice family pub meal and have no qualms with the venue. I gave it overall 3 stars as it didn’t blow me away and was very similar to all bistro pubs all over the the UK.
