Really really enjoyed popping into this super cool and super chilled coffee shop in Stockport. A really nice setting with you guessed it, a cycling theme — their flat whites and lattes really hit the spot and were cheaper than city centre prices! Really friendly staff, great tunes and an ambience making it perfect for any time of the day — I look forward to going back to try their food. *they also do evening supper clubs with the excellent Nasi Lemak and whiskey tastings so keep an eye on them for more details.

I needed to nip into stockport today to buy my husband a food processor(always marry a man that cooks!) and thought this would be the perfect excuse to nip into Tandem… whom i’d being meaning to visit for a while. Its slightly hidden away, bit higher up the street from Robinsons and a bit lower down than Richer sounds… so isn’t likely to pick up passing trade as easily, but i think its worth the 2 minute walk off the main highstreet. Spotlessly clean and with delightfully lovely staff it was a real pleasure visiting Tandem today. I had red pepper and houmous bagel for just £2 — nicely priced and makes working from a coffee shop more affordable and therefore something i can do more often. Wi-Fi is free and streamed the programme i was watching without any glitches… so another tick for working from there. And a final tick for providing a quiet and pleasant atmosphere. My favourite thing though… they are one of the only coffee shops that have delivered a hot chocolate to absolute perfection. Hot, not too much foam, not too thick, but still absolutely chocolately(and with teeny marshmallows). I am so impressed(as you wouldn’t believe how many people seem to get this wrong). when i asked about it she said it takes a little longer than normal to make as they have to melt the limini drops slowly(that’s the chocolate) and whisk it, but in my opinion it is well worth the wait. I will definitely definitely be back and look forward to trying their panini’s.

Stockport is home to quite a few hidden gems, at least to most people not from the town, but look past the chains and you’ll find plenty of great little retailers. One such place is Tandem Coffee House, situated just near Robinsons Brewery & Richer Sounds on one of the quaint little steep streets is a cycle-obsessed coffee shop that is definitely worth a visit, and you don’t need to ride on a push-rod to appreciate Tandem’s charms. I stopped in for a coffee on a day off work, sketching and reading a book to the excellent backing music of a Northern Soul compilation album, the flat white was a pretty decent example, definitely better than expected and probably the best in the town — a bargain at £2 too! As I carried on minding my own business a member of staff came over to ask if I’d like another coffee free of charge — a lovely gesture, which I didn’t take them up on, but with hospitality like that I’ll definitely be making another visit. Tandem also food, which I didn’t try on my first visit, the selection of sandwiches and daily soups sound like they’re worth investigating further, all at reasonable prices — their Twitter feed updates you with what’s on special today. If you’re in Stockport and have a hankering for a brew, please please please avoid the usual places like Costa & Starbucks and try Tandem Coffee House instead, you won’t regret it.
