So close! I wanted to love this place. Sitting in a big conservatory by the sea with lovely smelling food, wonderful staff and great friendly atmosphere! The fish is lovely. We had some calamari which was unlike any calamari we’d ever had before– like chunky chips with a fine breadcrumb and so so soft and juicy! I had a grilled sea bass– which had been kept simple, lovely crispy skin– well seasoned and fall off the bone. My boyfriend had salmon which was fine. The hitch? Some trendy, modern and rather lavish twists seem to sit in an otherwise traditional seaside menu. This would be fine– if they were executed well. The potato fondants simply weren’t fondants– soggy slightly burned roast/fried potatoes that were a little greasy and not soft and buttery. For desert– chocolate brownie with hot fudge sauce– the brownie was too soft any stodgy with no crisp and the sauce was barely tepid. The crème brûlée was a disaster, slightly separated eggy mess with barely a shell. Some finer points and extras were missing too; the vegetables needed a little seasoning(easily enough fixed at the table) and the ice cream tasted more ice than cream! My advice? Definitely go here, but KEEPITSIMPLE! Enjoy a traditional fish and chips, or a nice grilled fish– steer clear of fondants, purées and dauphinois and eat like a British seaside champion!

Great choice of fresh fish and Moules are to die for. Nice view of the sea. A few steps to go up but there is a ramp to the left and then you can enter from the front terrace. Staff are very good. The menu has a good selection of fish starters and main courses. All food is cooked fresh and is well presented. The conservatory to the front gives the best view out towards the sea front Good choice if beers and wine. Resteraunt takes credit cards

This is as good as it gets. Portions are large — go for a small or medium if you have a big appetite. All fish is fresh and tasty. I think it comes from sustainable sources — if not. blame the EU not the fishermen! Prices are very fair Parking is reasonable except on hot weekends due to the pier and other attractions.

This is very nice place with great views. Waitresses are very good and friendly. Shame that food is not up to scratch. Fish was terrible, very bitter and over cooked. Fries are made from low quality potatoes. For a premium price and from sea side restaurant I was expecting much more then that. My cheap London fish and chips shop delivers much better food.

I really really really wanted to love this place. Just arriving to town, this place was the place to go according to our lovely host Ian and The Pier View B&B and of course on Unilocal. Hungry and desperate for a proper, seaside fresh bit of battered fish and chips we wandered down there. We were told it was a very popular place with the locals as well and being a bank holiday it would be best to book for the eve. We walked in at about 3pm and it was still very busy from the post lunch trade, but we were managed to get seated. The place looked a bit grubby, but seeing the food fly past us and smelling the smells I just didn’t care. The service was very very slow. There was a very miserable looking manager about who really didn’t make any eye contact. The poor wait staff were all here and there and again, really made no eye contact or small talk. When the food came out safe to say we were soo very hungry, The chips were perfection. Crispy on the outside, fluffy on the inside, hot and tasty. As we were treating ourselves, the Mrs had the most expensive thing on the menu, the Halibut, and I had a platter of battered plaice, calamari and scampi. The Halibut was a very small portion for the price but was apparently very nice. As for my platter, it was all a bit meh. Scampi was almost tasteless but the plaice was quite nice. Overall it was OK. I think it’s just the service that really let it down, such a big build up for a meh meal. Maybe just stick with the fish and chips as that looked awesome.

My partner and I went to Fishermans Wharf for our anniversary meal. We found it whilst looking on GoogleMaps for a decent seafood restaurant. It seems as though it is a popular romantic meal spot for locals, with lots of couples there in their finery! But we still fitted in whilst dressed as complete tourists. They were extremely busy, so I recommend calling in advance to reserve a table. We were added to the list and had to come back in an hour for our table. It doesn’t look like much from the outside, but the food is truly excellent. It ticked all our what-to-eat-at-the-seaside-boxes. I had lemon sole with baked potato and mixed greens — all lovely — and my partner had the mussels(huge!) with a side of fries. Our waitress was very attentive and was fine with our American-style requests. Everything was wonderful, and we left wishing we could return to there again. The dessert menu looked to die for — I was hankering after the Summer Pudding, however the mains were so large that we were defeated! But we will return!!!

Grossly expensvive to the point it cost an average of £13 per head for fish and chips for a family of 5(three kids!). Having lots of waiters standing around in uniform, serving tomato and tartare sauce in chrome pots and selling bottles of ultra expensive wine doesn’t make up for below average food. I would seriously question the validity and integrity of the some of the five star reviews for this place. Service was average, things missed from the order, orders slightly incorrect, nothing major, but not what you expect for silver service style fish and chips(surely thats a bit of a contradiction?). Guided by these reviews we went in despite the somewhat shocking price at £10.50 per head for fish and chips(there own website quotes much less, trading standards for double advertising??). Portion sizes that are small at best, seriously undercooked chips. Frankly they were terrible, limp, undercooked, small amount, really uninspiring,(not entirely sure how as we were only the third/fourth table and there was a good 3 – 4 people in the kitchen). The fish was ok, at best, cooked well, but quite bony(and it does warn you in the menu, for the price i would have expected decent fillets not a bone minefield) and still retained skin which is fine if you dont mind. Personally i would rather have paid half the money elsewhere on the seafront and taken a chance, the food could hardly have been smaller or worse and at least i wouldn’t have felt like id eaten at dick turpins dinner table.

We drove over 110miles to Southend today collect a purchase my wife had made online. We enquired about a good fish restaurant and we were directed to Fisherman’s Wharf. As two BIG goodies we were extremely pleased with the quality of the food. I had crab bisque and fish pie whilst my wife had mushrooms stuffed with gorgonzola followed by fillet of red mullet. We then shared a sticky toffee pudding. Absolutely great food and upon enquiry discovered that it’s all home made and the comment from my wife was that it’s the best sticky toffee pudding she’s ever had. Suffice to say that despite live in Ascot, Berkshire, we will definitely drive there again just to eat here. BTW, the service was good and the prices are very reasonable indeed. Alex in Ascot

We went here after completing the London To Southend Bike Ride. Great menu and wine selection served by friendly staff, if ever in Southend give them a try, would certainly be returning next time we are in the Essex Riviera !!!

We had to queue for ten minutes to get into this restaurant and were wondering if it was worth it. The kids were happily deposited in the fun fair so we decided to sit out in the sun and have lunch. This was such a fantastic place to eat. We sat out on the terrace which had the most fantastic views; it felt like we were on holiday. The food was plentiful and delicious. We had a bottle of chilled bubbly and the most divine bowl of mussels. I would recommend this place to anybody. Well worth a trip to the coast for lunch here. Parking is very easy too.

This restaurant has amazing views: it might look like a rather dull box, but that’s because it’s all windows and terraces, meaning every table overlooks the sea. You may have to queue for a table, but once you’re seated above the bright lights of the seafront and the mile-and-a-third-long pier, it will seem worthwhile. Service is really friendly: I ate here on my own, which sometimes brings out the worst in restaurants. No such problems here, I got a good table and was treated really well all evening. The menu is extensive, and unsurprisingly emphasises seafood. Main course fish comes with a good choice of accompaniments, from seaside favourites like chips and onion rings to lighter, healthier alternatives.(Alright, I went for the chips) My only criticism is that the fish, and my starter of mussels, were cooked a little more than I like — but not unpleasantly so. The mussels came with plenty of bread and hand wipes, the main course was generous and the mackerel really good. Prices are reasonable, making this restaurant a good choice for a more sophisticated take on seafront fish suppers.

Located at the top of the seafront cliffs, this is a fantastic little restaurant. It does get very busy and I’ve known the queue for a table to stretch halfway down the huge flight of stairs to the restaurant’s entrance, so booking is advisable. The restaurant is nothing special, and you would be forgiven for thinking that it is nothing more than a typical seaside fish and chip bar. There is a small indoor dining area and a wrap-around outdoor patio with plastic tables & chairs with heaters The menu will surprise you though. They have all the favourites like cod, scampi and plaice with chips, but also offer turbot, sea bass, dover sole, halibut and lobster. The latter was a little well grilled for my liking on my last visit but this was an aberration rather than the norm. Another way they set themselves apart from your average chippie is that they are licensed so you can enjoy a little glass of something with your cod and chips.
