Neptune Fish Restaurant

Take away chips were very nice.
A little oily for liking but nice all the same.
Staff seemed fairly happy.
Take away prices were good considering it was along the seafront.
Reason for 4 and not 5 star is:
We got told 4 minutes to wait for the chips. That in itself seemed reasonable to me. I said «Sure, we’ll wait».
The people after me were told 10 minutes to wait, the young lady serving made them sound like they were mad for waiting.
The next couple were told «Chips will be 20 minutes, maybe you should try somewhere else». Nothing like turning work away… Lol.

Visited today. Large chips £2.30 came in a small cone. I challenged the size and was told that they were only allowed to put in a tray if the customer asked (complained). The size was a bit better but they were largely cold.
Give a miss try the Golden M instead! 1 star is generous.

Arriving from London by bike I was dreaming for 43 miles of some tasty sausage and chips by the sea.
We strolled in about 2:30pm to a half empty restaurant and the first question was ‘eat in or take away?’
«Hmmm, I think we’ll take away» we said.
«Then go outside and go to the take away window» we were told.
Outside…
«Hi, one sausage and chips and one fish and chips please»
«I’m sorry we don’t do fish and chips, we only do cod and chips». And no, she was not joking.
It was all fine, the chips were nice enough. I didn’t taste the fish, whoops sorry COD, but was told it was nothing special.

This is for me & my family the GO TO fish & chip shop when we visit Southend’s Peter Pan Adventure Island. The Restaurant has large seating area, its clean, service is quick, and the food is very tasty. The cod is as it should be and the chips thick crispy and fluffy inside hmmmm. The food taste fresh and always consistently good (we have been atleast 15 times!!!). HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.
ps. Even the desert is mind blowing!!!

I’m not sure how old the photos on this site are but it definitely doesn’t look that glamorous anymore. Like a lot of Southend, Neptunes has come to look tired and run-​down. We ordered from the takeaway (like hell am I paying a few extra quid to sit and eat inside!). A quarter of the bag of chips were inedible as they were so greasy and our fish wasn’t so much freshly caught as freshly defrosted. For a seafront chip shop, the prices weren’t too bad but what we paid certainly warranted better quality food in my opinion. Average at best.

There’s nothing I like more than a stroll down the seafront with a bag of chips!
One fresh bright Sunday my Husband and I went to southend and chose Netunes for our eagerly anticipated bag of chips.
It looked clean and bright and the staff friendly.
We had to wait a few minutes as they were frying a fresh batch of chips and we were presented with cones full to the brim of fresh fat yummy chips which we really enjoyed as we walked along — until we got past the top layer.
Underneath were old, cold greasy leftover chips. Nice.
What a miserly mean thing to do, it could only have saved them a few pence but really spoiled a nice day and a simple pleasure.
Pathetic, don’t bother going there and if you do make sure you eat the top layer of chips before walking off to make sure they’re not palming you off with slops too.
It’s people like them that give Essex a bad name.
